Mark Wilson & Don Wardell, M.D.

What if one sentence made your pool journey all that much more enjoyable? I bought two books.

JoeyA

Joey I bought two books as well. I am sure people that don't buy this book already play as good as they need to play. Myself I want to get better and this book is a roadmap to improve my pool game now so all I have to do is to be willing to walk the road to the end it is a long road but a journey with many personal rewards.

So if you already play good enough save 70 bucks and don't buy the book.

Player that want want to improve and have 70 bucks they can afford to spend and the time to do the work required should buy this book. You will not regret it.

High level pool is attainable and Mark Wilson with the help of Don Wardell has shown the way.

thanks for a great book

Hey guys, take it easy on tommyceilings. My only expertise is on what makes a good textbook (B.S., M.S., M.D. degrees...I doubt anyone has read more texts than me).

I didn't want my name on it as an author; realizing it would detract at least in a small way from the credibility of the work; but Mark insisted.

I did the writing and organizing; but it is MARK'S LIFE'S WORK AND HIS CONTENT. I did it only for the good of the game (and have no financial stake in this...except the free meals I expect to beg from Cathy :-)). Those like elvicash who have read every pool book know that much of the material in this book is completely new and groundbreaking - it has never been done before. Neither Mark nor I care at all if anyone buys it; we just wanted to leave it as a legacy to his life's work and get it into the Library of Congress. I think it has done it fairly well. The info in the first 6 chapters is not really found in any pool book ever; and Part III on applying Navy Seal training principles to learning pool is also quite unique. His structured training regimen to teach YOURSELF to play at a high level is likewise unique.

Happy reading to any student motivated enough to read it - you will find much of value, and you will be the member of a very exclusive club - you will be a true student of the game...and our friend. I would have KILLED to have something like this to read when I was a teenager with time on my hands to learn; but no good guide to proficiency.

thanks for the great book

I bought and read this book and didn't feel it was worth its price http://www.amazon.com/Textbook-Ultr...UTF8&qid=1381022650&sr=1-9&keywords=textbooks

Dude or Dudette....you know what the beauty of living in America is? You have a choice if you want to buy it or not (except for your health care but that is another story). If you feel it is too expensive, you don't need to buy it. That is called free enterprise. I don't know why you would want to knock their product just because of price. If you haven't seen it you couldn't have completed a proper price/benefit analysis.

I don't thing the DUDE above actually clicked on the link or he may have realized it was a joke.. Just guessing..

Worth Mark's price, certainly. I waited several months for his completion.

It's no bedtime read; it's a textbook.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy it, but IMO the non-buyers will be the losers.

Lately there have been a number of posts on "how do I do this", "why can't I get this to work", ect. Well, I fully understand not everyone being able to afford lessons. And, while lesson are definitely the best way to go, this book is surely the only thing in second place. While there are great videos of "how to" on the net, none come close to really explaining the truly finer points of how to play very well. This book does that in spades.

I'm not all the way through the book yet either. About 1/4 of the way through it. The way Don explains Marks' thoughts is truly fantastic. I wish I had half the way with words that Don does. I guess that's what an education does for you.

For anyone that is at all serious about learning how to play, this is the book you must have. I don't agree with everything in it. Such as Mark's take on aiming systems. ( I felt he made it clear that he really hasn't spent that much time with them). But, not everyone always agrees. The first part is all about fundamentals. Why they are so very important, and how to do them properly, and what happens when you don't do them properly. That part alone is worth the price of the book.

It's less than the remedial reading course that you very obviously need. Mark is one of the great teachers of our era...and Don not only plays, supports, and understands pool, but happens to be extremely articulate too...which is a real bonus when writing a book. Definitely on my list of "must haves". Tell you what...since yours is used, and obviously of no value to you, I'll give you $35 for it :D

Scott, you might want to click on the link he provided. It will give a whole new meaning to his post.

I have been abstaining from reading this book due the fact that I have three tournaments coming up in the next few weeks. I'm the kind of guy who will try just about any technique or system, and will even go so far as to change out my cue before an event.

In fact, I have a new Dzuricky shaft for my playing cue, with the carbon fiber insert and LOVE playing with it on the bar table even though it is slightly lighter than my other playing shaft. Go figure.

Nevertheless, after these tournaments are finished, I will start some in depth reading of "Play Great Pool". What I have read and scanned so far looks GREAT!

Neil,
I'm glad its taking you a while to work through it. About a year and a half ago, it was TWICE as long. Five or six rounds of editing trimmed it down to its current size. I was worried that it would lose some credibility from being so short....but the small font and subsection headings make it MUCH easier to use...you can see at a glance where you are in the chapters. It really is a text for long term use; not a quick read like many pool instructionals.

Good luck plowing through the rest...hopefully I won't have to buy it back from you (I have enough copies now :-)). I hope you will agree that there is no pool book like it...it was written expressly for players like yourself (students of the game who CARE about the sport).
