Hi,
Here is a cue I recently built for Bob Blose who designed his custom cue and was in my shop on Mondays for the last 3 months hand picking the woods, designing the inlay placement and overseeing the work during the entire build. Bob has his own woodworking shop where he creates some off the wall furniture and artistic wall sculptures from exotic wood combos. So he felt right at home in my shop.
When offered to spend Mondays in the shop during the build, he could not resist the chance to get some hands on lathe time while making saw dust on some of the components of his cue. Stew was also there every Monday and Bob learned a lot of history concerning cue making. We all have a lot of fun hanging out in the shop and Stew and I gained a new very good friend. Bob has the addiction now me thinks. LOL
Bob is a very experienced and skilled player who ran over 100 balls in straight pool in his teens prior to attending college before he was shipped off to Viet Nam in the day. A lot of mornings spent learning straight pool with Dallas in Rockford over coffee.
Today Bob's love for the game is very strong and he wanted a new custom cue built to his exact weight and balance specs. When I told him he could also direct the inlay design work on his cue to his own tastes, he was all in with his attentions to detail.
At the beginning of the process, we talked about having his initials on the cue but decided on a more subtle monogram to be added to the butt cap of this cue. You see, Bob is a Master in Martial Arts and recently attained his 4th Degree Black Belt at the age of 65 after spending over 16 years in the dojo mastering his physical and mental skills required to attain this status. An awesome accomplishment indeed. When I saw the 4 bars on his black belt, I knew what to do to make this a very special cue for him.
Thanks for looking,
Rick
From the veneer stack, wood combo, 30 stitch sterling silver rings, wrap choice, shaft taper & size, weight & balance, ivory inlays and layout to the subtle abalone dots, Bob had it his way with his cue. Cue is shown with only one shaft here but there were two made for this cue.
