If you mean creating the gap on both sides of the 1, it creates a dead rack and will not break very well at all. Easy solution...

Dont be afraid to ask for a re-rack either...and if you see them intentionally do it, Call em out and beat thier ass. They deserve it. :D

Nice plug. :D I did it too.

It almost sounds like he is talking about racking your own. In that case, they are trying to exploit their knowledge of the rack to make a wing ball on the break.

i er nvm i whont put that but i knew about the wing balls how too make them just curious if anyone knew what loading the rack ment

Rob..

still trying to get some confirmation...

We talked about this last night. I believe what Rob is trying to determine is if there is a way to load the rack so that the balls break a little better. Obviously with a perfectly tight rack they break pretty good.

It's not necessarily rolling the 1-ball back but pressing it against the 2 balls behind it very lightly to create a small amount of potential energy (at least that's what I call it). When breaking, the balls tend to explode.

Don't know if that's what happens or if it works, just what I have heard being attempted.

I don't think this means anything more than simply having the 1 ball touching the other balls normally.

(the wing ball) is dead if you break from near the side rail with a frozen rack.
Brief summary: if the rack is tight, the wing ball goes in for a fairly wide range of speeds and hits. If the rack is loose, the breaker has been cheated.

This has been known since the Sardo rack because that was the first time we saw lots of tight racks. There are several ways now to rack solidly with new "racks" such as the Magic Rack and even just "tapping" the table. That's why we're changing to ten ball. The break at nine ball has been broken for over a decade.

It should be a foul if one touches the balls after the rack is removed.

At a minimum, the rack should need to be placed back on/ removed.

It wasn't the first time I saw lots of tight racks.

The Sardo and my Rack-M-Rite Racking Template/tapping mat system (patented in 2000), which has since been used on the Euro Tour for years, came out at about the same time. We were in Valley Forge when the Sardo was first used in a WPBA tournament. The tournament director stopped by our booth complaining that Karen Corr was making the wing ball every time and practically running out the sets. I had to explain to him that the wing ball was dead.

The Rack-M-Rite Racking Template was the first perfect rack device used in men's professional tournaments when it was used on the Billiard Channel Tour in the US. After the first tournament we moved to racking the 9 on the spot. Ralf Souquet bought several from me and took them to Europe.

Racks were so inconsistent before that time that the best players in the world didn't seem to know the wing ball should be dead with a frozen rack. Lots of matches had many short racks caused by the money ball stopping near or falling in the lower corner pockets on the break.

Tapping the table with the Rack-M-Rite Template causes the balls to lean in toward the center and freeze due to the spacing of the template holes. This means the balls freeze better than tapping them in place in a rack, and move more easily with a softer hit.
