Matchroom, Rasson Tables, and US Open 9ball

For me it is less about playability of the table and more about not using a U.S. based company for the U.S. Open championship. In my opinion the gold standard is Diamond and they should be used for the U.S. Open.
Totally agree. Thing is $$$$$ talks, loudly. Unless Greg outbids Rasson i don't see Diamond's being used.

I just hope they use the Intercontinental 66 Artemis cushions. The new world standard would be nice. Those cushions in the WPA event, didn't react properly at times. Biado was shaking his head on one. I heard they were the 55 rails. boooooooooo

Now

A pro cut diamond is tighter than a triple shimmed GC table setup for one pocket. How that became the standard table for 9 ball is nuts.

Match room has it right going with a table with bigger pockets and proper rail bounce.

Long live match room. Long live rasson. And maybe with pool seeming to pick up globally the past couple of years, Brunswick will wishfully enter back into the tournament scene.

Now if we could get the PGA to make the holes bigger so more long putts and more holes in one could be made. That would really be great for TV.

Of course this is a terrible analogy since the USGA and R&A have maintained the size of the hole, unlike the BCA and WPA which have been powerless in setting a standard.

Which table?

I would like to see an American made table for the U.S. Open. I also think big pockets and 9 Ball are easy for those top tier shooters.

As far as watching on TV goes, who watches pool on TV? I would like to know what channel it is on.

I agree with Corey's OP.

Also MGM's comment.

While Corey realizes the need for an easier table for TV the US Open should be played on a more challenging table.

And MGM simply puts US made tables at the US Open !

So my conclusion is the Rasson table used for MC arena was way too easy.

B players might B n R alot on that kind of track !!!

"The INTENATIONAL 9Ball Championship will have Diamonds.

To me this event will always be the nations real gem.

Size

Of course this is a terrible analogy since the USGA and R&A have maintained the size of the hole, unlike the BCA and WPA which have been powerless in setting a standard.

I have witnessed too many professional matches in person on Diamond tables with pro cut pockets where they run out pretty much with ease. To say open the pockets up because it will be more fun makes no sense.

In related news, Matchroom have announced that Aramith and Simonis will be the ball and cloth suppliers for the US Open.

How about Artemis cushions? Nothing changes a table more than having different cushions.
It was confirmed on here that Rasson has recently changed to Kleber/Klematch cushions for their tables to be used for these events, and not Artemis. I assume that means they'll be one of the sponsors as well.

It's sad....not setting a cushion standard. The cup size and cut is the same in the PGA.

FACT!

Just got my account set up to sell Rasson and that is what my rep told me!

P59 Klematch will be better than Artemis Pool 66 for sure!

Not sure a company using a cushion on their production tables would force anyone to sponsor, but, it could. Felice confirmed that Simonis is the US distributor for Klematch. I hope its a good fit.

Matchroom have just announced that Diamond will be the official table of the US Open 9-Ball. I heard about this earlier at the Diamond factory tour last week. Diamond will provide 34 tables. They have only one day to set the tables up which was probably a show stopper for any other manufacturer.

I think this is good news for the players.

Yes, but every golf course is different!

I know lol. I worked my youth maintaining golf courses. Cup setting, green aerating, lots of digging and sod and??? anything to do with trees/dirt/water or sand. One summer at the Playboy Club Golf Course the members were complaining about the sand traps. We removed, MANY to make the members happier.

Every pool table in every pool room plays a little different. Dirt/humidity/cloth wear/rail type and so many more variables like golfing.

That's excellent news. How many racks does it take Simonis cloth to wear in?
I think the HR cloth is quicker for that if they use it but it may well be irrelevant. Diamond tables arrive at the venue covered already and sometimes they have been used elsewhere.

I feel that the slippery new cloth is usually to the advantage of the better players because they get more chances to play on it.
