Mechanics Directory Change

I'm thinking we can expand the mechanics directory to add a link to your pics and references.
As an example see jzmechanix listing in the mechanics directorydirectory under Indiana.
This gives you the opportunity to provide kind of a portfolio of your work without viewers having to search for it.

We can do ONE link to your pics page, bio page or however you want to set it up or call it.
No links to front door pages of retail sites. What you use should be along the lines of
"here's some pictures of my work and local references".

Here's an example of a good page that shows a mechanics before/after work -
http://billiardmechanix.com/BeforeandAfter2.aspx
I might add that a little bit of content describing the pics on this page would help
the person viewing it (hint - think about someone that knows squat about tables).

Can do links to photobucket type stuff or a web page if you have one.
You can also use your Blog feature here on AZB.

Send your link to me via PM ONLY and I'll add it to your directory listing.
Note that I'll let you know if there may be a problem with your submission.

That's an outstanding idea Rick...now if I only had a web page:o

excellent use of resources.
perhaps you should change the directory thread title to something along the lines of ' table mechanic directory and portfolios ' or whatever

Google pool table mechanic and the AZ directory comes up #3. Free advertising doesn't get any cheaper folks.
If you have a website setup a page to show some of your work. If not use the blog tool here and load some pics. Most importantly make sure your name and number is shown.

On another issue I'd like some opinions concerning names listed in the directory that never post at all on the forum. Should they stay or go?

Thoughts?

This is a great idea, Rick. I personally think since you're doing so much to promote the guys on this list, we should keep it to active members. I know there was someone you discovered a while back whose name and number were submitted by a friend. If you found out about that one, could there be others that don't belong there?

Just my $0.02 but I think the directory should be for regularly participating mechanics in the board. Like it was mentioned before, it is good "free" advertising, but the mechanics that do participate here are sort of paying for it so to speak. The ones that do not ever post any information are really getting it for free.

I agree 100% with Zach!

Love the idea Rick. Very nice. I disagree with keeping this a members only club. This should be for anyone who wants to participate.

I would tend to agree with your opinion but consider the list was intended solely as a resource directory. Unfortunately we have some names listed of people we know nothing about. Whether they do proper work is TBD and I question if this is a dis-service to viewers. Tried to shine it up using color codes as a prop for those that actively participated in the forum and now adding a link opportunity so those interested can showcase their work. Makes it a bit easier for a viewer rather then having to search thru threads, posts and pics.

Need some additional comments and opinions guys.

"Participate" is the keyword. We have people listed that at one time asked to be added to the directory - then never heard from again and we know nothing about them or their work. This is not to say everyone listed has to make a post every day. Maybe going forward we should require at least a minimum of participation before being added to the directory.

Dartman started the directory i think you should mantain it how ever you want to. Link to pics is excellent idea i will need to get a couple worthy jobs soon so i can take some as i rarely do.

Well I'd like to have it acceptable to the members but more importantly - meaningful to members (and non-members that find the listing when doing a search).

Putting previous emphasis on forum participation was a decent idea at the time but knowing what I know about peoples forum search habits it was probably asking a lot. I've already done some remodeling to the directory starting with Chris and JZ links and think this is the better direction to follow. Those that are interested in providing easy access to information about themselves or their business in the directory have a free opportunity to do so.

What about doing a 2 part list? The top section of the list will be for those who are around all the time and contribute, and the bottom for the others. Some what like you have already done with the color coding, but a little more separation.

pictures

I like the ideal rick. I am so busy i do not get a chance to get on here much, anymore. I will post some pictures soon. it has been a while for me. Thanks, Ron:wink:

To those of you that have already posted work pics - I know this is asking you to do a little extra but having your portfolio in one place is much better then hoping peeps will bounce around the forum to look for your posts and pics. Put this on your short list of things to do soon.

Here's an excellent example of using your AZB Blog area as a place to post your pics, references, info, etc -
http://forums.azbilliards.com/blog.php?u=2975

Adding contact info and service area at the start of each blog post as well as a short descriptive caption with each pic makes it a great portfolio.
To be perfect, add names/numbers of 5 or 6 references - just be sure to get the ok from these folks to use them as references.
