Mike, this kid it the real deal. And he's how old? 12, 13? I hope he sticks with it. Along with Austin Murphy, we have at least two blossoming champions. There's hope for the future of American pool.

Jay, you are right. Landon is the real deal. Landon is age 12. I have been fortunate enough to have been able to see Landon play ever since he was about 7 and he has come a long way. Landon is the epitome of profesionalism. He is always well dressed. He has perfect manners and he is a real pleaure to talk with. This kid and others like him have a very good chance of changing the image of our sport for the better. My hats off to there Teachers for helping to guide them in the right direction.

And to you Mike, for providing an outlet for them to develop their talent. The same goes to all the unsung heros who promote regional tours. I know it's a labor of love. NO ONE is getting rich putting on pool tournaments. At best, it's a living.

Nice job by Landon!

Who else is left in the event?

Events in Athens always interest me as I used to live there. I really
like The Brass Rail and when I was around there was always action.

There was action last night. Larry Nevel gave Bruce the 8 playing 10-ball for around 3500. Ten ahead and they played for about 5 hours. Bruce made it to 6 ahead and that was the most anyone got. When they made them quit Larry was up 2 games. They might play again today. I had a little of Bruce and in my opinion if Bruce plays well then Larry has no chance. If Bruce plays so-so then it is a close game.

Think I'll agree with you

Yeah, Landon sh-t out the other six games. The only joke on here is you!

Even on a short race to 7, you still have to play a little to beat someone like Earl. You have to take command of the match every single time you come to the table. Missing 1 ball in a set, he must have been hitting them pretty good. I've seen Landon play a couple of times at DCC and got to sit and chat with him when he was 10. His Dad had done an incredible job with him. And I could tell he just loves the game. Unless something happens to make him lose interest, he will be a Great Great player. At 10, I was watching him run out on the TV table. very nice job Landon. And Kudo's to earl for showing him respect.

big well done to landon and he's an amazing and exciting prospect. even if it does depress me seeing a 12 year old play better than i probably ever will!

but i do agree about the short races. why should pool be different to any other sport and have coin flip races to seven? any top player playing well in stroke wins the first three or four and then perhaps trades a couple of games and it's over. belittles the game of pool short races do i think.

but anyway, main point is congrats to landon and also good to hear earl may be finding some form again. that to me is the exciting prospect!!

btw is there any video anywhere of landon playing? apart from that news report i've seen on him i think.

yeah yeah ..but if Earl was raking balls like it has been reported, then that does change somethings..I guess at the end of the day.. a W is a W.. and congrats to Landon!!!

Im not sure how much BB has been playing lately but if he plays well he IMO is a big favorite witht he 8 playing Nevel. IF not then like you said --
it going to be close.
10 ball takes the big break away from Bruce but in a long ahead set he might be able to figure it out.

I have to chime in and give a big CONGRADS to Landon. This young man is first class. I was at the Shuffet home this past Tuesday and Weds. Landon puts in more practice time than anyone I know. Not just banging balls around or just playing. He has practice drills and shots that is showing up in his play. Maybe for now some posters will relay him as the underdog and consider his wins a upset. I bet that won't last much longer. Trust me this kid is the real deal. He can play!!

Yep, he didn't allow Landon to experience the good feeling and confidence boost of running those balls. On the other hand, he knows how it feels to see those balls going down while he's sitting down.

On the other hand, you have a 5 time U.S. Open 9 BALL Champion, raking the balls, conceding the game to you.

That should make Landon feel like he is a champion, too. I hope that is the way he perceives it.

It is at THE VERY LEAST one living legendary CHAMPION'S recognition of another TOP PLAYER'S (AND soon to be CHAMPION) ability.

I would hope his dad is telling him exactly this.

Congrats to Landon! Definitely an up and comer and I am really looking forward to seeing what the future has in store for him...or him for it!

You people put way too much stock in a race to 7. I think the other post on here was not suggesting making every tourney a race to 21. I think he meant it is a little dumb to parade around and brag on how good you play when you beat a champion in a race to 7. Anyone, and I mean anyone can beat anyone else in a race to 7, PERIOD. Therefore to post 30 or 40 posts about a race to 7 is ridiculous.

USA had a bright future with both Landon, and Austin coming on strong!

I think perhaps it was meant to be a congrats to Landon Shuffet. Not the obvious that you have stated. Unfortunately like most threads they seem to go off course.

Earl raking the balls is, imo, nothing more than an attempt to shark the kid. Didn't work. Landon apparently stayed cool and continued to play well. Landon can put it in the bank.... he beat Earl Strickland. Period.

Landon won several matches against good players to finish high in the event. I know when a young player is showing real promise, and this is one of those times.

Landon, Brandon, Schmandon. What's the difference. Hey Rick, can I buy you another beer?

Hey Frankncali and corvette, I really like BBs end if he plays within two balls o top gear on that one. Let me know if there is anything like that Mon. or Tues, as myself and friend/sponsor might have to make an appearance if anything good is goin down. Take it easy-Matt PS- Frank, dont you ever read your pms?lol.

Congratulations Landon

Way to go Landon!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Had Landon at my my house a couple of weeks ago. He played practice sets against the best player in my area (Gary Gentry) We had a lot of fun.

Several points about Landon. He is courteous and his attitude is excellent. Also, he has one thing you cannot teach. For a twelve year old, he has charisma. My wife even commented on his kind and humerous personality. This wasn't a show. You can definitely tell it just comes natural. No doubt his dad does a great job keeping him grounded.

I am to be at their house this coming Thursday. I am going through an all day teaching session with his dad Stan and then that evening Landon and I am suppose to play about five practice sets. After reading how he is doing at this tournament I am not sure that may be a good idea. :D

What a bright future Landon has and better yet what a good person he is.
