Minnesota Fats Autographed Collectables

Fats did use a stamp,my Grandma and Grandpa met him there in Nashville around 85,took a Polaroid of him that i saw but didnt see the signature,if i talk to them i will ask if they still have the sig.I also saw Fats stamp a table in a video,maybe it was one with him and Mosconi,he did it right on the felt of one of rails. :)

You might be getting closer to the truth here. Interesting that you chose to crop the recent photo of the red signature, to get rid of that red ("swipe") line underneath it. A little devious maybe.

I am a young man, and was never able to meet Mr. Wanderone. I do have a signed copy of his pocket billiards book with an inscription that I am quite certain is genuine. As the above postcard shows, Fats obviously learned to write at least a little. I have heard from many people that actual Fat's autographs are rare as he always used the stamp and seldom signed anything.

You know I don't mind you playing the all knowing pool God on here, and I can understand how you want to have a little following of people saying, "Oh Jay, please share a little piece of your pool wisdom with us". :rolleyes:

What I don't understand is your arrogance and your self imposed title of Forum police and world reknowned ability to read other people's minds and intentions.

You come on here and accuse me of trying to cheat everyone and call me a lier.

You don't know me but other people on here do. I have never cheated anyone and never will. I have been upfront on all my dealings here and everywhere and always will. But you feel you have the right to smear someone's reputation. I don't think you do.........

I think it's a low thing to do and in my mind that's makes you low.

The typical "make yourself big by making others small" mindset unfortunately will play with many on here and thats a shame.

In Jay's first post it looks to me like he was trying to help you out. Maybe your friend misinformed you about the autographs. Jay didn't say anything out of line until you said he was slinging bull****. Your over-reaction to his post is what started all the trash talking. This could have been a civil conversation.

That stings a little but it has some truth in it. I probably did over react and read more into it.

Maybe my skin needs to get a little thicker. I have worked hard to gain a good reputation and felt it was being attacked.

I apologize to Jay.

One thing I've noticed about Jay H. is that he says things very straight forwardly and plainly. You don't have to guess or read between the lines usually. He is a well known part of the pool world and has been for a long time. He has been criticized, disputed, called wrong, at times on this forum (a very small part of the time) and he doesn't really lose his cool, or play the 'I'm a big shot' card. He is still here posting (so he is not thin skinned), and most people like to hear his opinion...... Just don't talk politics with him.

Apology accepted Jeff. In my post #5 I was trying to point out what to me were obvious flaws in the "autographs". I made no reference to you whatsoever.

I don't consider myself anything but just another poster on here. I do enjoy talking "pool" with like minded people, since I've been around the game all my adult life. I am proud of my accomplishments in the pool world. I have worked hard for many years to bring good competition to many arenas. And report on it.

After posting on AZ for a year or so, I realized that I had valuable knowledge about an earlier era in pool to pass along to the current generation. Many of the things people like Freddie, Billy, Grady and myself talk about are not recorded anywhere, except on here. What I see us creating here is an oral history of the game. And that has value too.

I agree with you that sometimes I may over reach sometimes and try to read between the lines. Maybe it comes from all those years in pool rooms and card rooms, where you are always looking for a "read" on someone. I have been wrong more than once on here and I too apologized. Just the other day I tried to bring Brian Atchley back from the grave. :)

I think you are an honest man, and it takes a man to realize he may have made a mistake. Actually that last autograph on the post card may well be the real deal. If Fats were ever going to sign something by hand, it would be of a personal nature, probably to an old friend. Somewhere I have one photo of Fats and me together in Louisville at the Trade Show in the early 90's. On the back, he wrote "To Jay, Fats". That is the only time he ever called me anything other than The Little Man.

I am very proud that I was his Little Man for many years. He was something special! There won't ever be another one like him.

I realize I’m resurrecting a pretty old thread, but I came across this while researching the Minnesota Fats signature stamp that was discussed here.

Unfortunately, the old eBay images referenced in the thread are no longer available. Does anyone recognize this particular signature as the stamp that was being referred to? If anyone still has an independent example of the stamped signature for comparison, I’d really appreciate seeing it.

jeff you have been around here for a long time. no one thinks you are scamming but really all that knew fats knew his signatures were almost always a stamp. and if you knew him he took a long time to write anything as he was piss poor at it.

i would never buy one of his unless it was verified that he indeed signed it.

and i think paulie jansco had someone make the signature for him for his stamp.

but even having his stamp is something to remember him by as he did more for pool than anyone and was a real character.

and few know he gave money to almost all the broke pros that asked. and supported so many dogs, as he loved animals.

ill never forget him and of course the huge score i steered him into. and he said when we cut it up it was his biggest win in his life.
and probably the biggest score made by any pro pool player outside of detroit.

we had breakfast and he ate two large ones that were the size of four.

and the owner was overjoyed to pick up the tab.:)
 
I came across this current listing represented as a handwritten Minnesota Fats inscription. The seller states that it is not independently authenticated, so I’m not presenting it as a verified example.

What caught my attention is how similar portions of the handwriting appear to the signature/stamp in my sample. For those of you who knew Fats or saw him sign things, does this inscription look like his actual handwriting?

problem is with autographs. if they cant be verified they can also be counterfeit. so unless there is a perfect trail to the signature it is worthless.

not worth even looking at.

generally only worth something to the person it was signed for.

unless some real famous signature that is verified and associated with an item. like on a certain baseball .
