Marriage proposal in the poolroom

Thanks SDE that is indeed the secret to a happy marriage. I've only had to say FU once to my husband and would you beleive it was over something that happened to me in a pool tournament???
Anyway thanks for the tips, I'll post after the big event.

He should bring her in, get a table, and start playing. Slip the ring/box into the ball return/rack area and scratch, forcing her to retrieve the cue ball and in the process, find the ring. If they want it to be more "private", he could do it without anyone else knowing at the time. To be more public, they can set it up in advance so others in the room are paying attention at the big moment.

Have the bartender make an announcement like "I need all the ladies in the room who are not married or engaged to come up to the bar for a minute......When she starts to move toward the bar, he says "Uhhh, Sandy...you need to talk to Tom first!"

Okay Guys,

No No No, you do NOT want the would-be fiancee to "find" the ring. I'm sorry, but 21 years ago my hubby ASKED me OUT RIGHT. Finding the ring feels like a "cop out", if you ask me. The word "wimpy" comes to mind. If you want the woman to marry you, you have to ask for it. Unless she asks first, which my sister did, and now they're divorced, but that's another story.

Be THE MAN. Play some pool, feel for the right time, THEN ASK HER!!!

One idea that comes to mind is one of those programmable signs which have the bright red lights for lettering on a black background. I have seen small ones inside of pubs, advertising the scuttlebutt of the day. You may be able to borrow one or even justify buying one. It makes for good conversation if you maintain an update the information. I think you can make explosive type graphics with them as well.

You're quite the romantic..... imo

When the couple arrives at the poolroom, have the owner/desk man announce Free pool for engaged couples. The 'potential groom' states loudly, "now, THAT'S what I've been waiting for", drops to one knee, whips out the ring and asks her to marry him.....

Brilliant! I would go for this one...

I like the one where she walks in the door and at the end or side of one pool table are 10 or more friends, in groups of 2, standing shoulder-to-shoulder 5 deep with their cuesticks. Each couple should be about a foot apart from the pair in front of them.

As she watches, the front pair turns and faces each other while taking a step backwards and raising their cues to form a V'd arch overhead. Then the next pair does it and so on until the last pair step aside and it reveals her boyfriend, down on one knee holding the open ring box. Then she has to walk under the arch of cues to get to him. Sigh... :p

And if you need wedding ideas IN the poolroom, well we did it and it was fun! This picture is not from our wedding, but thought you might enjoy it.

Couldnt agree more. This is not an event where the man should be a passive participant.

And it was 21 years ago today that he asked... in front of his whole family!

My proposal was= We had been playing house for a year or so when one morning she asked, "Are you ever going to marry me?"
"You want to get married, get your hat and draws on and lets go do it," I responded.

That was over 40 years ago and we're still married, have four kids, and are still very much in love. I don't think how you say it means as much as what you do and say after you get married. Johnnyt

Ahhhh... the Sixties.... :)

Good for you and congrats!

She said YES!
So my friend Dave decided on Johhnyt's box idea. (We should've known a guy who has been married 40 years would know something about romance!). I found a brown box around 12x12 that something had been mailed in for Christmas and used the original UPS label. On top of the label I addressed it to Cassidy in care of the Golden Cue and my address. Today Dave brought me the ring so I put it in the box with a note from him asking Cass to marry him. He had decided that I would give her the box right before our tournament started tonight.. So I taped up the box with the white label and it looked really authentic. The return address said Power Sales Advertising.
I went out to dinner (because the tournament didn't start for and hour and a half) and came back so we could put the plan in motion. Because this secret wasn't well kept, (and there was the tournament) many people were there to watch the engagement unfold. I saw Dave in the parking lot when I drove up and said "are you ready?" and he was. I went behind the bar picked up the package, asked my husband to hold off on calling the tournament tables and walked across the room to Cass with the box. I told her that I had entered her name in the poolrooms favorite customer contest and her name won and here was the package that came UPS.
She actually wanted to put the box down and go get her camera. She wasn't a bit surprised to win a favorite customer contest. LOL! She is so funny! Her friend ran and got her camera for her and started taking pictures. So we walked around the corner with the box and most everyone turned to watch--I think that made her nervous. She called Dave over to see her prize and started to open the package. I gave her a pair of scissors to open the packing tape and when she saw the note inside that said "WILL YOU MARRY ME?" she dropped (yes, dropped ) the box and ran to Dave--crying. She cried so hard, (for 5 minutes). I whispered in Dave ear...is she happy??? He said "yes".
Honestly she never got to the ring box inside and I think that bodes well for the young lovers...
Dave, Cass, myself and a few others went outside where it was quiet and she gave her answer again...YES! And then she opened the ring box to see a beautiful round 1/2 ct diamond which Dave put on her finger.
And all the while the photos were popping. That was really cool, how many people get photos of their engagements? And they turned out really good.
It was a really sweet moment and I felt honored to be a part of it. Thank you all for your wonderful ideas. Romance is alive and well in the poolroom!
