Okay, I've only got five to get things started. Anyone want to add a few or comment? lol

Maybe at the end of this we can actually have a somewhat constructive list?

Nahhh. :D

1) Completely forgetting to chalk

2) Crappy chalking

3) Crappy stroke

2) Glazing tip

4) Crappy chalk

5) Fast food grease fingerprints :D

(Edit - sp. Thanks Cornerman! lol)

#1 of all time your not hitting the center of the cue ball with the center of the tip

Hurried stroke
Inconsistent stroke
Out of control stroke
Hitting too far off center

#7 Your opponent spits on your tip when you are not watching.

(Not so common, though, but if you happen to play a supposed gentleman from New Orleans (won't mention his name), you better keep an eye on your tips.)

4) This is huge for me. When our owner switches chalks it gives me fits and my miscue rate goes up 1,000 percent.

------

6) Trying to hit with too much force, which magnifies any slight twitch during your stroke.. so that 2 tips of english becomes 4 tips aka miscue

7) Bad fundamentals that cause you to swerve mid-stroke instead of delivering straight forward and back

8) Trying way more sidespin than is necessary. You can get away with a lot before you get a miscue, but halfway between center-and-edge is a good sweet spot and more than that is usually uncalled for.

9) Inexperienced attempts at draw, where players think they need to hit super low, or try to swing too hard (leading to 6), or they jack up the butt end, or they think they need to dip the tip downward midstroke.

10) Masse/Jump attempts

Pulling up on your stroke because someone is standing to close behind you (because some well meaning teammates thought it would be funny to grab your cue while in stroke as a joke )

IMO a poor stroke is maybe 80% of miscues.....the rest are a mix of tip maintenance issues.

I miscued a lot when I used a hard tip, I then switch to medium tip and used bluediamond chalk, problem gone..:)

the top reason for miscueing in our room is bc someone licked their finger and wiped all the chalk off your tip. its a sneeky thing. its amazing the legnths we go to play this game. too much fun:canoodle::canoodle::canoodle::canoodle:

What an interesting coincidence. I just happened to be speaking with a "supposed" gentleman from the same area who will be doing some live stream voice commentary next week for four days at the SBE starting in a week from today.

You'll have to ask him about this while he's "On Air". lol

Or maybe they should call it "In Wire" these days. :D

dry weather (i will swear by that one)

bad, cheap chalk (that one too)

cue repair men "tapering" your tip to counteract mushrooming; ie the radius at the top of your tip is smaller than the radius of your ferrule (i will totally swear by this one too, and can explain why you'll miscue, perhaps that's another thread)

for now, all the other ones i can think of are stroke related and you should be able to fix those with practice and playing under pressure.

90% of my miscues are when I have a shot that needs half table draw or more draw that I can barely reach. Too lazy to walk 5 steps for the bridge or cue ex, I shoot it stretched across the table, watching the QB launch into the air for ten feet...followed by me bellowing F****************. Johnnyt
