Mark Wilson: Genius Or Nincompoop?

Where we gonna go? start a thread, "Place to give your honest opinions if you are a banger"

I'm not sure but we're not able to possibly know anything about this game because we havnt wasted our lives in a pool room. It's strange though, John Clayton must play football pretty well... ESPN considers him an expert on the nfl but he's so small. So strange.

Blatant and shameless derail, but the ESPN promo with John Clayton doing his drops from his bedroom, then yelling to his mother afterwards is about the funniest thing I've seen in years.

I know its an old promo, but I chuckle every time I see it.

Carry on with your worthless opinions....I'll add my worthless opinions in Discos new thread for bangers

ESPN does it good and that's one of the best.

The John Schmidt of the melt down with his cue sponsor was coming off a disastrous marriage as well as the loss of a business venture.

The John I knew in So. Calif in the 90's had a whole lot of heart. He was playing mostly Morro 9 Ball at nights and losing thousands while during the day he was learning 1Hole from Jack Cooney and those lessons were not cheap. He admitted to having a mental hurdle when it came to playing Morro. He would disappear for a few days or weeks and return with pockets of $ and start over, always with a good heart. Finally he got over the mental hurdle of Morro and soon Morro wasn't chasing him any more to match up. In the meantime Cooney was thrilled with his students progress but there were no more 10./8 games.

John has recovered his humor and I think because of that he has recovered his heart and love of the game. If his personal life is on keel he will be a real asset with this experience and his natural talent. His talent when under control presents a problem to any member of the other team. At his best he will keep the other players grounded and be professional at the table. Would a year of seasoning helped him--heck yes but he has achievements to his name no other player has. He just has to handle any set backs in a positive manner like a leader should.

I like this post..

thanks for sharing what you know.

Andrew, if you're the Captain one day I hope you pick me. I promise to play my best every match.

Jay, I'm really happy to hear you aren't one who complains negatively in advance when nothing bad has happened yet, and are reserving judgement on our US Mosconi Cup Team, until you see them play. It not only shows respect for Mark Wilson, but also shows respect to the players who will represent us this year.

GO USA!!!!

Actually he was just hoping to see me as the captain one day. The team would be in good hands with me. He said nothing in that reply about Mark or the team.

lol Brian I stated my opinion that Jeremy is on the level of about 30 others. No better and only worse than a few and the whole north east gets butt hurt and wants to play me. lol amazing.

Btw, Phil said most on the list I made could get played in CT, Bartram responded (on this forum) today. if any of you guys would like to help Jeremy out, back him and Chris is on his way. He's in ny now and it won't take long.

woof woof.

I know Jeremy is your friend and all and I said this in another thread and I think it's worth repeating...

Let's be real. Jeremy is a great player but there are a whole lot of American players who are as good if not better than him. I cannot see Jeremy spotting any of the following.

Svb
Dechaine
Rodney
Corey
Archer
Earl
Stevie Moore
Shuff
Bartram
Joey grey
Chip Compton
Justin hall
Justin Bergman
Donny Mills
Rob Saez
Henessee
Skylar Woodward
Oscar
John Schmidt
Jeremy jones
Mike Davis
Andrew Cleary
Larry Nevel
Hatch
Wilkie
Keith Bennett
Frost
Max Eberly
Putnam

Are you saying you will match up even with Sossei?

Actually he was just hoping to see me as the captain one day. The team would be in good hands with me. He said nothing in that reply about Mark or the team.

I call shotgun, if you're the Captain!!!

We'll guarantee victory.

And people can bet on it.

Is that even how to spell it, n-i-n-c-o-m-p-o-o-p?

So the team has been chosen and it leaves me feeling confused and bewildered.

The selection of John Schmidt was based on what?

It could not have been based on his rotation play this year - or last. Was it that he is a 2006 US Open winner - a wiley veteran that our team needs? Or could it be that he's so much fun to be around, that his quick wit and intelligence has earned him a spot on the team? A mascot?

What about earning your way on to Team USA by performance?

What kind of message does this send to future candidates who bust their asses, play extremely well all year, have perfect attitudes, then get passed over in favor of someone who has not shown up at any rotation event of note displaying anything that remotely resembled success.

Can John polish up his rotation game in time for Mosconi Cup play? I suppose it's possible and, to be honest, I really hope that he does.

*BUT*

Why on earth was Jeremy Sossei kicked to the curb with the kind of year he is having? His rotation game is already gleaming. And he's a perfect gentleman.

For a captain who claims to be building a bright future for US pool, I fear that the exclusion of someone like Jeremy from the squad sends a really lousy message.

If you keep your nose clean, work your behind off, get consistently great results all year, you can be passed over in favor of someone who has had no appreciable success in 9b in a very long time.

Mark Wilson may turn out to be a genius but at this particular moment, I'm leaning the other direction.

John, I hope you will surprise us all.

and I will always say:

Go USA.

best,
brian kc

Or perhaps Mark Wilson didn't have free control as to who would be on the team as is being portrayed.
