This thread needed more controversy! lol. Post your order if they played a tournament in their prime!
Here's mine:

Mike (Captain Hook) Sigel
Earl (The Pearl) Strickland
Nick (The Kentucky Colonel) Varner
Buddy (The Riffleman) Hall
Johnny (The Scorpion) Archer
Keith (Earthquake) McCready
Jimmy (Pretty Boy Floyd) Mataya

That's how I would rank em, although any of em in their prime and at their best had this ridiculously unstoppable gear to em.

Reading through some of the stats from AccuStats on here and you can really get a feel for just how incredibly great they were. There's a lot of stats on a lot of great players. Mike Sigel is mentioned quite a bit, as well as Earl.

I'll post my order but consider this. Johhny is 5 of 7?

If you are talking about 9 ball tournaments, then Johhny Archer is above them all, even if they were all in their prime. Take a look at Archer's list of major winnings. In the 1990's he was the most dominant player and decisively so. Since Johnny was a kid when he started, he did much of this playing against Earl, Mike, Nick, and Buddy in their prime.

1994

Won "all-around" in Cleveland (won all three events: straight pool, 9-ball and 10-ball)

1993 Player of the Year

He truly is one of the most dominant figures in all of sports, and most overlooked too.

I would rank them in 9 ball:

Johnny
Earl
Sigel
Nick
Buddy
Keith & Floyd tie

In Straight pool:

Sigel/Archer tie
Varner
Earl
Buddy
Floyd
Keith

I am basing this on actual accomplishments and watching them on tapes.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, I'd like to redo my list please!
I like it.

It's funny how everyone has a different list.

I always think if I was betting how would I bet....not who I like (Keith would be the most fun to watch).

I saw Varner "owe" 18 balls to a guy and still win.

Buddy is old school that and controls the cue ball better than any of them.

Its all about heart, not who I like.

Nobody has given a single fact about why someone other than Johhny Archer should be Number 1. I've said why. Who has won more than Johhny Archer?

Chris

I don't think it's possible to rank these guys, or any list of top 10. Anybody that makes the list is capable of beating anybody else on a given day.

But if I have to choose I want Buddy or Nick or Johhny, or Earl, or Keith, in my corner.

Archer is a great 9 ball player but he couldnt carry Mikes case whenit comes to straight pool.
