Here is the story...
right now i break with Mezz PB II and i seem can not break well with phenolic cue. So, i planning to change this cue.

My Budget is around 400$... what kind of break cue will you suggest me to buy...A gilbert, Varney or maybe something else...like Olney break cue or Omen J/B

I already post this thread on cue reviews section but do not get much attention. So maybe in this section somebody can tell me their opinion. I Appreciate your help, thanks

I would suggest taking it to a repairman and having a leather tip put on the cue you already have. Save yourself some money.

I would advise you to try out MG's new break cue, orange crush, the price is also decent he have it on sale now down to 125$ , check him out.

Hi Dedy;

I don't think you have to spend your $400 for a new break cue, unless you simply want to.

Cheaper options include J&J and Fury.

However, since you already have a great Mezz break cue, I would agree with Chuck and see about getting a different tip installed. I use a White Diamond phenolic tip and I think, for me, it's the best I've ever used.

If you want to get away from phenolic, many people have highly recommended the Samsara leather break tip.

Get one of these tips installed on your Mezz and treat yourself to a nice night out with the other $370.00.

You can put a hard leather tip on it and save 400 , I use a milk dude on my break cue and it works great also i have a jm pierce b/j ..
good luck....

I use a house cue to break. Just throwing this out there, maybe it is not the cue. I was not doing very good at the break till I did some research. I was wasting the chance to get a good break by over powering the cue and losing control. I also lost where I was striking the cue and putting forward spin on when I was trying for a stop or slight draw bringing the cue ball back to the center area instead of burying the cue ball at the foot of the table. Maybe a new tip will help, but I ran 3 ball break drills (only using 3 balls, I can "rewrack" faster for more practice) till I had better fundamentals, now I usually drop one on the break and sometimes three. Good luck, John

I bought a j/b cue from Kevin Varney, and I'm very happy with it. I can control the cue ball on the break, and its easy to jump with. I can definitely recommend the Varney.

I highly recommend you do a search on Varney before considering his cues. Results from 2008 should suffice.

The Mezz PB2 is a great break cue. Definitely top-of-the-line. I highly recommend getting the tip changed to a hard leather tip if you're uncomfortable with the phenolic. That makes the most financial sense, and you're keeping all the benefits of the PB2's construction.

I would recommend changing the tip to a Samsara. I have one on my break and i love it. You really get alot of control with that tip.

I recently picked up an Olney cue(designed to be my break cue) from Jeff O. and he installed a Tad tip on it. Its a leather tip but very hard. It's comparable to a water buffalo tip(extremely hard tip) but you can still use the tip as a player if you want to. I'd give Tad a consideration as well.

If you like the taper on your current break cue (and length in your situation since the mezz PB 2 is shorter if i recall correctly) then you don't need to buy another break cue.

Like others have said changing the tip to a samsara break tip will give you more control but won't sacrafice much power. If you do like the shorter cue and the taper of it too, then just changing the tip will definitely be the way to go.

I like my cues to have a long taper, even my break cues. The OB break is my break cue of choice because it's stiff still with a long taper. In the end it comes down to what you're most comfortable with.

Get the 17oz (i.e. weight bolt removed). It ends up being a little forward weighted, which changes the feel of the break stroke (for the better, IMHO).

It comes with the new Samsara break tip.

MSRP is $300, but it can be had for ~$270 from online retailers...

I haven't tried all the break sticks out there, but I have tried a few, and, without a doubt, I break best with this stick. I don't have a very muscular build and I get a pretty accurate 23-24mph hit out of it.

Of course your mileage may vary.

OK,
Here is one more.
Send me your old break cue and I will put it to good use. After I receive it, I will send you the cost for shipping it to me. (this is what you call "bad English". :D:D:D

I like the other ideas.
1. Change the tip.
2. PRACTICE breaking with the new tip.
3. If you still don't like it, change the tip again and practice some more.

You'd be surprised how your break improves with only a half hour of practice in breaking. With the phenolic tip/ferrule you are probably hopping the cue ball off of the table far too often. (Make your cue stick MORE level when you break to help remedy this problem).

Best Regards,
JoeyA

Hi Sir,,

I like the Length of this cue, but I found that this phenolic tip can not hold chalk well and i misscue a lot while i break.

In my home town, there is no cue repairman with ability to change the tip. Most cue repairman do here just change a playing cue tip, clean the shaft and put a ring tail lizard (it's very cheap to put a java ring tail lizard here. With 50$, you already have it install:thumbup:).

The Mezz Deep Impact Pro shaft is AWESOME. Its phenolic, but you wont be disappointed. Its control and power are both the best I've ever tried (and it holds chalk).
