Mark Wilson is GREAT

I was one of the biggest critics of the selection process, but after watching this years Cup, I can say that I hope Mr. Wilson coaches next year. Not because of this year's results, but because I think he's a bright enough guy to see that he made a mistake in the selection process, and make the necessary corrections. Plus, I think we need his kind of class and demeanor. Just don't make the same mistake twice!

He looked like he didn't want to be there. In the past couple years I haven't seen SVB use "give up stroke" like today. Like when he missed the 6 ball down 4-2 vs Nikos. That simply is well beneath him.

Too many passive personalities on this team. They didn't even look like they wanted it. Europe ran through the finish line like champs...good for them.

I think the argument could be made that a more fiery tone could have been set somewhere along the way, but when you're getting beat to death it's kinda hard to come with "the 'tude."

I think the team would be better served with a hard core road player that hasn't had too much brain damage from the pills and booze.

A college teaching, well spoken, politically correct type ticks all the mainstream media boxes, but that don't inspire players, nor point them in the direction of winning at all costs.

The lag debacle cost US at least 7 frames. Proved to me, they focused on superficial things like showing face, behaving well etc, not winning.

I think this is pretty insightful. Like anyone else would, first time out, Mark is feeling his way through this. And one of the big Navy Seal tenets is adaptability. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he makes some adjustments if he takes this on for a second year.

Then we will have to disagree, Stu. I believe the process requires all of us to take the long view and not be short-sighted. As Mark said in his post game interview, pointing to the team, "This is the future."

and it is bleak. Im not sure the Mosconi Cup will be around for the long haul with this kind of showing. Still I am happy we didnt field last years team or anything close to it. This years team was dull but at least they didnt act like aggressive jerkoffs. We need THREE new members next year and meanwhile SVB needs a sport's psychologist.

Well, the thing is that hard work, practice, discipline, teamwork, and honor are not "superficial things."

lol.

SVB has proven time and again he is a thoroughbred. Just a bad outing. It happens.

Bartrum, Bartrum, Bartrum

I was thinking Bart too, I think Colin was talking about the Coach.

I would like to see Chris on the team, I think he would thrive on the atmosphere of this type of exhibition.

Hard work and discipline is choosing competing with the most elite over bonding. Shane could have gone to the All Japan Championships and if he had done so, he'd have been more likely to arrive in Blackpool in his top form.

I think a lot of the lag problem could be down to the European players simply feeling more comfortable and controlling their nerves better. With how quick that table was playing it looked super easy to twitch slightly and over or under hit your lag.

The US's main problem was they missed more easy shots, made more mistakes and didn't convert some of the tougher chances that came their way. Europe did.

I agree, but that doesn't make every decision a correct one. I think Mark let personal feelings influence the selection process. I'm not saying we would win but choosing Schmidt and not even looking at MD deserves some skepticism. I'm not a MD hugger but I am aware of our Best players. I think Mark is great but the player selection is a little hard to understand .

So are many run outs, but you Have to commit, make a decision and go with it thats how we all learn in life, under fire. Pool players are constantly adjusting and trying new things in games and life looking for loopholes :) shortcuts and easier patterns. I'm sure Mark learned a TON of stuff not to do, and to do for next year. Can't wait to hear what Barry Hearn has to say next week. I did enjoy this year more than last X2.

Anyone ever try to herd and train cats? :eek:If so, that's what its like when your trying to get a bunch of pool hustlers together, they are usually all on their own agenda, which is theeeeeeeeee dentical mindset of OUR USA billiard industry. They way it appears to me, we did find a couple players that are starting to get it, and life which pool parallels in all ways.
This past week for the first time, the WPA and major industry players stopped CW from ''prostituting'' the word World Championship wording/meaning etc, just to fill his own pockets, which is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo typical of people with zero INTEGRITY and the ''what's in it for me'' and the me me attitude that has devolved the game to where were now at.
That's how I see it.

or not.

Stu, it is unknowable. Maybe he would have gone over there and gotten some bad fugu and that would have been the story of him.

so much
wild speculation

They clearly didn't work on the lag, and their shooting didn't show many signs of guys in form, so it's speculation only that suggests they prepared well.

But they had a green beret. That alone speaks volumes about where they were coming from.

oh yeah. #1 practice drill for next year's US MC team: the lag.

Lou Figueroa
will someone please
make a note of that

We shall never know, now shall we. Certainly, we all would have all bet large that he was "more likely" to have played better today, regardless. And we would have been wrong.
