linen wraps

Mix up some Woolite with warm water in a bowl. Dampen a towel or clean rag and pat that up and down the wrap. You do not want to soak the linen or it might stretch and sag. Let the linen dry. You may have to clean it again to get all the dirt out. Once clean and dry, rub it with wax paper to restore some shine and smooth out any fuzz.

gambler67, Howdy;

I've got a 70's JW and the wrap has some what I like to refer to as 'patina' signifying it has been
used enough to accumulate the discoloration and worthy of it's place.

i see there are many types of woolite, even some with oxiclean and also in spray form, any recommendations on which type of woolite?

Well, I've never used any but the plain old liquid one that you use in the dishwasher. I would try the OxiClean if I was buying new, I suppose. Spray might be OK as well, as long as you remember not to soak the linen.

Ha, the wrap. It basically roughed it up to the point where it feels terrible to hold.
i think after using you would need to spin it on a lathe with linen press or something that would work like one , like 2 pieces of wood, maybe wax over the wrap area and burnishing

I've cleaned linen with just a damp cotton wash cloth wrapped around the linen and rotated the cue.
Worked pretty good and did fuzz a bit but I let the natural skin oil flatten it by again rotating the cue thru my hand .
I have also had a cue maker clean and press it on a lathe and theres no comparison to doing it by hand,much better.
And Magic eraser is too abrasive for linen, it's good to use on a very dirty shaft.

nothing wrong with the wrap getting fuzzy when cleaning, much akin to dampening the wood on a maple shaft to open the pores when cleaning it properly, you cannot properly clean a shaft unless the pores in the wood open, so same with linen, only way to clean dirt below the surface. But then just as a cleaned shaft should be resealed and burnished, so must a cleaned linen wrap be restarched and burnished.
