Because I wasn't around when these guys were in their prime and there is little video of them, who was the better player?

In straight pool, Lisciotti was the stronger of the two.

In eight ball, Jimmy Reid was the stronger of the two.

Nine ball would have been very close.

They were two very fine players in their primes.

This pretty well covers it. How do you know so much for a youngster? :D
One Pocket would also be close between them, with maybe a slight edge to Larry. They played in L.A. and in Dayton (?) once also. Jimmy beat Larry playing 9-Ball, but Larry won the One Pocket match.

I like posting up comparisons to similar players. You find out a lot of info on them that way.

Very close hookup here.
They were equally 'savvy' in my opinion and played many games well.
Jimmy gets the nod at anything snooker, especially payball.
Larry gets the cash one-hand.

If they both had a pocket full of cash and gambled for a month...
.they might be splitting the table time.

Larry wins the 'stand-up comedy' title...but no cinch there either.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the story of Liscotti's famous offer to match up for the cash against anyone in the world playing straight pool? (I believe this was some time in the 70's)

Lets take a look at the two players.

Straight pool-- Lisciotti would be a favorite. 125/100
Bank pool------Lisciotti would be a favorite 9/8
One pocket-----Too close to call
Nine Ball--------Reid would be a favorite 8 ball
Eight Ball------- Reid, maybe a hair
gambling ability--Lisciotti

It was in the cocktail lounge of Holiday Inn in Worcestor, Massachussetts in 1994. I was sitting next to larry at the Bar. We don`t know each other personally. He was telling his friend how hard he broke the racks in the 9 ball match concluded 15-30 minutes ago. He went on saying that he was hitting that 1 ball very hard because he started seeing his wife`s face on the 1 Ball. That is one of the funniest things I ever heard related to pool.
When I told about this to Jim Rempe he was surprised to hear that and said that larry loved his wife so much, he was surprised that larry said such things.

How many other sports can you ask a question like this and have one of the top plaryers/handicappers of all time directly respond with his opinion?

Its like asking for a side by side rundown of Reggie Jackson vs Tony Gywnn and having Pete Rose reply.

As always, thank you for all your response Billy.
