Meucci factory seconds

Even if the only flaw is completely cosmetic? I'd have no problem with playing a cue with unsmooth inlays and think it's better for a manufacturer to not trash the wood and materials, or try to just put them on the shelves as their "quality" work and instead sell them as seconds. Now if the defect makes it play crappy, that definitely shouldn't make it to the public.

You have a good point. I'm on the fence now.

I'm a fan of Meucci but I don't believe any manufacturer should sell seconds.

I agree with you completely nothing could be more true. The quality of Meucci cues has declined to very point in the past 10 years. I use to be a dealer for them, I would buy $1000 to $2000 of cues wholesale at a time. But around 2004 the cues I were receiving were so bad that I had to return around 30% of my order for replacement, which took from 2 to 6 months so I stopped selling they product.

I have seen cues that actually had second stamped under the clear coat. Some of the cues were obviously flawed and some were not to bad and some were straight up junk.

But in the end I have to agree with the other posts that most Meucci Cues made today should be marked as seconds, and that is a shame!!:frown:

Hey there Dela,

I have thououghly enjoyed red repping each other. You are one of the most polite red reppers out there and it's been a total pleasure.

Thanks and regards,
Hung

Been quite some time since I've gotten (or given) the red square.... No hard feelings here...

what does a factory 1st look like?

They are stored in a very small vault in the sub-basement of Area 51.
The average Joe will never actually hold a Meucci factory first, I think there are less than (10) ten in existence.
The factory second is the closest thing any of us will ever get to a 1st quality Meucci.
The one I picked up used is straight (believe it or not) but I think it is a factory 2nd squared, so it's actually an authentic factory 4th.
If the factory second as shown on Ebay is an authentic Meucci factory second I would buy it, however I suspect it is a 2nd squared or even cubed,
which would make it an authentic Meucci factory 8th.

I agree. A company interested in quality would destroy those products that don't meet specs.

I've seen many Meucci's locally that I suspected we're seconds but weren't marked. However, I do have a Meucci Original that hits a ton. I'm about to pack it up and send to Mike Erwin for a refinish.

If I were Bob Meucci, I would start producing a "Classic" series with exactly the same specs as the Meucci Originals.

Meucci must have liked you a lot more than they liked us Craig. Our last order of Meucci's had 23 out of 24 that were so warped the ferrule would be 1/4 inch off the cloth when rolling it. When we returned them, they accidentally forgot to send us a refund check.....EVER. They also sent all of our cues that we returned to a dealer in St. Charles who never ordered them and asked them to make an offer. Those were strange days indeed in Meucci's history. We were also cussed out by their service manager for rushing them on a repair because we called 6 months after a due date for having a butt cap replaced. Everyone knows that takes at least a year to fix.

What a shame a company that had the biggest name in cues fell so far.

Time to revive this thread...

I purchased a Meucci Original on eBay a few days ago and it arrived today. It's a fairly plain cue but it's in great shape and I paid a very reasonable price for it. I put it together this afternoon and ran a couple of racks with it. It has a great feel and hits dead solid. Quite frankly, the shaft feels better to me than any of the modern LD shafts.

I'm seriously thinking about installing a Moori III and making it my main shooter. I think Meuci needs to seriously consider returning to their original design.

And hence the mystique of the Meucci Original continues.

I have one and it is a great cue, a real shooter. I will have more when I am in the position to buy. That was a prominent era...the Meucci craze...

Watch that ferrule though. They are thin and known to crack.

Enjoy the cue! :)
