Matchroom/U.S. Open is leaving Atlantic City

I grew up outside of Corpus Christi. It's nearly as hot and way more humid than San Antonio and Austin, but it does usually have a breeze coming off of the Gulf. There are a couple convention centers that are close to the airport that would likely work pretty well.

I live in Austin and would say I think San Antonio would be a better choice. The Riverwalk area has multiple convention centers, hotels and creature comforts in the downtown area and is only like 10 miles from the airport. I like to think that it would get picked for that alone.

El Paso would be an interesting choice albeit a long drive for me.

from what i saw in san antonio this weekend theres endless construction around the outter loop , its ugly and i10 is everyones worst nightmare

Haven't been to SA in a couple months but I'll take your word for it. I-35 in Austin is ridiculous for construction at the moment and I'd almost rather drive in rush hour traffic in Houston than drive on I-35. It's bad enough in Austin that I don't get on 35 unless I absolutely have to.

i went to jays new action spot, and jay said the same thing austin and 35 are a nightmare also lol
 
E/West TX interstates 10 and interstate 30, getting thru the major cities on these Interstates, in the day is a joke.
90% of the large rigs use these, and there's Always construction going on.
On My way back from Houston to CO I got as far as Fairfield x197..... Dallas was about 140 more miles north.....Next, I then headed West thru Waco towards Stephenville. Cut up hwy 281 north, avoided Dallas/Ft. Worth and came out in Wichita Falls, saved me an easy 1-2 hrs.
Forgot the old TX state hwys are thee BEST.
3 lane for passing then two lane, Very FEW semis, and everyone's going 80mph+.
I felt allot safer and Not one traffic jam.

I think Matchroom wants a location that spectators want to go to for something other than pool. That's why Orlando works for them. It's also why Atlantic City is no longer going to be a venue. There may also have been a cost issue in AC -- I can't imagine Harrah's giving anyone a good deal.

On the other hand, DCC at the Horseshoe is only about the players and a few serious die-hards. A week plus on the beautiful Indiana Riviera in the middle of winter and nowhere is not a problem.
 
Your right bob, and Vegas is exactly the opposite.

I think somewhere in the interior, has to be the week after the Fleming event would be perfect since FL has International flights.
The second venue, fly whatever airline you like from FLA to the US Open. Two weeks on the road is perfect, I know this, I did it for two years straight. Two weeks out/two weeks home.... and this timeframe is perfect for the Open. And they could hire the best US refs and save on travel expenses for all from over the pond.
 
I just don't want it back in Las Vegas, which has become a cliche at this point and a damned expensive one at that.
 
It’s not going back to Vegas. Never heard Frazer say much good about it.

Keep in mind the Battle of the Bull could become a way station from the Florida Open to the U.S. Open. That’s what happened this year and it worked well.

What's in Orlando for adults to do? Orlando is not a destination unless you're going to Disney and pool players are not wandering around Disney without their kids and they're not bringing their kids to the US Open
 
If there was a place in Nashville close to all the bars it might work. Otherwise casinos are the only place that will work.
