Lambros Masterpiece Cue, used almost mint

I purchased this cue off of ebay a couple of weeks ago. The cue is flawless, as close to mint as a used cue comes. It is a Lambros Masterpiece cue. It's really sharp looking in person.

After a couple of nights playing with it, I decided it is a bit heavy for my taste (19.7 oz). I discussed with Mike and there is no practical way to bring the weight down, so I'm going to pass the cue onto someone that will get better use of it than I. I am asking the price I have invested: $450 + $10 s/h.

Purple heart and Ebony. Here is the description from the original ebay listing:

A wrapless Masterpiece Cue from the shop of Mike Lambros. This is one of the new line of cues that Mike Lambros has introduced to give people the opportunity to play with a Lambros precision crafted cue without the high cost. This cue hits like a top quality cue should. I have only used this cue 3 times, and it is in excellent condition. No dings, scuffs or scratches on it. The joint is 3/8 x 10 piloted wood to wood, butt weight is 16 oz., the shaft is 3.7 oz., and the shaft is 13mm.

If you are interested send me a PM. Otherwise back on the auction block it goes. Thanks for looking.

It's not an Ultra joint.

Ok, I was under the assumption it was not the Ultra Joint 2 (?), but the version before that. It is what you see in the photos. [edit] I edited that text out of the description to avoid any confusion.

I do not understand why people get this ultra joint thing in their head? If its #1 or #2? Do you think if its ultra joint #2 you will then play lights out pool? I had a Lambros and it played great. Would not matter which joint it had, has nothing to do with it in my opinion. Nice price on this cue. Good luck.

I tend to agree. Lambros makes great playing cues, period. When Joint #3, #4... come out, are we selling off our inferior cues for new ones? :)

I fully agree. Mike made a heck of a lot of really super playing cues even before he ever developed the ultra-joint cues. A quality cue is a quality cue.

These Masterpiece cues are very nice cues, built in Mike's shop, under his supervision, using his tools, but not by Mike himself...they are not Lambros custom cues by Mike Lambros. I had several of these cues when they first came out. They are great Lambros "shop" cues, and a great bang for the buck.

so who did these? and do these cues qualified to be called Lambros if he did not make them himself?

All cues that come out of Lambros's shop are Lambros cues. Mike and Donny jointly make cues as a team. Donny is "GIFTED" as a cue maker as well, fyi.

This is a non-ultra joint Lambros cue... end of story, people.

The only reason I replied that the cue is not an Ultra joint is because Mikes regular flat faced early cues do not fetch the prices that Ultra jointed cues do. I've owned cues with all of Mikes joints and they all played very well. I actually preferred an early piloted non ultra jointed sneaky Mike made over the Ultra joint. I was in no way shape or form bashing the OP's sale.

Also, I believe these "masterpiece" cues were made before Donny worked with Mike by a prior apprentice. That's how they were originally marketed anyway.

It's a nice cue and I think the seller has it priced very fair.

Not being an a$$ on this, but they are not called "Lambros Custom Cues", nor are they called or marked, or marketed as "Lambros Custom Cues" cues. They are called Masterpiece Cues (they have their own, individualized logo), from the shop of Mike Lambros, much as you have Carmeli "shop" cues, McDaniel "shop" cues, and others.

These cues were built in Mike's shop as a quality cue at an affordable price. They were built by employees of the shop, under Mike's supervision. They were designed as a quasi-production series of cue. Very few of them were ever completed before the project was nixed by Mike Lambros. They are a very good cue...nice quality, affordably priced.

One of the reasons that production ended on these cues was the fact that they began to become confused as "Lambros Custom Cues"....they are not. They are Masterpiece Cues.

I had several of these cues when they were first released...they are nice cues. The one listed here by the OP is a very nice example at a super price.

Call or email Mike Lambros for further clarification.....

Joe, thanks a lot for the info.

Ok! hopefully for the last time. The masterpiece cues were made in my shop. They were built by my apprentice for training. I completed the builds. They all have piloted flat faced joints. They are no longer made because of confusion that they are a lower priced version of my ultra jointed cues. They play very good for the money, but they are in no way supose to be my entry cues. They roughly cost 30% of my entry level cues. Now whether they are a Lambros cue or not. Of course they are!!! I consider them mine and treat them as such.
