My friend used to travel around with Luther Lassiter.He said the guy just had an answer for every situation on a pool table.Below is an example of what he meant.What would you do in this 9-ball situation.Conditions are average,medium pockets.I will post what Lassiter's answer was later:)

Bigger diagram would help. Several options, but none of them thrilling.

1) There's the straight bank with draw.
2) You can duck the eight ball four rails to leave it farily near the nine, while leaving the cue ball uptable.
3) You can cinch the eight and try the cut on the nine. If you are Lassiter, you are, in some eyes, the best ball pocketer that ever lived, so this has to be tempting.
4) There is an obscure rail first draw with right english available to get back downtable for the nine.
5) There's the straight safe, ducking the eight to the top rail and bringing the cue back down near the nine.

Looking forward to hearing what Lassiter did here.
 
I'm currently helping him with picture posting, screen captures, etc. We'll get it right.
 
I'm curious to hear what he did also. I tried this layout several times and was only success a few times by cutting the 8, going back and forth across and cutting the 9 in. If it were a real 9 ball game, I'd play safe #5 mentioned by SJM.

Hey you did it. Good job. Just a side note. I like to crop everything real close because I have dialup and uploads take forever. In other words, you don't need all the extra stuff. Just the table.

I shot both of these several times each. Neither was very successful. I'm not sure what I would do. I also tried the obscure rail first draw with right English. It's not any better. In fact I couldn't even get close. The angle is too wide.

Luther's shot

I bet Luther cut the eight in the bottom left corner using right-hand spin to go four rails for perfect postion on the nine.

He could cut a frozen ball (on the rail) from the third diamond and break the rack in straight pool.

Maybe he banked the Eight four rails and had it end up next to the Nine. And left the Cue Ball at the other end ot the table.

That's an Efren shot. No one ever shot this better than Effie.
 
The problem with my 4 rail safety is that if you aint dead nuts, you're racking. I like Jay's shot (SJM's #2) the best I guess.

This was Lassiter's way of dealing with it.SJM got it right with one of his guesses.He stroked it rail first with just below center,right English.

I would like to clarify that , even though I know the shot (choice #4 on my first post), I'd be most unlikely to execute it in a game situation.
 
You guys keep talking about the great Luther..i really respect that man..can any of you post several pics of him ..thank you..Happy New Year Cuejoey

Having seen him play, rail first, plus his speed would be so good even if he missed the cue ball would be on the head rail, probably fozen.
