Lurker stepping forward.

Just wanted to step up and post as I have been "lurking" on this forum for the last four months...

I'm a 25 year "bar box" player now taking the game more seriously. After an unlicensed uninsured latino took my 5 year car project away from me in an instant, billiards have replaced my obsession.

I have spent my entire pool "career" playing "bar pool" with house cues until six months ago. While winning an estimated 95% of the 8-ball games I've played (against mediocre, often drunken players) over the last 15 or so years, I am now excited to be learning more and more about the sport from the members of this forum.

I have purchased a handful of cues in the last few months and begun practicing to play league and tournament events in Columbus, Ohio. My current (modest) cues are a Pechauer JP1 w/a 13mm shaft, a Joss (unsure of model) cocobolo w/a 12.75mm shaft, and a Meucci MO4 Originals with 12mm and 13mm pre-dot shafts.

I have learned much in the 4 months I have been on this site and am excited and driven to learn much more from you here, realizing that I am far from the playing level of the majority of the members on AZBilliards.

Welcome to the forum, Michael! Since you've spent the past 4 months lurking, there's not much to tell you, except that you are probably not as far off the playing level of the avg. AZB'er as you think. Many of these folks are great players, but a lot of them might be even better if they were spending more time at the pool hall and less time on the forum. (Like me.) :D

It's nice to have a place to share, where there are so many folks with similar likes and dislikes. Come on in and join the fun!

Welcome to the fourm. I have been a lurker on this forum since 2003/2004...somewhere in there. I just started posting on here one day this year and have made a lot of friends via this forum.

Hi

Welcome Michael, your contibutions are are just as important as the guy who's been here for years. So have fun and speak up.

There are good people here. I recommend you get a couple lessons soon and that way you can get rid of bad habits quickly. Proper stroking methods will help your game a bunch. I'm not in any way hooked up w/any instructors... just my recommendation to a new poster.

I usually welcome new posters with saying RUN AWAY WHILE YOU CAN, but since you have been lurking for many months already I guess there is no hope for you.

AA will soon get a new member... (Anonym AZB)

This will probably be your speach in your first AA-meeting:

"Hi, my name is Michael, and I can't quit reading and posting on AZB. I have tried everything, but I just have to hit F5. Maybe someone replied on my post!!!"

Anyway, welcome to hell!

I don't play much on bar boxes and I've never been to Ohio, so maybe I can learn a thing or two from you too.

Welcome to the forum.:)

Heck of a coming out of the lurker closet post;

Can I ask why you felt the need to bring up the ethnicity of the person who stole your car? How is it relevant to the fact that you car go wrecked?

I agree Gregg...hopefully this poster is not a racist...that is the last thing we need around here is another person with a narrow outlook on the world.

And thats why people lurk

He makes a post, and it takes about 10 min till he is marked as a racist. People see what they WANT to see. Welcome to the forum..some of us are not perfect, but most are.

Exactly, it's not ten minutes until someone has tried to slam on the new guy. If he would have said "white anglo saxon," would you have even posted? No. You wouldn't have thought twice. Come on. He was describing what caused him grief. My welcome to you, Mr. Barbox. I do loves me some barbox. Anything I can do, let me know. There are some top notch players on here, and some who just, well..... you'll figure it out.

Welcome to AZB!

I'm not too far down the road from you as I live in Northern Kentucky just across the river from Cincinnati. We have our faults here on this forum, but overall I think it's the best pool forum by far.

Just Follow My Lead And You'll Be Fine.... imo :)

Exactly !
He'd have rustled alot fewer feathers had he simply said, "I'm a 25 year "bar box" player now taking the game more seriously. After an unlicensed uninsured Eskimo took my 5 year car project away from me in an instant, billiards have replaced my obsession. "
:)

( welcome aboard )

Oh, definitely WELCOME. Just, please, be somewhat sensitive to other posters who may have family members who are of Latino background like myself.

I mean, a poster on another MB was physically assaulted at Valley Forge for making derogatory comments about Asians. Maybe it was more clear cut when it was done, but come on; Latinos are commonly stereotyped as having sticky fingers. Let not play dumb here.

I think the person who got physically assaulted did so because he was an asshole, not because he made derogatory comments about Asians.

So, conclusion: derogatory comments to Asians is okay, as long as you're not an asshole.

Fred <~~~ I think

I won't call him a racist but why was the word there at all? The sentence works just as well without it, just use the word driver or motorist. The inference was there clear as day. I didn't WANT to see the word Latino there in that context, it WAS there.

Also, I read it as it was an accident that took his project car away, not that somone stole the car. Why would it matter if a thief was licensed/insured?
