Make az strickly memberships @ $100 a yr.

I agree that you've earned the right to post for free but based solely on the content of your posts... not the amount of posts/rep.

You can't base it off post count or rep points because once you do, CocoboloCowboy becomes like a God around here . And if that ever happens...

- B <---------shaking my head at the thought.

I think you got my overall point. I can think of a lot of long time members here that can find better ways to spend $100. You're a new family guy...I'm sure you would much rather spend that money on your lovely wife or on your beautiful boy. Others might find it better spent on, oh say, rent, food, dare I say...pool. LoL!

There is already a growing chasm in this country between the haves and the have-nots. Is it really necessary to bring that here, in such an 'in your face' manner? Like you, I just happen to think it's a really bad idea.

Posting on AzBilliards becomes cyclical sometimes. Instead of posting replies to a thread, one could just post links from days gone by.

Here's a thread on this subject matter from August 2007:

Yet, Another Poll Thread

If I'm still around in 2013, I'll bet I will be reading another thread on this same topic. :grin-square:

Now, let's see. Who's the best pool player in the world? Maybe I should start another new thread about that topic. ;)

We can write it off to ignorance, the OP hasn't bothered reading the stickies on the existing methods to support AZ; such as the $35 support banner.

Here is the link to the stick on Club Membership. Its first post that comes up, not that it matters for anyone who cares to read.
http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=86523

If its not ignorance, then its sheer arrogance. OP knows about the existing methods to support the site, he hasn't cited any sound reasoning why his idea is superior, or the current methods lacking. In other internet forums, this fits into a classic troll. Stirring up sh*t, so he can sit back and be amused.

As far as I can tell, OP still hasn't bother to donate, so why will I believe he/she will pony up $100 to back his/her idea? If we were wagering, the old line "Money talks, bull$hit walks" line would come in about here!

What I like is the fact that the OP has replied to just about everyone EXCEPT this post.

Do a search for ruck parts or gun parts and ow to fix it or install it and you get forums with picture you cant open unless your a member do you spend 100 to see if its the right answer or try look some where else. In research i belong to 40 70 website forums but only use 5 forums because most were stupid copy and pasted from another forum.

first month free, then if you like I could see a donation $40 and get a free shirt.

If you make money off of the sight give a little back. If you like to stir the pot with extra bs then get banned or limited post per month, per week, per day till decided we the forum dont want you .

Craig
What if you lose money on everything you sell? would it be kosher to not pay a fee?

you know those sites actually show you how to do something though. there isn't a whole lot of instruction on here. i mean you can learn stuff but the game is so much "feel" you can see it and hwo it's done over and over and not be able to do it. it's not like putting together a shotgun or something

Let's see, having been a member here since April of '04, with over 4300 posts, and a great reputation...I think I have pretty much darn well earned the right to post without having to pay for it. The Admin/Mods will smote me if I get outta line...and that is all I need to answer to.

Truth is, some folks here cannot afford the $35 Club Membership, let alone a $100 Annual Membership. But just because they cannot afford it, doesn't mean that they do not have valid content to offer. When you begin to propose these types of restrictions, you are on a very slippery slope to a Caste/Class hierarchy.

It's obviously Mike's site to do with as he wishes, but I quite frankly cannot see him entertaining the idea...something akin to selling one's soul and all. Personally, I find your proposal offensive.

Lisa

You're on to something with this post Lisa. i think with all the high end cues, and big gambling talk that goes on here, people tend to forget that a lot of AZ'rs aren't exactly well to do.

this plan could actually post us a lot of posters that we like hearing from.

you think maybe a $100 deposit, to be returned if the az're doesn't get banned within 30 days, would work?

Hmmm

Bad idea.

You want a mixed neighborhood: the wealthy, the poor, the eccentric, the handicapped, the normal, the couples, the singles, the gays, the heteros, the runners, the slugs, the teetotalers, the alcoholics, the techies, the red necks, the hotties and the not so hot.

Lou, what kinda bar do you drink at...and I really gotta make sure I never stumble in there !! lol

I'm not sure how feasible here, but I believe AZ has the critical mass of viewers and posters.

High traffic boards like slashdot and 4chan have millions of postings daily. They have their share of drivel, but seem to survive and thrive on the moderator point system.

From a pool of posters, randomly select people to be moderators. They have to rate threads and postings. A short list of threads and postings with high views. With multiple moderators, you can override the bias of one poster. Build a filter (call it a digest) that will only show the highest rated post for the day week, etc based on moderators and views.

A programmer could write an algorythm where High quality postings are ported over to a wiki database. So, if someone looks up cue cases, they can see all the quality postings of John Barton (minus the rantings) on the subject.

Here is an example on Slashdot. Moderators classify the posting (informative, funny, spam, rant, etc)

Good answer.

I was thinking we're ready for yet another aiming thread now that the membership/ dues topic has come around again.

I can tell you this, I've been a voluntary paid supporter of this forum since I joined and am more than happy to help foot the bill around here. But, if it turned into a *have to pay* system they could take the forum and jam it up their collective asses. Also, it's funny to see a thread like this brought up by someone that isn't helping support the forum in the first place.
MULLY
come back and talk about people having to pay when you get that little yellow box under your name.

Wow, at $100 per year there better be some premium content offered... I'm in for the current $40, but $100 may result in one less member, and a LOT more time on my hands... :)

Only 3 "members" in this entire thread so far . . . If you think AZ is a good thing, I suggest supporting it so that it stays that way.

You make a good point Mr Hoppe.

I think $100 is too high also.

Thank you...
Life happens. A lot too much of it happening to a lot too many people in these times, unfortunately. For those, I hope the best for you and am glad you can find an enjoyable time away here.
MOST are likely capable of the modest current membership investment to support a site you enjoy.

$100 per year in an attempt to impose greater propriety thru exclusivity...? No way to treat your friends...

Cream rises to the top naturally, and from the most humble of beginnings.

Sometimes I'm right and I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song
The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then
Makes no difference what group I'm in
I am everyday people, yeah yeah
There is a blue one who can't accept the green one
For living with a fat one trying to be a skinny one
And different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-bee
Oh sha sha - we got to live together
I am no better and neither are you
We are the same whatever we do
You love me you hate me you know me and then
You can't figure out the bag l'm in
I am everyday people, yeah yeah
There is a long hair that doesn't like the short hair
For bein' such a rich one that will not help the poor one
And different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-bee
Oh sha sha-we got to live together
There is a yellow one that won't accept the black one
That won't accept the red one that won't accept the white one
And different strokes for different folks
