This has been a big problem for me and it has cost me money more than once.

Some of these guys that put on tips here and there around the country don't realize how important it is to get the exact tip you want on your cue.

it's like Oh well. He wants a kamuo ss tan. All I have is a s tan. he won't know the difference.

Well believe me I did. I even asked him if it was a kamui it played so different.

It cost me about $300 trying to spin the ball and not getting the reaction that i needed. The difference is huge. This is why I replaced the old tip because it was getting a little hard and compressed.

I suggest that everyone should buy these tips on the internet so they know what they are getting.

The kamuis that i have had put on play so consistent. When they say it is a SS it plays just like the other SS tips.

Beware. You might not be getting what you want. Once it's on who knows???????????????????

I put my tips on myself. It's not very hard, even without a lathe. Takes a little bit of time and patience, but you know exactly what you're getting. There's also a bit of satisfaction in doing it yourself.

As do I. Like you said, it really isn't that hard, doesn't take a lot of machinery and only takes a few minutes to get that job well done feeling.:)

ADAPT, OVERCOME, and IMPROVISE. IMHO blaming poor play on your Tip is BOGUS. The BEST PLYER in the State of Arizona who was know as HALE STORM played with nothing more than a LE PRO Tip, he won ever event hands down because of his skill, and not his equipment.

He played with nothing more than a MC DERMOTT CUE, with a Leather WRAP, and like I said a LE PRO TIP.

IMHO I would love to have the Hail Storm Skill, Mental Game, Stroke, and nothing more than a House Cue, Willard Shaper, and some 220 Sand Paper.

When Mike Howerton aka AZHOSEPRO ran his tour in Az, how many year did the Hail Storm take it all. Ever year I can remember with just his MC DERMOTT CUE, with a Leather WRAP, and like I said a LE PRO TIP

Well, that's cool and all, but even people who use Le Pro tips (hey, it still shows up in spite of not having caps lock on, look at that) like to get what they ask for, and might not immediately adjust to something different after getting so in tune with what they're used to.

Think you missed the Point, some to make it simple like you were from Rio Linda, CA the City Rush Limbaugh picks on all the time.

How in the heck did Willie Mosconi Play so great with marginal equipment, by todays standards??

Willie's SKILL.

Willie didn't even know squat about something called PERFECT AIMING, but I would love to have Willie's Skill at Pool, and Mental Ability at Pool than all the bogus mumbo jumbo, tips, super chalk, high tech stick & shafts peddled in the Pool World in 2012.

JMHO

It is a shame that you have had this problem, I build cues and also repair them at my Pool Hall. However, the sad fact is if you deal with people who you don't know in some cases you can expect to have problems.

I personally can't stress this fact enough, when you find a reputable repairman or cue maker use the same person as much as possible. Obviously it is better for the customer and the repairman because being familiar with your customers likes and dislikes when it comes to tips or other repairs the person doing the work knows what each customer expects and the customer can be assured with the quality of the work done.

When you walk up to some one you have never dealt with before it can be a crap shoot, trust must be gained it should not be given freely or you can expect more problems in the future.:frown:

See Geno if you'd stuck with Triangles you wouldn't have this problem :) j/k.

Hope you're doing well.

I have wayyyy too many irons in the fire right now but I can promise you there will be a new product on the market for tip testing in the next 6 months... I have done significant testing and design and should have a final prototype completed in 3-6 months.....

Getting what you pay for is not always the same thing as getting what you want. I have seen too many variances from tip to tip from different boxes of batches to ever trust in just saying give me a medium (insert tip maker and type here).......

While some like Cocobolo will never "get" it... We all expect certain results from a tip otherwise it can cost us matches or wads of cash.... I saw Buste have Joe Blackburn put 3 tips on his shaft within an hour... He would go out and hit balls and apparently if it didn't do exactly what he wanted it was cut off and replaced... Much quicker and smarter than adjusting to a new tip...... Was pricier tho =)

I can relate. I used the same kamui ss for a 18 months and never had a problem with it, then had a new one put on by a different person and all he had was a kamui s, big difference. This one is hard as a rock. I have mis-cued with this thing several times and never even thought of a miscue with the ss on.

Geno, do all cue repair men do this or only the ones that you deal with?

Good advice. Everyone should buy tips on EBay and then take them over to a
repairman and expect him to put wear and tear on his lathe for a couple of bucks. Example: I use one blade twice and it gets thrown out. Blades aren't free.

If the EBay tip should delaminate during insatllation or something should happen shortly there after, the repair man should also warranty said tip.

I would certainly hope that genomachino knows and uses his local cuesmith when he is at home. When he is on the road teaching, he is at the mercy of whomever he is recommended to. Buyer Beware!

Or put your own on, it ain't brain surgery!!!

Some folks I suppose can't comprehend.

Good advice Geno. I keep a small stock of tips just in case. Sometimes put them on myself sometimes not. The "not" times I'm charged whatever he wants to charge. In fact I never ask the price. I'm there for a tip not a discussion. If one goes flying across the shop I hand him another. If he has what I want I hold on to my stock.

Its very simple.

It's like anything else in life. You find someone you trust and stick with 'em. If they violate your trust, find someone else.

I, for one, would never lie to a customer. And if, for any reason, they lose their trust in me, I will recommend someone else to them. It's all about integrity, not whether you get caught.

I tried Kamui S first and I didn't like it at all. It was too hard for a S tip and I switched to a SS Kamui and it was like a night and day difference! I would know immediately if someone put an S on my shaft instead of an SS Kamui.

You know some point the finger for failure were it belong at themselves, others blame equipment, humidity, the room was too hot, too cold, etc.

I find that most really great pool players spend time on the practice table, work hard on game building. Others buy a DVD, watch it once, and say the material did not teach them anything. Some are always hunting for the perfect Cue, or Cue Tip.

No one is going to win all the time, but some who are better because of practice, and skill building win frequently.

Like I said I would rather have Mosconi's Game & Skill than a Willie Mosconi's Cue, and no skill to make it sink balls. Maybe my thinking is wrong.

Buying tips on Ebay is stupid (I mean no disrespect to you). Your chance of getting ripped off (getting a fake tip) is greater even than running into a flaky cue mechanic putting the wrong one on for you. If you are going to order online, you should at least buy from reputable dealers, like Mueller, PoolDawg, etc.

"If the EBay tip should delaminate during insatllation or something should happen shortly there after, the repair man should also warranty said tip." WTF. You sound like PoolPlayer2026, the illegal immigrant who always wants something for nothing and who never tips.

There are a million and one tips on the market. If you have special tip you want you should just buy it and have your repairman put it on.

Youre missing the point.

The tip caused him to play poor because it wasnt what he expected it to be.

Kinda like drinking a glass of ice tea and someone sets there glass of coke in front of you and you drink that by accident. You dont dislike coke, it just wasnt what you were expecting.
