Yeah we can have sticky nits...

Seriously, some people must think that dealers get 70% off of retail.

Who is going to trade a Searing or a Showman for a Josey Sneaky pete, a Shon R-4 and a tip scuffer? Really?

JV

You had me at tip scuffer!!!!!!!!

Bill,
Nice old McD.. I don't think his remark is really about the market as much as it is that there are some pretty ballsy (no pun intended) low ballers. IMHO if you get a stupidly low offer, there should be a stickey in the for sale section that allows you to post low ball offers so people know what to look out for. :)

JV

My bad i thought he was serious! lol. I just got this last week (can i trade my meucci collection for the szamboti for 10,995 on your site , there is a total of 12 cues 4 are originals and 2 have extra shafts, and they are worth much more than 1000 each but i will trade them and you would only have to put in 500 cash. and i will throw in a 12x 24 dealer case. please respond soon because i will offer it to someone else in 48 hrs! thank you Bo####emx ) sorry if you are a az member but it was entertaining or somone was playing a joke!

Need A Truck

Well, it's your lucky day! I just happen to have a Chevy pickup I value at $150,000 that I'm willing to let go of cheap.

Does it have low miles, get at least 50 miles per gallon, and can I keep the payment under a $100. a month? I just declared bankruptcy so I'll need a real low interest rate. You can call me at home. The number is BR549. Have a great day!

It has less than 8,000 miles, gets 96 mpg, and I would glady accept $50-100 a month.

Problem is, I called your number and the woman who answered said it would cost me $3.95 per minute to talk to you.

Thought for a minute there we had a deal. :p

If this is still available I will take it.
That plunger cue stand put this deal right over the top.
Toilet plunger cue stands are very rare and possibly worth more than the cue.

I swear that you always find the best deals on here. Who ever would have thought that a ''Toilet plunger cue stand'' would be worth more than the cue itself. You need to write a book with all your secret knowledge in it.
I will buy the book. Please send me your paypal info so I can pay fast & get the first signed copy of this book. Its easy money for you, so get started on the book right away.

This thread is kind of funny.....but as a cue maker (fairly new one) this is really depressing....I deal with this on a regular basis....I can only guess how bad the guys who have been doing it awhile feel.....I had someone try to bring me down 50% the other day on a loaded stiched ring brunswick house cue conversion for 150!!! Geezz I'd rather use it as a handcrafted compton custom broom handle than give it away for 75 bucks.

I'm curious.

What is considered low balling?

What is each individual level of tolerance to the amount of haggling?

This is a market place. And at any market place. There is going to be a certain degree of haggling. Actually that is quite and interesting process.

My opinion is. If you are easily offended by offers. Then you should not be selling here! Or you could simply indicate that offers below xxx about of dollars will not be entertain.

When i started out, i use to think a thousand bucks for any cue is ridiculous! I am not going to pay a thousand bucks for a piece of wood!

But over time as you begin to appreciate the value of pool cues and their craftsmanship. The begin to accept their worth.

Often time i feel that low balling could be just a mis-match of expectation between the buyer and the seller.

All markets shift. Sometimes they are in the sellers favor, and sometimes in the buyers.

It's usually the general economy that causes the change, but not always. Often the market simply outran itself; sometimes it's over, or under, supply, sometimes it was nothing but hype to begin with, and sometimes it's just market sentiment and perception.

I bought a antique Persian carpet over thirty years ago. Paid $1,000.00. It ran up to about $15-17,000.00 in about five years. Now....about $2,500.00 if I'm lucky enough to even find a buyer. Reason for the change was that the US had an Iranian embargo on these items which initially drove the price up, then carpets from Iran began to flood the market through England killing the market. There's always a reason.

When, and if, another market shift occurs, the higher quality segment will usually recover first.

Good luck to all you collectors and owners.

J
