leather tip for break cue

odega

Odega leather break/jump tips are the best!
THey are made by the same guy that developed the Samsara tip when he worked at the Samsara shop. They had a falling out a few years ago and now he is becoming the one of the most sought after break tip guys around. I know he just signed a deal with Jacoby for their break cues and has been working with OB for their breakjumps. but they want a huge order in excess of 100,000 tips, he just can't do that many.

Odega's are becoming very popular and everyone should try them.

I personally don't think white diamond tips jump all that good.

the white diamond is a resin type tip, it's super hard like phenolic. holds chalk a lot better, but many people have gluing problems, seems to be hard to get these suckers to stay on some ferrules. they're legal in BCAPL for jump cues, but not for breaking. they don't damage the balls

Thanks for the clarification. After reading your post I checked the rule and the contacting surface must be made of leather. I've edited my post so there is no confusion. ;)

i have a hercules hard tip on my old xbreaker shaft. and love it. its is pleny hard, holds shape( its still rounded and holds chalk after 2 yrs) mor control then the phenolic stuff.

Someone sent me a Tiger Icebreaker and I put it on an old Ernie Martinez J/b.
I don't know if it's the tip, the cue, or the combination, but my break was instantly improved.

I copied this sales bs from Tiger's website.
They're kind of expensive, but definitely high tech

Icebreaker® Phenolic/Leather Cue Tip
Tiger Products challenged itself in creating a jump/break cue tip that makes it easier for the user to execute close - quarters aerial jump shots and execute an iceberg shattering break shot. All of this without sacrificing accurate cue ball control and avoiding the dreaded miscue. Following three years of tireless research and development, we at Tiger Products have created the definitive jump/break cue tip of the future! This hybrid cue tip utilizes an ultra hard laminated leather core, with *leather contact surface, allowing for greater chalk adhesion and the phenolic jacket restricts cue tip expansion upon impact. So, all the power you put in to your stroke transfers immediately and accurately to the cue ball without cause for miscue. The result is: increased break shot speeds and "light as feather" jump shots! Manufactured with the VACULAM™ process, this copyrighted Tiger technology has produced an incredibly powerful tip!
Icebreaker® Cue Tips, power beyond imagination!

So far I have had 2 of the icebreakers... I exploded the first one the 2nd night I had it on my break cue.... I figured I had a defective one so I had a 2nd one put on... The first must have been defective because the 2nd one lasted 3 days before I exploded it as well........

Other than the premature explosion, how did you like the tip?

I actually liked the tip and loved the concept... I keep thinking maybe the batch my 2 came out of was the same batch and I may try another 1 at some point... I had another person tell me that they had had the same problem but it was right around the same time my 2 had blowouts...

Basically what happened was that the shell fractured around the leather core and the leather would stick thru... Looked like a tip hernia LOL....

A hernia isn't bad, I was expecting it to look more like a unabomber attack.

I've been crushing the balls for about a month 4 or 5 times a week, and others like Bruce aka measureman likes to use it as well.
I don't know if it makes a difference, but we trim the tips down very slowly and use a 2-part epoxy instead of Super Glue Gel.
The process is kind of slow, but I haven't seen some of the problems I hear about with various tips.
Also, I did very little shaping on the Icebreaker.

In general I think any real hard tip will break well.
Someone mentioned pressed Lepro's, and I bet those break very well.

As much preference everyone has for their favorite tip, this weekend I tried a bunch of different tips on some older playing cues...all glue-on's..:)
Onyx, pooldawg8's Dawgduds, Talisman soft, Wizard, Triangle, Kamui Black soft, Tiger Dynamite, and they all played great.
Including the original tips still on the old Ernie Martinez cue I'm playing with, and those look like Lepro.
The only thing I am sure of at this point is that I prefer a glue-on...:)

Mezz Break Tip

Hi guys

When it comes down to real leather break tips I can highly recommand the P.I.T. (Pressed Ignot Tip) by Mezz. Helped me breaking and jumping whole cues in the past few years. Excellent product! You can find it on MezzUSA.com for $10.- a piece.

I use a "milk dud" made by Adam Franks, I play and break with one shaft and the other is dedicated to mainly just breaking, although I play with it occasionally, I have 75-100 hours on one tip and about and the other is mainly just breaking, like I said earlier. I have yet to do anything to the tips, they're still exactly at a dime radius.. These works for me!

I agree with rackrunner8ball Odega is the way to go for a break/jump cue.

Now, If you're going with a dedicated break cue and like to put some english on it (I know... that's bad.. or whatever) I've always thought a super pro would be a good tip.

Thanks for the good comments on the ODEGA tip. However, there needs to be some clarification in your post. I never worked for Samsara but I helped them develop their tip. I have no contract with Jacoby, and lastly I have never been in contact with OB cues. Thanks again for the good comments but I needed to clarify some of the information in your post.

where can i order you tips?out of curiousity,i think i will try it.

one of these days im gonna mass produce these things, i havnt had a complaint on one yet

i've been pressing wb tips for awhile too....i agree, they come out great. and cheap to make! i soak mine in mineral spirits first, then put it in a picone tip press cranked real tight in a vise overnight. the sucker will come out hard as a rock. not quite as hard as the samsara, but still breaks and jumps good. holds chalk a little better and has a bit more control. i use them mainly for breaking for more control, but go with the samsara and various others for jumping as they're a little bit harder.
