Mitch Ellerman Ripped Off at Galveston Tournament

I believe he was offered something like $1000 which IMO is kind of low when you say the value is $8000, what was the value of your couches?

ok so Mitch didn't like the low offer he got. Did anyone tell him at that point he needed to come get his furniture? Not that you have to answer my questions, and believe me I hope thinks work out to Mitch's liking.

As one poster stated "Ashley furniture is real wood", well mitch has no furniture but it seems he did get the real wood so far.

Hey ! What about

Instead of bashing , we all instead focus on a solution! I don`t know mitch, but it seems he a great guy. So let figure this out.

What if we can find out what it will cost to ship his furniture out to AZ, to him.

And if affordable we can get start a fundraiser for him to pay for the cost of shipping. Then Mitch can do what he wants with the furniture once he has posession of it.

I`ll donate the the first 25.00 to this fund.

H.P.

PS . of course this is if his furniture is being held for him pending pickup or other arrangements.

A friend of mine won the poker table raffle. It took him well over a month to get his prize. However, his table could fit in the back seat of a mid sized sedan when folded. He thought he was going to get the real wood treatment for a while. I doubt seriously extra coats of varnish helps any.

So how is it Mitch got RIPPED OFF? I just don't see it.

If he has been contacted and told of the circumstances of the winning raffle (you have to pick it up). If Mitch had previously been made a cash offer for the furniture, the onus is in Mitch's court and the promoter has been unjustly maligned in this particular case.

Well Joey, he was getting the run around, as for delivery of the furniture I think they should have said winners are responsible to move items. I have been to tournaments where they say either the buyer needs to be present or does not need to be present. I know most people flew in there so being able to arrange the item brought to where you live is no easy task and not exactly cheap.

I am sure since they knew that it is why he was offered only $1000 for that set which he declined and said he just wanted the furniture or a reasonable offer. I am sure Mitch will get that since the winner of the couches got a reasonable deal. Lets just see what happens and if it is all made right which I feel at this point it will and hopefully sometime this week.

To be quite honest I did not have all the info, I just was told by Mitch he has been getting the run around about the furniture and was very unhappy about it. I am sure next time they do a raffle they will state winner has to handle shipping or something to that effect.

Imagine if you won a car with a value of $32,000 and I offered you $4000 cash instead and you had no way to afford the shipping of the vehicle because it is not necessarily a cheap transport, same with this dining room set.

I think if Mitch knew that he had to move the furniture before buying the raffle ticket he might not have bought a ticket or would know its his responsibility, he feels they should ship it to him or have Ashley just keep that set and give him a set locally to pick up. Curious as to how much it would cost to deliver it from Texas to Phoenix.

Sounds like Mitch should have taken the money, or his prize with him, or arranged to move his prize to his control to a storage place before he left town.

Ashley furniture

I bought an inexpensive genuine Asian hardwood TV stand from Ashley. Paid about $300. It arrived at the store and the box was beat. I accepted and got it home and if was damaged. Returned and got another one the following week, all OK. They still had the first one at the store I saw it.

Point being is that Ashley can send this out fairly easily. Why wouldn't they?

Jaden,
I don't know for a fact who is being given the run around. You, me and the rest of the forum is just sitting here getting bits and pieces of information that we don't know if it is correct or not. Hell, the two parties involved in the situation AREN'T EVEN POSTING HERE.[/B]

Some say that Mitch has been contacted several times and if that's true, it doesn't sound like the run around. A few different people made offers on BoraDriver's furniture and he took the best offer that was made. Mitch could have done that as well or he could go pick up his furniture.

People have mentioned that the furniture business have 400% markups. I don't know what you think is a reasonable offer but the bottom line is neither of the two parties are on here making a case or defending themselves and it seems that every piece of information that has been provided here is for the most part, in some way flawed.

This forum doesn't make for a good court house; only a good torture chamber for the plaintiff, the defendant as well as the spectators. :o

All of the arguments pro and con are becoming senseless.

Have any of the two parties ever posted on here in any thread? That point you are trying to make seems well, pointless.

There is a right and a wrong here. If one of the promoters from Galveston has the furniture IN HIS HOUSE - that is wrong. I don't see how anyone could try to twist it differently.

What would be right is if the Galveston promoter would reach out to Mitch instead of Mitch having to do the chasing, say I have your furniture in storage. The cost is $30 a month. I will hold it for one month. Either come and get it, ship it.....or forfeit it.

I don't see how anyone with any common sense could have held this raffle, with most participants being from out of state, and expect them to be able to drive home with their winnings. Arrangements should have been made beforehand to accomodate the winners.

Mitch could probably have this furniture shipped for about $400 if he searched for a carrier.

The markup on the furniture is of no consequence either. They didn't advertise the raffle as win $8,000 worth of furniture which is really like only winning $2,000

Since the furniture is now used as it is sitting in this man's house - standard price would be 40% of retail. Mitch should be offered $3,200.

Posters have said that Mitch has been contacted. Mitch should pay that $400 of shipping charge that you quoted and have his furniture picked up and sent to his house.

Since you make such great points, maybe, you should offer Mitch the $3200 you suggested minus the shipping charge of $400 and have the furniture shipped to your house.[/B]

Is there really any reason to hear from either party before passing judgment? Nahhh.

Next case please.

KK9 <-- thinks the whole forum judicial thing is way cool, and might be so effective that there will be no Galveston tourney next year that brought tons of dough into a depleted storm ravaged city

any new updates on either side of the story.

Hey boradriver, did the check clear ok?

BTW, if Ashley's responsibility had long ended, then the offer of $1000 came from the promotion company? If so, what if they have no need for the furniture? My point being, the onus should not be upon them to automatically fork over fair market value for something they may not want.

But I'd think it would be their responsibity to be forthright in disclosing it's a "you enter, you win, you transport".

First, I don't want the furniture so why would I offer Mitch $3200.

Second, the furniture is now used so I wouldn't want it even if I needed it.

Third, why would I offer to buy Mitch out when there is an obvious issue here and I might give Mitch the $3200 and not get my furniture. Just like he has not received it himself.

When did this Great Galveston event end - remind me how long it has been.

I will know within 5 days if the funds are good, but at this point I'm confident everything will be fine.

Here is the deal, Mitch won the raffle, the furniture should be shipped to him, majority of the people in this thread agree upon that. It should have been stated that the winner needed to remove it and ship it themselves, most raffles do tell you whether you need to be or don't have to be present to win along with other things.

I know Mitch is in the process of moving as of late and is very busy, when I spoke to him yesterday he just wants a fair cash deal or his furniture shipped to him. Either way I am sure it will get resolved and Mitch wont get screwed, boradriver was taken care of so perhaps Mitch and Bobby Rone need to communicate more on this all. If something is reached between them then I will post it here when it happens, until then I am just going to wait and see.

YOu suggested a good price for the furniture would be $3200. You should buy it. The furniture was STORED or did you miss that?

I don't know where the furniture is or who has it but if you are willing to pay $3200 for it, I will make find out if it has been used or stored. If it is stored and you are still willing to pay $3200 for it, I will find out who has it and where and negotiate your purchase and I will personally stand behind the sale.

Yeah, I think you should buy it for the $3200 but minus the $400 for shipping and you can take care of shipping.
