Mark Wilson's New Book

......... I only hope that there is another book in Mark's future.

Doug,
Hmmm.....another book.....VERY hard to imagine that.

Mark neatly wrote down every bit of information that he gleaned (during his 40 years in pool) onto tablet paper. It filled 8-10 big Hammermill paper boxes. He insisted that EVERYTHING that wasn't already in another pool book be included in this book. It took him 20 years to winnow it down to a usable form (and me 6 years and many thousands of hours).

Bad news = I'm betting against another book.
Good news = This book is a truly unique gift to the pool community.

Better news = Mark is now going to apply some substantial effort towards improving the image and popularity of the sport through his program at Lindenwood, and a very new and unique approach to the Mosconi Cup.

Congrats to Mark on being named the captain of the Cup, good things should come from this. And thanks again for the book...slowly absorbing it.

Mark and Don (if you'll permit me) have done an excellent job in putting this book together. You'll will not be disappointed. I only hope that there is another book in Mark's future.

Lol I was talking to Mark about this last Sunday. His reply was "If you place 1 million dollars on the table right now........I might do it, but my heart wouldn't be in it!"

Mark and Don put so much work into this book that I can totally understand that answer.

Maybe someday that will change, who knows.

I received the book a few days ago and must say it's the best book on pool I've ever seen. I have a library of around 100 books on the subject and none come close IMHO. Mark and Don obviously left it all out there with this one. I've only scratched the surface but can say that I'm going to be studying this book for a very long time. Well done Gentlemen!

After perusing this thread, I broke down and bought the book. I've spent a lot of money on pool stuff this month, so I had it sent to my office instead of home.

I'm looking forward to reading it.

I got my book about two weeks ago. Thumbed through it and got too busy to really sit down with it.

Well last night I played my worst pool in recent memory. Couldn't make a shot and just lost my confidence at the table like never before.

Tonight I decided to start my education.

I didn't get past the basic stance. Compared my stance to what was in the book and mine was, lets say, a little different. My fundamentals are usually fairly good but lately I haven't been able to see the shot right in front of me.

Well I copied the stance in the book. Seemed awkward at first. Four hours later I was falling into it much easier and the balls were dropping like I was 20.

Don't want to get too far ahead of myself but so far just the stance adjustment alone has been helpful. More work to do to ensure consistency but this is off to a very good start.

I too had got away from the basics over the years. After the first 3 chapters I'm making balls better (center pocket) and can play for hours now with no back problems. Thanks Mark and good luck with the MC Team. Johnnyt

Interesting. I spent some time working on the stance and it tired my back out quickly. I'm going to keep trying but with my back, I don't think I can achieve the exact stance that he shows.

It took one week for me to get it. It came in just a cardboard box, and the book's corners were crushed a bit. I don't know if Mark reads AZ but there are better soft packages for books that he should consider. The book itself is beautifully bound and it's a shame to receive it in other than perfect condition.

Some books (e.g., Byrne) focus on ball mechanics like throw, others (e.g., Capelle) on strategy and thinking at the table. This is the best book I've seen that really focuses on stroke mechanics: stance, grip, alignment, etc. His philosophy is that, although not all or even most pro players have an orthodox shooting setup, most players would benefit from using them because they provide the path of least resistance to an accurate stroke. If your feet and your body and your eyes are lined up properly, it will be easier to accurately send the ball where you want it to go. You can do it if you're not lined up properly, but it will take you longer.

A great book that complements other books very well.

I received the book today. Took 20 days for Asia countries like Singapore.

I am SO amazed at the quality of the content. Truly the best book. I have no regrets. I might take.the next few years to digest the book. Probably another 10 to practice...

The wrapping should be improved as some parts of the book were crushed.

Overall the 100 dollar cost for overseas buyer is worth it as shipping to my country took 33 bucks

As Mark says in the book...you can be more upright if need be. Johnnyt

People that have purchased this great book should also receive an electronic version of the book as well. This way we can upload it to our kindle or ipad to take to the pool room without risking damage to the actual book. A book this nice I would like to keep on the shelf as part of my collection and read it through other electronic means. Anyone else agree with this statement?

Same thing happened with mine... it wasn't wrecked or anything, just dinged up a bit.
He's probably got a lot on his plate right this second
but I hope he tries a more sturdy package for future orders.

I'm still plowing my way through it, this thing is DENSE.

I have chronic back problems but oddly enough it actually relieved some pressure on my back! My shoulder wasn't as happy about the change as my back was. My left arm took a while to adjust to the changes I had made.

Don't get me wrong, the stance wasn't uncomfortable for me, it's just that I have done it a certain way for 25 years and my body wasn't accustomed to the change. But now, it's second nature and feels very natural.

It will get better.

I suppose an electronic version would be convenient for those with kindles or iPads, but I don't see any compelling argument that the book must have an electronic version available.

I don't understand why you're concerned about damaging a book but not about damaging your high-priced electronics... shouldn't that be the other way around? I have books that are 100 years old and are still held together nicely. I dropped my phone once and it hasn't been the same since.

I hope I can work on it tonight but realistically it will be tomorrow night before I can do anything.

I wish we had a forum just to discuss the book. There are certain things I would like to bounce off of other people who are using the book but I wasn't sure how much of it should be discussed openly. Not that it's a big secret but it wouldn't be fair to Mark or Don or even others who have paid for the book.

Today I am finishing up Chapter 3 for the 3rd time. I'm trying to read it during my lunch break but I keep getting interrupted. I have poor reading comprehension, my mind wanders constantly while I am reading so I have to force myself to reading things over and over to really get it.

School was a pain for me!

I think that's a good idea. I see that the forums have "social groups." Can the messages between the group members private or can anyone read them?
