I'm still here. We did not attend the DCC, though. I enjoyed reading all of the wonderful trip reports and updates. Seeing Diana Hoppe's pictures was a real treat too! :)

In recent times, Keith has taken a liking to Internet poker, ever since he returned from Reno. He really enjoys it, mainly because he's won a couple nice chunks of change. I thought I was a better card player than Keith, but actually Keith is a better gambler than me, and his gambling expertise has really been an asset to him on the Hold 'em game. :D

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away....

Yeah. I can't stand that casino hullabaloo either. Walking and walking and walking like a mountain goat, and begging the casino pit bosses for a little meal ticket after you drop a heavy load. It's tough beating the casinos, and why are the majority of them all Italian?

The Internet poker, there's a lot of eggs on there, and if you happen to luck into a game with a bunch of eggs, you may get lucky and just win one, and there's no expenses involved to enter the tournaments. :p

I do think that a gambler who can play cards has a better edge in the Internet poker environment. Knowing how to play position is key, I have discovered.

Knowing how to play position is key, I have discovered. What do you mean by position? I think you mean where you sit at the table, but I'm not sure

I know that you didn't mean anything negative about Italians, but we are good looking!!;)

JAM,

I used to go to Las Vegas every year and i'd play in the pool tournaments at the Riviera and try and win a few bucks in the Casinos. I quickly found out that they don't like winners and if you can win consistently you are banned from the casino. What it amounts to is you are very welcome if you lose, but don't come back if you win more than once or twice. I've tried it all slots (worst bet in the house), blackjack, roulette, and even some craps and all I ever did was give them back anything I won and then proceed to lose some of my money to them. I quit going a couple of years ago and I haven't missed it because I always looked at it like I lost the amount of money to buy a very nice custom cue every time I went there so I decided to save my money and find a pool game every now and then for a few bucks where I have a chance to win versus Las Vegas where the odds are stacked against me.

on the Vegas topic, its getting worse, i'm banned from all the downtown joints, with single decks, i have beeen banned when i was stuck at the 4 queens, they could tell i was counting, Roy Futternick taught me how to play, anyone hear of him lately?, he played in Sacramento in the 70's and earily 80's. there is alot more to 21 than a +/- count, but the joints on the strip are cutting jobs and giving the players(suckers) worse odds than ever, 20 years ago there was a chance of a short score here and there now they want it all as fast as possible, that way they have less payroll etc to cover while you go bust. greed is going to kill vegas, there is no shot of winning and you lose faster, when people realize this vegas will suffer and the other joints will get more of the action that would have made it to Vegas, poker is also strong for 2 reasons, first the internet, second you can get alot more play on a dime in the poker room than anywhere else in the casino even if you cant play a lick

Actually, I agree that Italian gentleman are quite easy on the eyes. It is interesting that the majority of casino pit bosses are of Italian descent, and, yes, those pit bosses are always dressed to the nines! ;)

My most recent trip to Vegas, this past July to be exact, a motley crew consisting of pool players, poker players, and Vegas regulars dropped about 4 dimes in less than 10 minutes at the Venetian.

I just watched the fiasco from afar. Though I do not like slot machines, my aching and swollen feet were killing me from walking the casino floors. Our hotel room to the pool tournament room was at least a quarter mile each way, if not more. So I sat down at the penny slots, comforting my poor feet, while the others were throwing dice at the crap tables.

After the 4-dime loss, one of the committee members asked the pit boss for a meal comp, thinking that since he had dropped at least a dime of the 4 dimes, it would be worth a free meal. Nope, not in Vegas.

Interestingly, the other casinos I have frequented in Atlantic City and the Native American casinos treat their patrons quite differently. The comps are not as hard to come by.

I never did understand or like that whole comp system. To me, begging the pit bosses to get rated and then hoping they throw you a bone after you lose 4-figure monies is demeaning. It reminds me of standing in a welfare line, begging for a cheese slice, which isn't appealing.

Seems to be alot of poker players around here! The game has really taken off in the last five years or so, we play once or twice a week around my homestead, if I go play at friends or in the casino I could play every day if I wanted. The best part of poker is that you can learn for free, all you need is an internet connection. If you compare this to pool, in order to play at home you need cues, balls, a table, etc. You can easily be a few dimes in the hole before you stroke the first ball:( On top of all this pool isn't exactly a profitable business venture if you decide to take up the game seriously, it's not hard to see why poker has jumped into the mainstream while pool still struggles to get filler time on ESPN.

since online poker for now it donezo in the states, will be see some of Keith anytime soon? with a few new tours popping up in your guys areas, it would be great to see him in action. Would do nothing but good things for the state of pool in the Dc/Va/Md area.

Four year old thread? You'd be better off starting a new thread instead of "necroing" an old one.

I heard that Roy played once in a while at hardtimes in Sacramento. I heard that he was there a couple months ago.
