Mike Webb or Darrin Hill

never had a Webb,but i hear very good things about them.i have several Hills and they are the nuts.for the price of a used Hill,there is no one out there who makes a better cue.fit and finish is perfect and excellent playability.

I'll let someone who has played with a Hill respond to his cues because admittedly I have not, however you can't go wrong with Mike. I have one and already have plans for a second.
They play fantastic and best of all, they are extremely consistant.

My current playing cue of the last week has been Piggy Banks Darrin Hill cue. It plays great, looks great and Darrin is only about an hour and a half from me. He makes a great cue with a very firm hit. Deacon
 
Webb

I will put money the Webb Has a much more durable finish :)
Will try & post a video sometime this week (Some of the local Guy's know what I am talking about.:D

My honest opinion of the two .. and I've owned both ... I like the look of the Hill cues, especially because I'm a big fan of wrapless cues and exotic woods.

But for me, I sold my Hill cue and still have my Mike Webb cue. I'm not all that crazy about the *look* of the Webb cue (my only beef is with the inlays as they are not sharp) but I play very well with the cue. His shaft looks like a typical white-washed shaft (not like my Sugartree with classic yellow look with sugar marks, high grain count and etc.) but I can't miss a ball with it.

My Webb cue is a radial pin cue and if I'm playing with any radial butt cues, I'd normally put the Webb shaft on it.

PLUS, Mr. Webb is super duper nice gentleman.

This is not to say Darrin's cue doesn't play good .. hell, I just lost out to a sniper trying to get another one recently.
 
if the Webb finish is better and more durable than the Hill,i have to get a Webb.Darrin's finish is probably one of the top 3 best i have had.
 
Darrin was a custom car painter in a former life, and he knows about high quality coatings and their application. He has also recently improved his finishes by swaping some secrets with Joel Hercek, so if you thought his finish was good before . . . it's even better now.
 
that is why i was in schock when someone said that Webb's is more durable.i have alway thought Darrin put on a great finish.
 
I think the Hill finish is as nice as any I've seen, but all my 'A' level playing friends think that the hit and playability of my Hill cues is at the top of the heap. The one that I have for sale is a tiny bit light for me, and a bit long, but given the chance I'm sure that I could play my best with it. It hits nice and stiff with a resonant "thunk" sound.

Another thing, I bought a Hill sneaky from Lenoxmjs here. That cue hits as well as anything I've ever picked up. Even though I have many cues, and it's just a rosewood sneaky, it's within a hair's breath of becomming my main playing cue. It's that good! I have another sneaky ordered from my favorite cuemaker, and I wish I could cancel, but it's too late now and I'll probably just sell it on arrival:rolleyes: ...Tom
 
i had a hill cue that i wasn't really impressed with. i didn't care too much for the taper. not to talk the cue or maker down i didn't regret buying it and i deffinetly intend to buy another. smaller tip and slightly different taper i guess the mushroomed moori tip i had on it didn't help
 
that 60" cue used to belong to me,and it is a great player.i have tried at least5-6 60" cues b/c i listened to the hype about taller people needing longer cues.i am 6'2" and i figured 60" would be just right from what i read.it is my opinion that most 60" cues will not play as well as the same cue in 57-58" length,but yours is the exception to the rule.the worst ones i tried were ones with just extra long shafts.i am glad to see darrin getting the respect he deserves.
 
I have never hit with a Hill cue. That being said,I play with a Webb,Scruggs,Black Creek and a White Butterfly. To me the Webb hits like the Scruggs sweeeeeet. I have to give the edge to the Scruggs, but it is close. That is not to demean the BC or the White, they hit very well. I am not going to compare my Black Boar AS-10 to the above (it is a world of its own.)

i think Darrin gears his cue sales toward players as they are all 12.75mm.not that all players use 12.75mm,but most do or even less than that.
 
I will start that I have never owned a Hill, but I have owned three of Mike Webb's cues and have one coming within the few days or so. Mike's work is top quality. The finish work on his cues is first class. The playability is incredible. Mike's cues hit like great and I would recommend anyone to order one of his cues. He is a great cue maker and a great guy on top of it.
 
My .02 cents

Mike Webb has my vote.......playability and consistancy.....finish and veneer......cue builder availability.....Webb has it all.

Not to mention he is one of the nicest and most integrity based person I have had the pleasure to meet and be friends with.

Myself & another AZr have seen Mike take one of his cues & Hit it off a edge of a Metal tool box with good force. It had no damage what so ever No scratch,Ding Or dent , No anything.
I was Floored the first time I saw Mike do this.
I am going to try & load a video later in the week showing that. I do not think that there is many makers cues that could with stand that . Never mind the finish, but the cue itself.

You should really try a WEBB.

I believe that may be his standard quality assurance stress test. It's incredible.

So are his cues and as has been said previously...he is a tremendous individual. I can't speak on the DH cues, but I can say, you won't be sorry in the least with a Webb.

I have never owned a Hill cue but i love the looks of them, with that said i HAVE owned at least 10 or more Webb cues and as everyone has said before me fantastic ,consistant, excellent to deal with and i will say Mike would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.......................
I am proud to know and am glad he can call me a friend ........:)
I have seen the "quality check" as someone spoke of earlier.........:eek:
