Mike Sigel forfeit in World 14-1 - Matchtime changed from 1 to 11...

Match

Superstar,

That is a very good plan, but I think it would be overkill.

Think about it. Tournaments happen all the time, all over the world and you just don't hear about this kind of thing happening. Your system would fix the problem, but it really should not be needed.

I have a couple of friends there who were planning on watching that match at 1:00, only to find out that it had been moved. They were in the room, and did not know about the change until Mike got upset.

If a TD Changes the times of a match it should only be after he has spoken with both affected players. Period! If he can't reach the players, then he should not change the time. Period!

So, you are there? Did this really happen?

I have never understood why it is problems with the schedule. I have organized lots of tournaments, and before the tournament starts I have decided what time and what table EACH match will be played on. No need to re-schedule.

As for Charlie not being TD at Dragon Promotions events: he has his thumb on everything DP related. It looks to me like he tries to weed out the players he doesn't like or he knows can beat him. Something like this would never happen to Charlie at one of HIS tournaments. Many times, including non-DP events, he's much later than the fifteen minutes given before a forfeit is called. Time stops for him.

I agree with you 100%. But apparently in this case and others, it did not happen that way.

We always end up playing the blame game, and that simply should not happen.
This way, it ENSURES that both the TD tells the player, and the player receives the information regarding the time change.

I would rather have a system that eliminates any questions whatsoever instead of allowing things like this to continue.

If that's saying that players are incompetent, or the TD is incompetent, or the promoters are incompetent, so be it. Cause as long as this happens, SOMEONE is guilty of being incompetent, but we are never really sure of who.

Personally, i would like to assign some blame so the people that are responsible are dealt with appropriately so it doesn't happen at all.

You've got to start somewhere and a "World Championship" might be the place, you know?

I just don't understand this. It's not that difficult to run a smooth tournament, provided you have the right people involved. This is becoming far too common at Mr. Williams' events. Something just seems fishy!

Agreed.

Regardless of who is running, or directing, the tournaments, it is more than ironic that this has happened at 2 of "his" tournaments in a row.

While we don't know the whole story, it is becoming a theme.

Panda out.

This is a huge disappointment if it's true. When I saw that Sigel had beaten Hohmann and had gone 5-2 in the preliminary round I figured he must be playing well, and I was really looking forward to seeing how he did against Danny. I hope we can get the straight scoop about what happened.

I suspect the start times for the matches were dependent on matches finishing on time.

90 minutes for these Pros seems appropriate enough time for a race to 100. But, I also know that it only takes a few SLOW matches to screw up the start times and table assignments.

Today's matches are 16 matches up to the final 16 players race to 150 and the match length is 2 hours.

Tomorrow's matches are for the final 16 players and the race is to 200 with a time limit of 2.5 hours starting at 1130am

Posting Table times and opponents shouldn't be that difficult to keep updated and posted. Players are responsible for checking. If anything changes after it is posted, it SHOULD be the TD's responsibility to inform the players.

Not only his thumb:eek: Johnnyt

Someone with as many world championships as Mike Sigel does not fvck up match times, period. Card's not in the deck, IMO. It's the equivalent to Tiger forgetting his putter at home before starting the masters, or something.

I dunno about anyone else... I'm starting to see a pattern with this. I'm assuming Mike's right until someone proves otherwise.

Danny was there ready to play. I wonder what the hell happened.

you don't say, a pool player with a little power that doesn't act professionally and responsibly. I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED IT. Really, what a surprise.

Schmidt said he thought it was a 1:00 match for Sigel when he had looked at it earlier, too.

Sigel just left and didn't come back.

About 1:15 they announced the forfeit.

What about the part where Mike chose not to play even though he was there a couple minutes early? If he didn't have time to go get his stick then certainly he could have borrowed a stick.
