And, you do realize that most of the drivel here is posted by individuals "with money". The site would not improve; and I dare say, would degrade further.
EDIT: Not that I think it is that bad of a place. I just ignor the whining.
Oh, and I would just create a free site. I'm sure others would do the same.
EDIT: Oh, and threads like this do not help in any way, shape or form. To be honest, I'm sorry I responded. But, I did not want to delete my post.

You want a mixed neighborhood: the wealthy, the poor, the eccentric, the handicapped, the normal, the couples, the singles, the gays, the heteros, the runners, the slugs, the teetotalers, the alcoholics, the techies, the red necks, the hotties and the not so hot.

it's not a good idea but it would eliminate some of the BS...ie theft and guys joining just to start 1 thread.
i got hooked years ago. i'd sell blood and plasma if i had to but i'd buy a membership.
Or maybe just start a section for verified members..you could still post
in the General sections and so could all the others..like Guns of America
does..they varifie you with a credit card..and make it that we use
our real names and post a pic of yourself in your avatar..i would
surely feel and enjoy posting with people i know are truely Pool guys
and can put my post with a face and name..and feel so much better
about buying on here..like i bought pool balls from Rackem Zachem
and never got them..had guys back out of deals..ect..if it were more
personal on here i would enjoy it much better..SA

You can't be serious. Right? You think paying $100 would ensure that you only get good, knowledgeable people here?
Money or not, you'll always have a wide range of people with different thoughts, ideas, tastes, opinions, etc.. You'll still get arguments, only now it'll cost $100 for everyone to read and/or participate. Money or not, people will always disagree. People will always have different interests. And there are PLENTY of people who know jack-sh*t about them game but would still fork over the $100 to be part of the club. Still, you'll lose traffic. You'll lose advertisers/sponsors, etc..

How do you figure? The scam artists would sell their mother to get the funds to buy-in...and now you've made their target group easier to find (the ones with money)...like shootin' fish in a barrel.

This posts suggests that only true 'pool guys' have the money to participate...I cannot even follow this line of thought. In fact, many die-hard pool players are often broke-ass pool players. That $100 may be a night's capital for them.
As to the reduction of theft...again, I call bunk. The rules to buying here are really no different than from buying on eBay or CraigsList, or elsewhere. Caveat Emptor. As previously stated, the scammers will fork the $$$ over in order to get at a group that has already been culled for them.
