Mike Dechaine and the rack...?

For some players -- and I am *not* saying Mike Dechaine does this -- it is most definitely a move to object to the rack in an effort to rattle their opponents in a competition. Without naming names, I have witnessed many players do this.

The other day, I read something about Efren Reyes being the best one-pocket player in the world, yet he never plays one-pocket back in Philippines. I asked Keith if Efren is so great at one-pocket, why isn't he the best 9-ball player or 10-ball player in the world? Keith said that with Efren and himself, it all came down to the break. Each of them have weak breaks compared to the power breakers like Bustamante, et al.

Nobody wants to have to break a slug rack, which is why players examine the rack for cracks. Of course, after Joe Tucker's book, the players learned quickly how to utilize those cracks to their advantage. Thus, the rack-rigging mechanics were born, and the rest is history.

In professional sports, if pool wants to succeed, all high-profile competitions should have neutral rackers to avoid any implication of rigging racks.

I guess if your game isn't good enough to beat your opponent then you have to play mind games. isn't that what it comes down to.

Efrens break has always been terrible. I agree with Keith on that one.

I have watched Keith break and while it wasn't in the top group, it was 10 times better than Efren.

My Break DVD will be out soon. Keep your eyes open. And how dare you say I shark Earl. LOL. I was most def am defending myself from his tactics. This game is a tough one to win the fans over. Once you beat someone, they run off and tell the whole world they got sharked. Only the players who are winning keep their mouth shut and play pool. Maybe one day it'll change.

As far as The Hustlers, thank you all for the kind words. Let hope this goes to a second season and pool will move forward from it.

Best,
MD

I can't wait for the Break Video: it would be fantastic if there was a mailing list we could sign up on to notify us when it is available.

Nobody sharks Earl. It's impossible.....Only Earl sharks Earl.

I think you were just trying to help him get started.

Congrats on the show, and on your ability to change. You've taken more shit on this site than any pro over the last few years. Your attitude on and off the table has really changed for the better. Who ever got into your head should be commended.

I never thought I would say it, but I hope you get back on team USA this year.

I am glad someone finally noticed. Thank you.

Yeah I noticed a long time ago and go out of my to NOT watch. In my opiion a player your ability should not need to shark. That being said I do enjoy "The Hustlers " but then your not messing with the rack.

I know two things first hand about MD.

1 - He plays American Rotation

This tells me he is able to see the benefit of a new game and understand that real change is needed in order for pool to grow. OKC's local heroes should have been all over it but chose to abstain. Made no sense to me when they would have their expenses paid to a location they were headed to anyways.

2 - He has carried himself pretty damn well on this forum.

This tells me he could very possibly be a man with some character. But since I don't really know him I will leave it at that.

So from what little I know first hand about the man I will assume that he mentions the racks so many times because the rack was bad and should have been adjusted.

To call this man out like some of you have is ridiculous! Call out the SOBs gaffing the rack!

Don't want your rack questioned? Rack better! It is not THAT hard!

Ken

Yep, mike never admitted to the sharking by inspection. That's this forum's accusation. To me I understood him to be in the "Pro's need to rack better" camp.
Seeing that he is fading about 75% of you on the thread and doing some nice self-promotion, I plan to watch him more.
He is probably in opponents heads even more after the dual interpretation.

Mike,
You're rack riggin, nit picking, sharking on you're opponents rack really piss's alot of people off. You are a great player and lost my respect when you do these things. You should have to use the magic rack for all matchs with the breaker not being able to touch the rack at all. JMHO

Will your break video help me get my break speed from a measly 22 MPH up to 32 MPH????

Presents poorly.

The MainPlayer does not come across in a likable way for me. Who comes across in a likable way for me? Efren, SVB, Ko Pin,and a few others. Why is that? For the most part they let their cue do the talking.

Some pros are obsessed with the rack and want every advantage they can get away with. It is why I like a neutral racker on big tournaments. I believe Mike knows what he is doing with the rack, as does SVB and Corey and others.

Mike just looks bad doing it. He does shoot some pretty amazing pool and if he ever picks his game up a notch look out.

People can do the same thing and some just look better doing it. He looks like he would be fun to shoot with if you remember part of his game is to irritate you with his racking.

He even chalks the cue weird!

First off....chalks his cue weird might be the funniest criticism I have EVER heard! Thank you for that! LOL

Something to think about though...

The honest person is almost always labelled something other than honest until people learn that they really are just honest. And I am not talking about some fictional saint somewhere. Just folks who let it roll off the tongue straight out of the head! I don't know MD at all but it is possible he just says what he thinks. Maybe some think he is goofy....I am sure if all of us spoke what we thought we would be labeled as goofy as well!

Ken

side note: I typed labelled and labeled. Neither was tagged as misspelled. I googled it....both can be accepted. I hate words! ;)

You are doing a pretty good job on the show

Don't worry, his game is definitely top 10 in the states! The mind game really is just a matter of opinion. Mike is making sure he gets what he wants out of the rack and I don't blame him one bit.

Now, how about push after every break?!?!?! You will see a different game with a bunch of different players in the top 10!

I think, for the most part, MD does let his cue do the talking. I used to have the same opinion of him before I actually met him. Does he like to talk? Sure. Does he have a certain "air" about him? Yeah. But, once you talk to him, he's a funny guy and will talk about anything. And he's come a long way from when I first met/saw him. He's mellowed out quite a bit. Scott Frost is the same way. Everyone knows when Scott shows up in the building. Pool is great that way. Lots of characters and types. Some more "likeable" than others.

Take a look at those pros that are obsessed with the rack and racking/breaking. Take a look at what they have done and where their game is at. You can't knock them from being obsessed with one of the more important shots in rotational pool. Watch Shane practice the break for 7 hours. Corey the same way. Obviously they feel it's important to them and their game. Sure, neutral racking will help some. Same with putting the 9 on the spot. But, I guarantee you....they will figure that out too. Only a matter of time.

Lastly....I'm glad to see him chalk the way he does. Same with Dennis Orcollo. At least they aren't drilling holes in it ;)

I am glad someone finally noticed. Thank you.

proves saying something with a few words will have a bigger impact! great job !

I saw you bet cash at SBE on radar breaking gun you would get to 32mph and you did it!!
