Mitch Ellerman Ripped Off at Galveston Tournament

Maybe ever AZB Member needs to e-mail the list and ASK how this happened....?????

This is like the Phoenix Fiasco that happen to the Pros & Jay at the Shootout in Tempe!!!!

I have it from a credible source that the furniture is now residing in the home of one of the promoters of the event. Not too cool imo. He needs to do the right thing by Mitch. I think the other guy accepted a settlement.

Jay I didn't accept a settlement. I made a deal to sell my furniture before I left Galveston and that is what they are paying me. After some long conversations the past few days I can chalk it up to a miscommunication as to why it is taking this long to finish the deal.

One problem I see with the raffle they had was all the details weren't spelled out for everyone. The main detail that should have been spelled out is that the raffle was for the furniture sitting at the venue and there was no cash value or any other option to the winners. The winners needed to remove the furniture from the venue and transport it themselves.

I truely believe that if and when these promoters hold another event(I HOPE THEY DO) that alot of things will be done different. For a first go around with an event this size I think they did a good job and will attend their events in the future.

great information!

tactful emails please

For those that choose to write the promoters, please don't be overly aggressive. We do not know all the details so please don't jump to conclusions. A lot of people hope Taylor Road holds the Galveston tourney for many years to come, me included.

I'm willing to bet there's mitigating factors at play here and if they were all known to us posters from jump street, I assure you this thread would have gone far differently.

Be fair. Just sayin'.

I see Mitch every Tuesday at Kolby's, will see him tomorrow and will find out more.

It looks like BoraDriver has received exactly what he had bargained for, did not make a settlement and is happy with the results.

Hopefully, you will have a good report from Mitch tomorrow.

Things seem to be looking up.

Thanks for keeping us up to speed on Mitch's situation.

Looking forward to the next Taylor Road Production as well.

Joey, I would not say he is happy with the results but just a patience and understanding person, I believe he is still waiting to be paid on the deal he made. I do hope they do more tournaments with money as advertised, I did enjoy watching the tournament. Lets see what happens in the next couple of days, see if it is resolved by Monday.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaa? That is ridiculous- what -Is everyone supposed to show up in Galveston with a Step van or something?

Now this is a decision made by these great "businessmen" that had nothing to do with pool-No special knowledge needed at all. You just needed to arrange w Ashley to have one of it's distributors deliver the product from the nearest warehouse to the customer's (winner's) residence. The display furniture would be returned to wherever it came from. Afterall, Isnt that what furniture sellers do every day-deliver furniture?

I don't know about patience and understanding?

With a screen name like BoraDriver, he sounds like a guy that would just as well drive you into the ground as to look at you.

Ok, maybe he's got a little patience.

Read it again- He has received nothing.

Dave...This is not unusual for this kind of thing (a raffle for a product). Many times it is the same with a pool table. You win the table, you have to come take it apart and transport it yourself. This is exactly what happens when they sell 'floor model' tables at the BCA Expo. I bought one, had to arrange to have it picked up, and delivered from the Sands Convention Center to a private home in Chicago. I'm sure that was the deal with this furniture. It was a "take it with you when you win" deal. Whether or not that was promoted in the raffle information remains to be seen...but I'm not surprised to hear it was set up like that. The furniture was probably some stuff that had been sitting around a long time, and the local Ashley store wanted to get rid of it...so they offered it for the raffle, likely in exchange for advertising.

It make sense with the pool tables of course because they have to be there for the event and it only makes sense to sell them from there to save on the return transportation. It's a win win for the owner of the pool tables.

A raffle is quite a different story. It's obvious it was handled in an incorrect or at the very least in a manner that made it difficult on the winners or we wouldnt have this thread.

Well I will now wait to hear if Mitch get anything for siad item he won, besides a 1099 For 8 Grand he will own income tax on.

Sorry Lenny

But this is not the first or last Raffle Rip Off we have heard of. I never buy Raffle tickets or even 50/50 Juke box Raffles. From My experience they are mostly rigged. One place I know has a reputation for the Owner or Owner's wife to win their Raffle every time. Of course they are the ones drawing the number. The same owner uses very creative math when making pay outs from Tournaments. Now he is wondering why he doesn't draw a bigger crowd. In an other venue I am still waiting to get paid for a tournament series I won. I have pretty much written it off even if it burns my butt.

It seems to me Rip off is now a way of doing business in America. The Corporation offer the world in their advertisement and deliver crap. The public keeps buying into the Hype.

On the other side of the coin, I have donated services to Silent Auctions or raffles for non profit organizations. 90% of the time they are purchased but never used. The last one, I contacted the Deli Store owner who was in Charge and he told me they didn't even get the Prime Rib he donated after 2 months. If contacted I will do as promised, But I don't know who won the service.

Guys I guess I am going to Rant on, But things like this burn my butt. Last night in League we had a discussion about the Venue that ripped me off by not paying any of the promised amount. I willing to settle for $ 438 the winner's share of the $ 600 promised taking out the add on. But I am so Pissed I can no longer talk with the Idiot BS Artist who owns that Venue in a civil manner. My League Captain is taking up my case and will approach the Venue owner who wants our League Business. Bottom Line is no pay no play at your venue. I was 1st place and a team member was 3rd place so we have two on our 5 man team that got screwed. I am hoping this works because without the League Leverage I am screwed. In the case of Ashely Furniture there is no real leverage. I wish Mitch all the luck in the world in collecting.

I just spoke to Mitch and the issue is not resolved yet, but he said that it's "Slowly going to get there".

He also wanted to let people know that Ashley Furniture is NOT RESPONSIBLE in ANYWAY!

Mitch also confirmed that he knows exactly where the furniture is located and who is sitting on it everyday!

Come on, give us a name......is Mitch going to get compensated for the rental of his furniture.

The players got shorted money, boradriver and Mitch got shorted on their raffle. At least Galveston is being consistent.

Did you get paid yet?

Dear Ashley Furniture,

I'd like to apologize for the bad PR you've been receiving at AZB. You stepped up for the pool industry and gambled on being a main sponsor for a large new tournament in Galveston. I applaud you for this!

Apparently (and unfortunately) after you provided furniture for raffle, it was mismanaged and the raffle winners have been bearing the brunt of this as a result.

Subsequently, posters on this forum have jumped to conclusions and slammed your company, stating unwarranted negative things such as:

If I could retract these statements I would. Perhaps those that wrote these things will delete/amend their posts. It's extremely distressing that we, the very people that are so passionate about the incredible game of billiards, can at times be our own worst enemy. We are a protective bunch by nature and usually do a much better job of appreciating our sponsors.

I'd like to hope that we at AZ Billiards will see the injustice cast upon Ashley Furniture and make a genuine effort of amends. I've seen some truly heartwarming actions come from the good of the AZ Billiards community!

Thanks for listening.

Respectfully,

Matt Thompson

I've done my part, when will you do yours?
