Mechanics... Diomond Tables

....... I don't care how any of you install it, I will continue to do it the right way....

Does this mean that you will be installing intercontinental cushions on pocket tables with the canvas facing down?

If so, what would be the advantage(s) of doing it that way?

I will be installing all cushins with the rounded side up no mater what the side the fabric is on.

Get over it Mark, just pay attention to what you do for work and stop worring about what me, or anyone else is doing to rails or tables, and you'll be a lot happier:D

It's not about who is doing what....it's about you telling everyone everything comes from you....which is bullshit.
The top machanics know the truth and that fine ....but you have beyond on here buffaloed to the max.
You think I care for one minute who's doing rail work....cause your so called the best.....and your not even close to me.
Now....that's right I said it.

Take the chellenge and leave everyone else out of it.... Just me and you mister know it all bullshiter.

Mark Gregory.

I get that much. It's the why part that I was more interested in.
Have you established a scientifically reasonable reason for wanting to do it this way?

I'm not suggesting that you are right or wrong, I'm just asking.
My friends and I pay very close attention to cushion performance and I personally think that (with the k55) you have more to gain or lose via the angle of mounting than you would by flipping them.

What angle do you recommend?

Quit crying Mark, I told you what we could do, and it's the whole damn table, not just the rails, I have several pool rooms to choose from, or do you want to just sit back and beat on your chest like Tarzan...LOL

For starters, I am by no means any kind of rail tech. I have not done reserch on the changes that occur when playing with rail heighth and angle.
Scientific, no Sir... To me it is just plain common sense, all of the tables that have the No66. rubber round side down do not bank like any other pool table. There is a funny hop and they bank a half diamond short when shooting one rail banks with speed. They also reverse of the second more than any table I have played on. I believe the balls being pinched between the bed and round cushin face is the problem. The Artemis K55 is the only cushin that I have ever seen with the fabric on the flat side. (excluding rubber with no rounded side) My first thought was they were selling 48" lenghts of thier carom rubber but in fact No.66 is 1/16 smaller on the top. For some reason carom rubber has the fabric on the bottom, the flat side and no one has ever given me a reason why. Do you know?
Did Artemis make a mistake? I bet we havn't heard the end of this.

maybe one your students may know something that we don't and can help us?

Mark Gregory

Why is it Glen's "students" get a bad rap? You've made plenty of comments like this that make it obvious you look down on us. The way I see it, I take enough pride in my trade and the job I do to seek out a better way to do it and not assume I already know everything like so many of the old school local hacks out there. I'm so sick of the "I've been doing this for 30 years" crowd. That's just not good enough for me. Mark, I believe you feel the same way, otherwise you wouldn't put the time, money and everything else into your R&D.

I went to Glen's Alsip meeting because I thought it was great that there was an opportunity like that to compare notes and learn a different, and hopefully better way of doing things. I didn't get paid for the work I did. None of us did. As a matter of fact, while other guys (who I won't call out) were taking advantage of the room owner paying for the hotels, I stayed two extra nights on my own dime to make sure the work was done while the majority of the rest of the guys had left for one reason or another. Why? Because I appreciate the opportunity to learn another way and because I do have an open mind and don't just assume I already know it all. Was I getting call backs and customer complaints before Alsip? Nope. Do I think my work is better now? Leaps and bounds.

I also spent 3 weeks riding around with Glen in his truck in 120 degree Vegas heat. Far from a vacation. Did I get paid enough to break even on my flight, time not working back home, time away from my wife and kids, etc? Not even close. Was it worth it? Absolutely. I learned a ton on that trip.

So yeah, you could say I'm a student of Glen's. But I've also learned a couple tips/tricks from talking to his brother Leo at the BCA Show last summer. I've attended Championship's Certification Training sessions, I bought the Simonis DVD's, I've learned from Bob and Pat, Jay, and many others. My point being, Mark, what the F*** is wrong with that? When have you offered to put on a seminar or invite guys willing to learn to your shop to teach them a thing or two? I realize you've worked with Bob, but beyond that, as much as I respect you and through any conversation I've ever had with you on the phone or otherwise, I've always had respect for you and your talent, you do have an "I know something you don't know" approach to what you do. I'm not saying I blame you. I've had people ask me to teach them some rail work. I've declined. It's not my place. I have local guys that can't cover a rail in worsted to save their lives. I don't volunteer to show them what they're doing wrong. That's food off my plate, so I get it. But I have a serious problem with talking down on me and others on here for trying to better my trade and going to a source willing to share his knowledge to do so. Drop the cock fight routine, show a little humility and remember we're ALL students of this game who can learn from each other.

