Mali Cue history. indentifing cues?

Buster8001: Thanks for the scans! Good size too! Greenie for you!

If you find the others at some point. Please post them.

Thanks, Chop! I will. I also found my Huebler brochures with yours as well.

I agree regarding those early Mali cues, as well as early Viking & Adam, they're all well made and play great.

Yup.

I only have two Huebler cues, my H-14, and a rare Huebler jump cue. My H-14 is one of my favorite cues. I have an original 29 inch shaft and two original 31 inch shafts for it. I also have the original JPs and original Huebler Deluxe case with original sales tags for the cue. Damn nice set.

The prices got crazy after Huebler died so I haven't been finding any to buy. I have turned down $1,200 for my H-14.

I have a few Viking cues going back to about 1966/67. A lot of cool history there. I really dig them and could kick myself for missing a couple good deals. But I do have some that I really enjoy.

.

Definitely a cool cue and plays extremely well. I won all my races last Sunday with it. Only lost three racks total. I am very pleased with the cue.

Don't you dare tell me that Mali replaces your Joss... :grin-square:

All the best,
WW

So just purchased off ebay a Mali cue, it's an M-7 out of the first catalog but, the green boxed logo is vertical not horizontal, 60/70s?? Not looking to sell it as I am now at the point that I am moving away from "production cues".
Also I would like to thin my cues..I have a Schon STL18 with 2 matching Schon shafts...The cue is in VERY VERY GOOD (95-100)condition with normal blueing on the shaft I play with, the other shaft is unused...Retail is 1400-1500 with one shaft
The other cue I wouldn't mind parting with is a McDermott Emerald Warrior M24C retired in 2005 in mint condition with original shaft minimum use + an OB1 shaft with the correct rail road rings never used..retail off mcdermott's site is 679 with one shaft...
Anyone interested I will send pictures...

My late father owned this one at one time, sent it with Bill Hoyt to have it worked on,and never saw it again,it disappeared out of his shop somehow. I saw it in 2000 in Dick Abbott's booth, until then unknown but ID'ed by Dick, but had no proof it was dad's other than I know details about it. I contacted him and he said he remembered it,but not where it went. Tommy D.

I’m wondering if anybody can tell me whether this is a Mali or not and if so, which one it might be.
There is no logo or name on the butt.

I've searched threads on this site and have not found much info. I've also tried an extensive search on the Web. Not much luck either.
I have owned several older Mali cues and have always wondered how old and what era they may have been from.
I was wondering if everyone with Mali knowledge could take a moment and post what they know about Mali cues. Maybe ever owning a Mali, what design (Green letter, Gold letter) and what year. Even if your not sure I can piece together some history on how old these cues are. One thing I'm not certain about is which of the two are older Green or Gold letter models.

These are some cues I own or have owned in the past. A few are Green letter Mali's and the last is a Gold letter Mali.

I’ve searched- i’m not even sure if this is a Maui. It has no name on it whatsoever. It just looks similar to some that I found using the search bar.

While on the topic of Mali look-alikes, there is one for sale now here:

Been wanting to post on this topic for a bit now as I've recently got back into pool and I've also become reacquainted with Mali pool cues.

For some background my first pool cue my Dad bought me when I was 12-13 was a gold label Mali cue which given my age would have meant we bought it new from a shop right around 2000-2001. Assuming the cue had not been sitting on the shelves for ages this likely would've been from one of the last years when Mali cues were made in the US.

One big reason we looked at finding me a Mali cue is that my Dad's cue is a Mali he bought in 1979 (still has the sticker on it). He specifically remembers buying the cue in this year as they were robbed by their real estate agent and among other things they took his previous pool cue (It was also the missing pool cue which alerted them to being robbed). His is interesting as it has the hallmarks of being an M-1 model I saw in some of the later catalogues (think they dated from the 1980s) with a brass joint, pin and insert, an all black wrap for the grip and no additional rings or inlays, except in the catalogue the M-1 has an all maple butt section whereas for my Dad's cue it looks to be a brown wood (I'm guessing maybe rosewood, mahogany or something similar). One other thing was that we couldn't remember if there was no branding on the white butt cap or if there was previously a green label Mali logo inside a box which has since rubbed off. I vaguely remember seeing it with the green logo as a kid, however I can't confidently say it did and either way it's definitely not there now.

When I bought my Mcdermott GS09 while getting back into pool I noticed it was very similar in approach to my gold label Mali (ie thinner diameter grip/butt, a resin joint with a steel pin that screwed directly into the wood for the shaft, and a pro taper with sanding on the shaft) and it got me wondering if I could find a cue that was similar to my Dad's Mali as I used to alternate between the two back in the day when I would play.

This led me down a journey where, thanks in no small part to the information posted in this thread, I purchased a green label T-6 from the Trophy series. As I am down under in the land of Oz I first had it go to my Dad so that he could take photos of all 3 Mali cues together before mailing me the gold label Mali and the T-6. The photos I attached are one's he's taken going through all 3 cues. Interestingly the T-6 looks to be somewhere in between my gold label and my Dad's Mali specs-wise. It has a steel joint, steel pin and a brass insert combination, decorative rings and a what looks to be a thinner tip closer to the gold label while being a thicker cue around the grip section.

One last note that I thought was interesting is that the pin length on all 3 Mali cues is different. My dad's Mali has a very short brass pin, the T-6 has a longer steel pin that looks to still be a different thread from the gold label, and the gold label has a steel pin that looks to be like the 3/8-10 pin found on my McDermott.

Many Thanks,

Mr M
