Well from what I read Chris Melling got through Q School and is now a Legit Pro Snooker player. Big congrats to him and as long as he can play well he just got a pay raise.

Good luck to Mr. Melling. I hope to see his unique cue action on tv very soon!

One of the best cue actions I have witnessed and a nice guy to boot.I met him at the 9-ball qualifiers in Cardiff in 2004 and practised on the table next to him and Tony Drago for most of the day and it was a great experience. He has been a pro snooker player previously and used to play with his pool cue which had an 8mm tip which would have hampered him. i think he now uses a normal snooker cue which will definitely increase his chances of doing well. I remember he qualified to go to the last 64 and Evgeny Stalev also qualified but he was in another league if not another dimension :-)

He had one year he made 80k when he won the China Open pocketing 40k. Outside of that year he will probably do better in snooker. JT

I highly doubt he will only play snooker ,, he is the first to be a 8,9 and snooker pro
He can play in all of them ,

This is wonderful news. I recall predicting that none of Corey, Alex or Chris would qualify but on this occasion it feels great to be wrong.

Good luck to Chris against the big boys at the next level.

Evgeny Stalev qualifying in snooker? Wow, although that raises eyebrows, I can see why, when he thumps those huge Pyramid balls into pockets that allow only 2mm clearance on either side of the ball!

I might have been one of those with too much scepticism about his chances to go through. Maybe I forgot he had done this before.

In the end, he did it with style, and ease.

I would really hope he continues to play pool as well, and I see no reason why not to. To earn real money out of the snooker pro tour is not a piece of cake.

Even though the money in pool is smaller, Melling has shown he can do both, and he is certainly able to challenge anyone in pool as well.

Top Snooker players...

Like Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Selby and others new they were destined to win championships in their teens. Guys in their 20's and 30's may grab a piece of the action here and there but for the most part are over the hill.:grin-square:

Sean, you must have misread the post, I think it was about World POOL Championship in Cardiff he's talking about. Stalev rarely tried snooker as his father wasn't of high opinion about this game (must be due to pure arrogance). And, once again, pocket jaws on pyramid tables are soft so the real pocket size is a bit deceiving ;) They are "widened" by strong hits.

bflad, thanks for the heads-up! Chris The Magician Melling is a snooker pro? Sounds great, now I hope he manages to perform well at PTCs and probably qualifies to TV stages of other events! Could be amazing to watch his snooker game and also wish him big money earned. Twice as important as now snooker ranking list is based on money rather than points.

I have known Chris for about 13/14 years now and knew him well in those years when he was dabbling at all three disciplines (E8B, 9 ball and snooker).

I feel now, as I did then, that he needs to pick one and concentrate on it. You can't expect anyone to be elite standard at all three at the same time.

In order for Chris to be successful at snooker I feel he must turn his back on pool - for the time being.

Yeah, I agree. It was OK trying to play all 3 when he was younger, but if he wants to make a real good living out of playing snooker, I would hope that he would leave pool alone for now.

I do not think he will have a lot of time in any case as their are so many tournaments on the calendar now.

Good luck to him.
