Mexicans playing pool

lol, damn, I go to play poker and get back to find this. Listen, here is the deal, I don't give a rat's ass whether these guys are private contractors, employess of mine, indentured servants, serfs, clowns, or pool hustlers. I played them for some money in a pool game that they agreed to. If they are mad now and don't want to manicure my yard or if they want to put round up out next week, then I will simply hire someone else, maybe another team of illegals.

And if that new team says something about pool and I overhear it then I might play them too. The point is that I wasn't bragging about winning $50. I was just telling a humorous story. I just won $700 in one of my weekly poker games and my attorney was one of the players. I guess I should give him back the money he lost to me when I quartered him up in that big hand of Omaha hi/lo.

As for nifty9er or whatever his name is, I think this should tell you all you need to know

So I get home yesterday and a team of Mexicans were cutting my grass. I went outside to pay them and I overhear them talking about shooting pool. I told them that I play pool and I would play one of them for the grass cutting money. I was only paying them $50 anyway. After speaking a few bars of spanish one of them tells me that he will play.

I told them to finish up, it looked like they were almost done with the weed-eating and I would be back outside in a few minutes. This would give me time to grab a bite to eat, play briefly with my daughter, and take a dump.

So I get back outside and they are loading their gear on the back of their regular cab '81 toyota. I asked,"are we gonna play?". Miguel, the one that was gonna play said, "si", lol, actually he said yes, but in my mind he said "si". They said we could play at the Mexican billiard place. I didn't even know our area had such a thing, but sure enough it was a neat little place with 2 bar boxes. The front of the building had a big 8-ball on it with "Billar" written in big graffiti.

Anyway, to make a long story short, we played 8-ball for $25 a game. I won the first two games and they quit. Im not sure if they will make the same deal next week.

A little too much information here. How did your dump go? Was it smooth and long or short and fat? Did it come out clean or messy? The pool world wants to know.

By the way, let us know if they ever come back to cut your grass. I wouldn't exactly call this your best move ever. At best they will be looking for a way to get even with you.

If I'm in that spot and I win, I will pay them anyway and laugh about the pool game.

Jay, you had an online run in with nifty9er, would you have any advice for corvette, who is in an online beef with nifty himself right now?

So you steal $50 of hard earned money from either struggling immigrants or illegal immigrants that work for you and your family and you are proud of that? Once you found out you were actually stealing you should have given them the money back. It is people like you I bar from my pool room and have in the past. You think it is funny, I think it is pathetic. You do not hustle people that work for you. You certainly add to the bad reputation of pool. You set a great example. Are you really so proud of yourself you have to post that on this forum.
By the way did you deduct S.S. and workmens comp payments?

And for all you people that might disagree with this, remember these were people that "works for him".

This time I am in agreement with nfty9er. It's just a bad move all around.

lol, two of them are 65 years old and the other two are about 4 feet tall. I'm 6'2' and they have cut my grass for 3 summers now. They also cut the grass at my dad's business and my uncle's business. Getting my ass beat was never in the equation.

6'2" doesn't mean much if 10 of them come at you at once. I'd be careful if I were you.
MULLY
hope your bushes are still there next week

Every situation is different. In my case, I was falsely accused of fixing a tournament. That is a bit more serious than what happened with Vette. To me, he is in a gray area, whether or not to gamble with someone who works for you. My experience has been this is a bad move.

I won't even gamble with my customers. Unless it's of the social kind for small stakes. I have found that once you start to gamble with people it changes the nature of your relationship. Friends can become enemies. And loyal employees can become thieves.

John,

Shutting down the demand is exactly what I want to see.

I understand why the illegals do what they do. However I also have known many legal immigrants and people working here legally. All that I have known resented the illegals who cut the corners to come here and didn't go to the efforts that they had so that they could be here legally.

As I mentioned, there should be immigration and temporary worker programs to get people needed into the country legally. Then the workers would have the legal protection of US law. Illegal immigrants get a raw deal, cost everyone but their employers a ridiculous amount of money, and send much of the moneys back home that they earn. One reason that Mexico will not cooperate to reduce illegal immigrants to the US and have indeed published guides to crossing the border, illegal workers represent a 15 billion dollar a year export for Mexico. That is the amount of money they send back to Mexico every year.

Bottom line, we could save the US, state and local economies many billions of dollars a year if we provided an avenue for legal workers while shutting down all illegal immigration. We can't track every illegal immigrant, we can track every person who has a business license.

As another plus, if we stopped the flow of people whose only crime is cutting corners seeking a better life, then an armed border and shooting dope smugglers and terrorists trying to cross the border would be quite reasonable.

Hu

Can this ever be a reality?

G.W.'s lax immigration policies lead me to believe that illegal labor is too important to Corporate America, especially the farming and construction industries, for there to be any substantial change. If we woke up tomorrow, and all businesses suddenly employed 100% legal labor at a fair market price, they'd just have another excuse to raise the price of goods on us without raising wages.

