Mitch Ellerman Ripped Off at Galveston Tournament

Its Monday and still nothing, spoke with Mitch and he is really just getting the run around. He did state that it was not Ashley Furniture. I also found out that the person with the furniture in their possession is Bobby Rone the VP, Bobby if your reading this, send Mitch his furniture or make him a good deal. Mitch is a good kid and does not deserve this, people payed money for those raffle tickets so to take the money and not give out prizes reflects badly upon the event.

Definitely not a good way to end this event. Does not bode well for the future of The Galveston Classic.

mr rone also is disrespecting all the people who purchased a raffle ticket !!

not cool mister.

Galveston Oh Galveston

Whoa Jay
I have been doing a bit of digging and here is what I was told.
The first lot of furniture was sold for a sum authorised by the winner. The purchaser did take a while to pay but all that has gone through and the raffle winner No1 has got his money.

The second lot (Mitch's prize) laid around the venue for a week and had to be removed to the home of one of the promoters because the venue wanted to use the space. Mitch was contacted and asked to either claim and remove it or alternatively give his permission for it to be sold off. Since it has been stored in the promoters house (taking up space) they have called the owner six times without response. This is how it was told to me and I have no reason to question this version of the story. Get it picked up or give the go ahead to sell it Mitch.

Ahhh.... there's always two sides to every story....

I feel bad for Mitch and want him to get his furniture or compensated. But when Bobby Rone was accused of something in this thread, I wondered what the other side of the story was because to throw his name in the mud without hearing his side was bothering me.

There still might be more to the story, tho. I will keep my popcorn out.

BTW, I own Ashley furniture and it's good furniture.... until you have to move and then you see just have fragile the pieces really are. :(

I am waiting on it too, I just know the facts are Mitch won a raffle for the furniture and has not received it and its in the possession of Bobby Rone, he expected it to be delivered I guess or given a fair offer on it. If I was at an event and won a raffle for some furniture and I flew in then it would make it pretty tough to get the stuff back home. Its too bad he could not just pick up the same set from another Ashley Furniture here in Arizona. I am sure this will all get resolved very soon and it appears boradriver got paid which is wonderful.

Nice Posting! You see the glass is half full but so many people on this Forum always see it as half empty.

I did receive a check today for the amount that was agreed upon before I left the Galveston event. I will post again when the funds clear just so everyone knows that my deal is done and complete.

Glad to hear, hope Mitch gets a cash offer because I doubt he is willing or able to get it from Texas to Arizona.

If this is true, Mitch owes one of the promoters a thank you for holding onto his furniture.

Now all Mitch has to do is to go pick up his furniture.
Or maybe he can get someone who wants to buy it to go pick it up. It sounds like the promoter has been generous in storing the furniture at his house.

When I saw the furniture at the tournament I assumed that if I won the furniture I would have to find a way to get it home. I've never heard of Ashley Furniture and just assumed that the furniture was donated as raffle prizes, kind of like any other raffle at a pool tournament, especially since it was on display. I wouldn't assume anything beyond that.

While it would be nice if the furniture could be picked up at any furniture outlet for Ashley, I am sure that was not implied, nor do I think it was remotely insinuated that the furniture would be shipped free of charge "anywhere in the world" as there were attendees from all over the world.

I am sure they did not say that the items would be shipped but they did not state anything about shipping the items I was told either. I think when you run a raffle you let buyers of tickets know details like that especially whether they need to be present to win or whatever it might be. I guess it could all be chalked up to the rafflers holding it assuming the winners would know they have to handle shipping and the winner thinking the raffler would handle shipping, what is that saying?, assuming makes an ass out of you and me. :o

So how is it Mitch got RIPPED OFF? I just don't see it.

If he has been contacted and told of the circumstances of the winning raffle (you have to pick it up). If Mitch had previously been made a cash offer for the furniture, the onus is in Mitch's court and the promoter has been unjustly maligned in this particular case.

Who in their right mind would travel hundreds of miles and buy a raffle ticket on heavy items like furniture, knowing that if you win you have to ship it back to your home. I know people who came out to L.A. from the Midwest (Chicago) and appeared on a television game show and won a complete set of kitchen appliances plus a washer and dryer. The items were shipped to their home free of charge.

That seems like the logical thing to do. Why should the expense of delivery be borne by the winner of a raffle? Thats seems unreasonable and very unfair to me. It's like charging the winner for winning. I still say uncool!

I would have asked if it included shipping if it wasn't specified.

Jay, you're talking about a television show. This is a pool tournament. Geeze.....
