McDermott Vs. Mezz

I am using a Mcdermott cue and like it. But since I have heard many good stories about Mezz, I was wondering how those people who have ever tried both cues think about these two production cue makers.
No comparison! You could take the most expensive McD and it will not come close to the hit, feel or control you will get out of the cheapest mezz cue. Construction is without a doubt better in every aspect of a cue plus the extension bumper is way nice. Look at it any way you want and mezz is better!
so you mean the qualities of M have been gone down?
Mezz has a custom cue feel in a production cue. The joint is almost seamless you can run your fingers across the joint and barely feel anything. The McDermott seems to hit a little softer.. I would go with a cheap Mezz before I go for a high end McDermott.
i agree wholeheartedly!! for production cues, nothing beats the playability, engineering and quality of a mezz
I concur with Eric 100%. I owned a Mezz ZZ-09 with a WD700 shaft. It was too good to be true.
I have a Schon and it is a good cue, but on a different level. I also owned a McDermott D-13 back in 1990 and it was a good cue, but no where near the precision and quality that Miki Mezz has produced.
Mezz cues are absolutely flawless.

Mezz by far is the better playing cue. Their joint (wavy or united) is the best around. You won't find anything like it on any other cue (that is a good thing and a bad thing at the same time) They play great, it comes with a WD700 which is a very under rated shaft that plays just as good as any predator or ob shaft around and it comes on their lowest priced cue. Their Hybrid Alpha and Hybrid Pro 2 shafts I hear are pretty amazing as well. Their Irish linen wrap is one of the best feeling wraps I've ever felt on a production cue. Mezz cues have a very distinct hit sorta like people say "no other cue hit's like a Schon" Same can be said for Mezz. Comes with a Moori (m)tip. I personally like other tips much better then the Moori (think their tips are nothing like they used to be) it's still better then what some other companies give you stock on their cues.
The Bad: Their joint is like no other cue, so if you want to get a Predator or OB shaft you have to get it through them already fitted with the united or wavy joint if you want that tight snug fit. Their cue designs can be a little unconventional and may turn some people off who like standard points or traditional looking cues.
Conclusion: I'd buy a Mezz cue any day over a McDermott.

The comparison is almost a joke. Mezz all the way.
mezz cues play a little stiffer imo. i've only hit with 2 mcdermotts that i liked. just about every mezz i've used i've liked but to be honest i liked the puj shaft more than i did the WD700. i think that's just because i've grown away from using low deflection shafts. that could always change though. i'd be interested in trying a WD700 in a 12.8-13mm though
good for you that you got the Mezz.
That's a special order shaft. I have 1 of each... a WD700, Alpha and HP2 at 13mm. :thumbup:

diff comparision - low deflection to low deflection
Mcdermott did make the I-shafts, the mezz comes with low deflection shafts. shouldn't the Comparision be a mcdermott -with a pred. or i-shafts ,tiger shafts,or an OB shaft?? let me remember correctly , Jim Mcdermott, Bob Rundy, Terry Romine, Nubbs Wagner, and Bob Muecci all contributed to the old Mcdermott Cues. (thats Schon,Nova,muecci,mcdermott) 4 cue companys that sprung out of mcdermott. I have shot with 1 mezz,the blk and green entry model. The Pro's don't play with standard models-mezz. I do thing mcdermott has gone to china for shafts like many others. but the offer lifetime morri tips on there cues!!!!! Mezz cues are copies of what american cues ???? I do like products from JP mark

From what i hear the pros that do use mezz cues do use stock mezz cues
What is the difference between a wavy and a united joint? How do they compare to the standard 3/8 10 big pin feel of the McD?
