It's difficult to me to pick a favorite in this match-up. :)

Either one of these players is capable of winning, IMHO, and each one has their own distinctive pool traits.

I thought I'd add a picture to the thread, taken by Poolpics by Hoppe (Diana Hoppe), of Johnny Archer at the DCC! I like the way he's looks sitting on the sideline in this pic. Kind of like the grin of Mona Lisa!:D

He must have been up in that match. :)

archer vs nevel

I agree this could be a great match. But I think an important aspect of this challenge is the ground rules.

I know emotions can get cranked up a little high. But at the last US Open, I watched Larry Nevel display some of the worst behavior I have seen in a professionsal match. Against a gentleman like Allen Hopkins, he was acting like a spoiled 12 year old.

If Larry is again allowed to throw tantrums, it intimadates the other player and gives a distinctive advantage to the one throwing the tantrums.

If solid refs and rules are in place, I like Archer. If not, I like Nevel.

I am only saying this so someone in Nevel's camp can give him a heads up that his actions do not go unnoticed. There is no place for whining and bad behavior in professional pool. I realize playrs get bad rolls and bad moods - but act like a professional if you want to be treated like a professional.

It gives the industry a bad name and the player can get a bed reputation. And Nevel has more talent and ability than almost anyone out there. He has less to throw tantrums about than the average player.

Archer will also need to keep his temper in check. At the Generation Pool event Johnny had a few angry outbursts (stick slamming/slinging) and sharking episodes that resulted in warnings from officials. If both players can keep their behaviors in check, this should be a great match.

So far, I have 2 bets down taking Larry and betting $50 to win $75. Anyone else interested? Please let me know. Thanks.

I guess I will take this bet. respond in this thread and pm as well to confirm.

This should be an eye opener for Larry.

I was skeptical about all comments from pros that dont want to gamble with Larry cause of his attitude. I guess this kinda validates the claims.

When someone as respected and powerful in the pool world says you act like a spoiled 12 year old, you need to shape up.

I think both of these guys are "emotional" players, for a lack of a better word ;)
They are perfectionists!! I have seen both get a little out of line!
It will be an interesting match!
Wonder who will get "emotional" first?

I agree with this. Everyone is worried about Larry getting shaken up and blowing up, I have seen Johnny get rattled quite a few times as well. Gonna be a great match either way though. JMO.

hopefully there will be a shot clock or johnny will bore larry to sleep.

I think Johnny definitely plays better when theres a shot clock around. It forces him to play with a consistent rythym. My bet is definitely with Johnny if theres a 45 second shot clock around.
