In the last few years the MC team has been filled with "top pro" players, most of whom function only as individuals. They have no "team mindset", and no ability to function as said...and as a team performed poorly. Last years USA team, with very few exceptions, was a national embarrassment. Now, with Mark, there is a chance to turn around that mindset, and put the team members attitude and behavior above reproach. Understand?

Just remember, you read it here first. This time around, SVB will feel like the top dog and the leader whereas in the past, while he may have been the best player, he was possibly intimidated (and embarrassed) by older team mates strong and aggressive personalities. He will dominate his games and inspire his team mates to play above themselves.

Mike has played on the Mosconi Cup team twice (2011 and 2012), has participated in 11 matches, as has the following record (wins - losses):
2011 -- 1-1 in singles, 0-2 in doubles, 0-1 in the team match, for a total of 1-4
2012 -- 0-2 in singles, 1-2 in doubles, 1-0 in the team match, for a total of 2-4
Combined -- 1-3 in singles, 1-4 in doubles, 1-1 in team matches, for a total of 3-8

actually, everything THEWHIFFER said, is an understatement.
as for Buddy's role, we were behind the scenes 3 times/day in the Players' Room & Media Room, and not once, did i see him. he was on the sidelines (because of his hoveround) 2+/- hrs/day. i don't know if he helped Johnny every morning with the lineup. i think it was more of an honorary-thing, for which AZBers helped raise >$3K donations.
Even though it's not the same thing I have found this to be true playing on teams in state for Valley/BCA. I have been on teams with great chemistry + solid shooting and we won state once, and I got 2nd with another team. I have also been with an overall better shooting team, but they were as individuals...they did not help to keep a person's spirit up after they lost and then upped their own game. They were too concerned with their own performance, not the team (not saying Team USA does this)...but some teams with great chemistry can rise to the occasion it seems in lots of games/sports.
That's good for Mike. I'm glad to see he's turning things around. Everyone should also remember he's still relatively young and he's a product of pool. And pool hasn't been the best role model for these players in the last 30 years. No excuses, just facts..
On the other hand, his lack of selection to the MC IMO has nothing to do with his poor performance during his rookie year. Everyone knows he's one of the best up and coming players out there. No, his cocky attitude, poor behavior and inability to be a great team member must be why Mark Wilson didn't select him.
If Mike was a guy that everyone loved and looked up to I'm sure Mark Wilson would have looked beyond his poor performance during his rookie year and selected him because this guy flat out has fire power...no question.
I for one am glad Mark Wilson is leading a grass roots effort to change things for the better and support his decisions 100%.
I'm sure Mike Dechaine will have his chances on future Mosconi Cup competitions..

Mike Dechaine is a good guy with enormous talent from whom we can expect to see great things going long into the future.
He's young, he is extremely competitive (that's a good thing, right?), and, yes, emotions have got the best of him on occasion.
With that said, like many young people, MD is a work in progress and I am confident that he will be just fine.

I agree, I don't know where the harshness is coming from towards Johnny.
I've said this before, but give Mark and the process a chance. It can't be any worse than last year. We are already seeing a different process with the team building exercise in San Diego. As for Johnny, Mike, and others, they are great players and how they respond to the setback of not being one of the eight could ultimately help with the competition for next year's MC and improve our chances.

If you've watched the 2012 Mosconi Cup you might come away with a better understanding of why Mark might have left Mike off the team. I very much like Mike Dechaine but he really did lay and egg the last time he was on the team. That could explain it.
On the other hand SVB's never done well in the Mosconi Cup either. Things that make you go hummmmm!

worth keeping in mind is that while MD may not have done well at Mosconi Cup, it was his first in that pressure cooker environment.\\
Now that he has one under his belt, it's logical that he could (should) do much better at his next one.

I'll bet a large amount that this years team does better than last years.... (seriously though, I will bet)
SVB's Mosconi Cup record is 9-9 in singles, 8-8 in doubles, and 3-4 in teams. So he is 20-21 overall. Not great, not awful.