My .02, and boom...drops the mic and walks away. :D

You can call Ed Hiller, the owner of Pro Tyme in Alsip where the seminar waa held, and ask him about his complaints after the tables were down at the seminar. Make sure you have time as it will be a looooong conversation.

The seminar was many years ago and only now we hear about "complaints"? I recall some of the guys went above and beyond fixing those tables - certainly beyond the focus of the seminar which was hands on experience with the 3M10 glue down technique as well as leveling done by Glen and rail recovering done by Jay. I'm sure some of us would love to hear about the complaints.

Josh.....first off I never brought you into this....you shouldn't knock old school or I've been doing this for 30 years.....cause your still learning.....and still have a ton more to go.......you have learned from glen....and hes a great mechanic.....but you guys think Glens the super star mechanic.

It's a pool table....that's all it is......and how many really care.

I will be the first to tell everyone....no one can do better cloth work than Glen...trust me check my past posts.....I'm not trying to be ugly to anyone....never did I say anything but great things about Glens work...(EVER)

We've been talking about rail work...that don't bring you in to that.....replacing cushions don't make you a rail guy.

Sure Glen helped you learn about tables.....that's not rail work that glen and Bobby and I do.

You don't know Glen like you think you do.....forget the ego shit.....none of this is about ego.....you guys are trying to make it out to be that way....to avoid the truth of what it's truly about. (Rails & Cushions)

Glen has helped me out in a lot of ways....never would I ever say different...but for the last 4 years with him....everything's his idea.....he did everything first.....he's going to do that next.
You have no idea of how many ideas I brought up to him....only to hear later how he came up with other new idea.
I didn't care....not once....until he put me on speaker and never told me I was on speaker phone.....pretty low thing to do to someone you thought was your friend.

When glen was at my house 3 months ago.....he checked my rail work and said he knew I did that kind of work......but I also showed him how I beef up the centennial and anniversary frames........a week later there's the pics on az with (HIS) new way of doing the frames.

Just gets old.....giving back to the industry is one thing......showing guys to learn cloth work...leveling....how to do table repairs...glue cushions...all that is great to help people with....and I've shown a lot of people.
Guys call me on the phone and tell me they just can't afford me....but could I help them out.....I spend the next hour on the phone giving them step by step on rail work.....trust me....you know nothing about me or who I am.

I have Brian White with me right now teaching him....leveling....cloth.....and rail work.....not only am I paying him well.....he lives in my area.
Don't jump on the Glen band wagon until you know me.... judge me on your own experience around me.
I never heard you ask me about anything...or I would have answer you on any question.

Trust me Glen.....you can do a Diamnod table better than me.....I won't get in to the reason...but you win that one for sure........but if you want to do any Brunswick table.....you got me.....and not just the bed cloth....you put a great act on.....but I've gotten to know you and your work......trust me none of us are as good as we think.......and your not even close.

Quit crying Mark, you gve yourselve to much credit for some of the things you do, like I've never braced a GC frame before I was at your shop....LMAO that's old news buddy, was doing that long before I even knew who you were, and even showed that on AZ long ago.

If you stop sucking on your thumb for a while, the feelings will come back into it.

Ed made you well aware of all the problems with the tables. No he didn't have one bad word about Simonis. He was less than thrilled when all the table seams popped and he had the newly recovered tables had to be redone. He was also particularly fond of all the tiger stripes under the rails. But hey don't take my word for it call him as and ask him. He's opening a new hall now, is he having you do his tables??

My comments have nothing to do with the previous condition of the tables only the AFTER conditions/playabilty. Go call Ed.... if he'll answer your call lol.

Guess you don't know Ed all fhat well, have spoken with him many times after the seminar. Were you at the seminar?
