Live (Barely) from the Derby

Bob, you know expensive it is to ship that to BFE Indiana?
Now that the river boat is gone, they probably don't have a dock any more for shipping.

More expensive than the wahgoo is the post-dinner cognac. $350. A glass.💸💸💸💸💰

Hate to sound cheap, because you can ask anyone that knows me when I come to Derby... always 3 to 5k lighter than I show up...but they can keep the Gordon Ramsay restaurant and the prices no matter how good it is. I mean general principle still means something, right?!

A couple of questions if anyone itt knows.

Is Binions gone now and the Gordon Ramsay name taken it's place or no?

Also what about alcohol at the casino bar or bars(including upstairs)..., have their prices changed? For instance, it's usually $4 for a 12 oz beer. JD and Jim Beam are usually $7 a shot and Makers and Woodford are $8 a shot.....has this changed, too?

Fatboy, if you get hungry I'll have a little bit of an upgrade on the squirrel.food for free if you like. Also, plenty of Bourbon and a case of beer to go with it.

Not a high roller by any means, my bar tab was $700 last year even though I brought my own booze. From the sound of this thread it'll be more of the same this year, but I'm still on schedule to be there tomorrow afternoon and Lord willing, nothing is going to change that.

Binions is gone.

Alcohol everywhere, up and down. For a casino I find the prices pretty reasonably,

I felt quite bewildered when I found out that the fountain drinks were all free. Maybe I missed it last year in my first time and I bought Rockstars for 6 bucks a piece and 20 ounce bottles for like 4 bucks from the gift shop.

Now, I’m just grabbing it when I get a chance to stay hydrated.

$30 or so for a full meal from the Homestyle place.

Also hey @Fatboy, catching up on the rest of the thread…that story sounded like deja vu from a couple hours ago. I’m up on the rail next to Stu. I’ll say hey if I see you swing by again.

Must be some serious high rollers around if the steakhouse has no reservations and it’s $100 for a Ribeye, granted 22 ounces is obscenely large. The thought of this tournament firmly places me in the position to stay home and eat frozen broccoli. Otherwise I must be doing something wrong in my life.

At the Executive West I had a buddy helping me sell beer after hours right outside the tournament door.

You’re going to like this.

I was selling them $3 a piece…or 3 for $10 😆😆😆😆

You don’t know how many people said “give me 3”.

🙄 pool players ain’t the sharpest sometimes.

The people standing around would just do a double take and shake their heads.
I feel bad for the folks who never got to experience the Executive Wild West. I know the term "Good Ol' Days" gets thrown around a lot. But those really were some special times.

Yes, Virginia, they’ve shrunk the pockets.

All the pockets.

The balls are polished, the Simonis new, and the rails nice and springy. You will miss your banks on the short side and your position play on the long side. You will miss shots you are not accustumed to missing because there isn’t enough pocket where you think there should be pocket.

All the usual suspects are in attendance.

If I’m not mistaken the Action Room on the second floor is back —. get your tokens.

Lots of cues, cases, tshirts and pool gimcracks for sale. One cue mechanic is on duty.

The food situation is dire. Pizza joint and Mexican cantina closed. You have a choice of Vietnamese noodles, a grill, and the home style place. There’s a new Gordon Ramsey steakhouse but you can forget about getting in — it’s booked straight through March and the waiting list to sit at the bar is filled up at 445.

Won my first match, grinding out a 3-2 win. That is all for now.

The food situation is the most bleak I have ever experienced in my millions of miles of travel. Absolutely unbelievable.

Went with JRB

Was good food. Better than what ever it was branded as last time I was here.

Tipped $80 service was 10/10
14 dollars for Brussel sprouts?!? I can’t believe anyone would willingly pay money to eat those. That’s almost as bad as ordering a plate of liver and onions.

What in the world is potato “purée”? Please tell me they didn’t just try to church up mashed potatoes? I imagine potatoes so runny that they bring them out to you in one of those silver milkshake cups; two people at your table here’s two straws. Set it right in the middle and you can look lovingly into each others eyes, while you suck down that “purée.”

A bottle of Bud (or other domestic beer) was $4 at the casino bars. So $5 with tip.

So just average price nowadays. They weren't comped when playing Poker - still had to pay $4 for them.

Quite glad I couldn't get into Gordon Ramsay just to sit at the bar (they wouldn't let you do that unless you were eating and there was a large waiting list to get in so didn't bother). I expect ice cubes are $1 each in there. Minimum order of 5 cubes per drink. Whether you want them or not!

This event delivers a terrible message to the pool world: if you have money you belong, but if not, go on down the road.
Years ago, I was told to always vote with my feet. I refuse to be taken advantage of -- it is just not in my nature. Everyone who thinks the current DCC is all that should have attended the event at the EW, This current abomination lives on past glory and as long as there are folks who will take it, there are folks standing in line to deliver.

The move is to try to get a suite with a kitchen off-site and eat back at the room. I know having the room on-site is the nuts, and it make it easy to attend and compete in all the events. At the Old Executive West, folks complained about the food options too.

Oh, the sacrifices we make to enjoy pool sometimes.:p:love:
