Mark Wilson To Change Face of Mosconi Cup

No matter what Mark does, it can't be as worse than last year. Only 2 wins and very little team commradary.

If that were true, which I don't believe it's correct, then explain how Earl is now in the World Cup which is produced by the same people as the Mosconi Cup. There are people suspended, but it's not Earl. Earl has always been a big draw for them.

Good point. ;)

It wasn't just Earl. From what I have heard quite a bit of it could have been cured by a combination of self discipline and leadership.

I certainly hope they do better next time than this go around. That being said if i had to bet now i wouldn't bet on the american team. Would you?

How does that square with the other thread saying Earl will be playing with Shane in the World Cup of Pool, which is also put on by Matchroom? My guess is that they love him in these events, all the while feigning disappointment in his bad behavior.

Hate to say it but this post makes perfect sense.

Strickland, who cannot moderate his own behavior in front of the cameras, is the poster boy for unprofessional behavior in competition and also at the Mosconi Cup.

He must have a friend somewhere, and it must be Matchroom, for he has not earned the World Cup of Pool invitation through either his play or his behavior.

At the Derby, though he played well in bank pool, his two efforts in rotation pool were not cashing in the ten ball and getting just to Round six in 9-ball.

It is certainly not his form that earned Earl this invitation and his behavior is a continuing embarrassment to American pool.

This is politics, plain and simple, and if Matchroom loves Earl, it's bad news for the American pool fan. If he's on our next Mosconi Cup team, I'll root for Europe.

Earl Strickland is my favorite player on earth except in the team format...His self destructing mode is one of my least favorite things because it's really no different than giving up weight to someone. As far as Neil's comments I would rather not respond because I have seen others get in arguments with him and it doesn't seem worth it. People that say Dennis Hatch can't play won't get any of my energy because it just a ridiculous statement.... I will agree that Mark can't do any worse that we did in 2013. I'm just not sure about the young player theory, but who am I to question him, I just want to win:-).

No point arguing with someone that is as uniformed as you are. Also, if you bother to actually read what I said, I never said Hatch wasn't a good player. I said he probably won't be playing in any matchroom events any time soon. Two different things.

If not politics, then just business. Perhaps I'm a little cynical but my suspicion is if they love him it's because he's not good for the US Team. Let's face it, what's good for Europe is probably what's good for Matchroom. That's what they are playing to, the TV money and the fan base over there. Giving them an American they can rally around to hate apparently is good for business. People are people wherever they are and apparently they also are attracted by the chance to see a train wreck.

As good a theory as any. Earl is Team Europe's ace in the hole.

Earl's Facebook announcement made it sound like Shane picked him as a partner (for World Cup). So did Shane choose Earl, or did Matchroom?

Thanks for the PM Neil, that certainly puts things in a different light:-). Also I know it wasn't you bashing Hatch. As far as the other stuff I think keeping it in the PM area is the right thing to do....My sincere apology sir:-)

I wouldn't be surprised if they both picked him. Matchroom just invested quite a bit of money in making a full documentary on Earl, released just before the last Mosconi Cup. Matchroom let Earl infect the 2013 Mosconi team at the expense of Team USA, and is letting him infect the World Cup of Pool event this year.

I'm going on record right now that the team of Shane and Earl will not even reach the semis at the World Cup of Pool.

Truth is that the reason for Earl's selection doesn't matter now, but if Shane somehow maneuvers to pick Earl for the Mosconi, it will set American pool back yet another year.
