I saw some thread on here about beating the double kiss when banking. One thing said if you can shoot the cueball in the corner pocket past the ball you are banking there is no double kiss. I really never knew that. So in the last week I've just become a better player. This would and would've come in very handy on some push outs that were given to me.

I wonder what else I don't know about banking and double kisses etc.

And some people say that all the time spent on AZ is just wasted.:wink:

Tom Rossman covers the kiss and a lot of other good stuff in the monk 202 series.
 
I learned this from Grady's dvds, also, Jimmy Reid goes over another method to determine if there is a kiss. He uses the corner or tips of the pockets. I just watched all of Jimmy's dvds and they are great. Tom

Donnie, I know you're already a great player but as you pointed out everyone can learn something new. I'd highly suggest looking into that seminar that Danny D., Grady and Freddy are doing there at the Derby. They all have a lot of little tidbits of info like that that they are, after all these years willing to share for a song! Anyone serious about pool would benefit from the combined knowlege of this team. I've spent quite a bit of time with Danny D and have learned a lot about reading the rack, judging kicks and double kisses. This is a man who beat both Efren and Earl in their primes and about every every top player in the country as well and won major tournaments in 4 decades.
 
Grady taught me in the early 70's, if you can shoot a ball straight in to the pocket it will almost always be a dbl kiss bank.

Grady's video has a similar setup where the balls are not quite frozen. Measure the same way (as the frozen ball method) then subtract 1/2 a diamond. I got to use Bob Jewett's system in a game (awesome feeling) when your opponent thinks he's got you and then you make the 9 ball.

I first saw the "how to beat a kiss" from one of Dr Dave's video (thanks), but I like Grady's method better no measuring involved.
 
Donny, it is nice to see a world caliber player like you come on AZ and mention something you picked up on here. A lot of the Pros would not have the balls to do that. The match of you and Shane, where you narrated Donny Mills on Donny Mills, and was trying to get a little sweater bet, that was a riot. (lol)

Far side pocket flat edge

More specific than not seeing the pocket is not seeing the far side, flat edge, of the pocket drop. If you can't see it, it is a kiss.

That's the way Jack Koehler in his book, Upscale One-Pocket tells it too, at least in reference to cross corner banks.

"If, when aiming to bank the object ball, the cue ball is being aimed at the corner pocket, there will probably be a second kiss."