I don't think the political or corporate elite really care about the US economy. Corporations are essentially self-contained countries, and what matters is the bottom line, and employing cheap, illegal labor that's "off the books" creates the illusion of more profit, which increases the company's stock value.

I don't think we'll see legit labor in the context you're discussing anytime soon.

i agree it wasnt probably wasnt very cool to beat the gardners out of the $$$, but I wasnt there and perhaps they ha fun and didnt mind, so I'm gonna remain kinda neutral on this one, Vette is smart enough to make sure he had happy customers after they got robbed, perhaps next week they will bring Morro their Primo(Cousin) from LA and jack the bet.

Whats worse here(this thread) is to think the Mexicans are gonna come back in force and cause problems or not work as hard next week. That wont happen 99% of the time, Mexican people are to proud to do things like that, Manuel who lives on my estate is an amazing man and busts his ass like nobody should, David my head janitor at my business for the past 10 years got the 3rd highest Christmas bonus because of his hard work, loyalty and honesty. I'm a white boy and I trust the Mexicans(not gang members) more than white boys. Until I was 12 I lived with migrant farm workers from when I was 4 to 12 every summer, I have spent a just short year of my life in Mexico. Thinking this way about the people who work the hardest is just terrible. I've seen it too many years of my life.

GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT HIRING OR NOT HIRING ILLEGALS. I AM TALKING ABOUT BRAGGING ABOUT STEALING FROM SOMEBODY WHO WORKS FOR YOU. YOU ARE A FRIGGING $%^$ WHO CANNOT READ OR COMPREHEND.

Then why all the other crap, why can't you just say in plain simple terms, "Why are you bragging about stealing from someone you hired to do a job for you."

Then this is my retort...

He isn't, he was giving you background on a guy he bet $25 dollars a rack with. He happened to be hispanic and was also mowing and trimming his lawn earlier in the day. He paid the man $50 dollars and then asked if he wanted to bet that $50 he just earned in a game of pool for $25 a rack. Pretty innocent if you ask me. Also he had already paid for services and probably asked for the game after the team of landscape workers were paid and finished with the job. Hence after their employment was terminated.

I am not trying to piss you off, but to me it seems like there isn't anything morally wrong, again we have differing opinions but that is how most things are. Arguing with you has been fun :) thanks.

The voice of reason. FINALLY!!!!!!!

(a little TMI, but its good. LOL)

I think vette knew he had the nuts gambling with these guys. Not a very classy move to take their money. And then to say you are just trying to get back some of your hard earned tax dollars, that is wasted on these guys, is absurd. If you are going to make an argument about illegal immigration... don't be part of the problem. Because then your opinion doesn't hold much water, imo of course.

Jay now that you showed up I don't expect to hear from nfty9er again considering how he split town after the ownage you gave him in the the thread vette posted.

Corvette, You should apologise.

I have received multiple complaints regarding your choices of words.

It comes off as very derogatory and is contrary to the forum rules.

lol, these guys have a lawn care business. They don't just work for me and probably have 50 or more customers. I simply overheard them talking about pool and asked if they wanted to play. It is the same as if I would have heard them talking at a bar or something. Basically some of you are acting like Mexicans can't be adults and make their own decisions on how they want to spend their money.

who am I appologizing to? and for what words? If I offended anyone I'll appologize, but I'd like to know for what.

Why does he have to apologize? He heard them talking about pool and asked if they wanted to shoot. He didn't hold a gun to their head and make them shoot. What the hell is wrong with that? Isn't it exactly the same thing as if he had been in a pool hall overhearing them and asking them to shoot, whether or not they cut his grass? What if those same individuals who cut his grass had been in the same pool hall with him at another table and he heard them talking?

They put up the money and lost the money willingly. No where did he say anything about them being illegals or anything like that until OTHER POSTERS brought up the illegals aspect or questioned hsi categorizing them as Mexican? Didn't anyone stop to think that maybe, just maybe, because he knows them from doing work for him, that he might KNOW they were mexican before questioning his use of the word 'Mexican'??!?!?!?

If the word "Mexican" is offensive, from now on please refer to me as Keith "Crawfish" , English-Irish American. Thanks. Hey, what if he'd have gotten beat? We wouldn't be having this conversation.

A Hispanic player once told me that they call the game "pool". I believe they attempt to hit the lowest numbered ball first and yes, all of the balls are planted on the diamonds around the table. I THINK they keep score of the points on the numbered balls as I see many of the players at my pool hall trying to carom into balls that I normally wouldn't go after and most of the time they opt for the higher numbered balls it seems.

They play the game with as many as 8 players in the game at one time. They haven't invited anyone else to play except the ones in their group. They don't play very well and I would feel badly taking advantage of them so I would kindly decline their offer if asked.

JoeyA

In Belize (next to Mexico and Guatemala) they call it "straight pool" - it's played just like rotation, except for freezing all the balls on the rails at the diamonds to begin.
