I was wondering, what is the most money you guys have played for and I’m not thinking of tournaments?

I'm a banger by most peoples standards of a Hustler.. LOL

Most I've ever played for was 500 dollar sets all night long. That was a long time ago (Danny K's actually) and both me and the guy I was playing were shaking like a leaf. Most I've ever won was a couple thousand in one night. (same night). Now that I'm a little older, I don't believe I'd get that nervous over 5 bills a set if I thought I could beat the game.

Problem is I dunno anybody that plays as bad as I do for that kinda money.. I'm sure I'd have no lack of volunteers on here though. ;) :D

bet 200 on a rack of nineball once. most of my bigger bets have been fueled by alcohol...a good reason why i usually don't carry much $$.

The most I've loaded a barrel with is a C note. I don't need to gamble to make a living and I'm very confident with the amount of testosterone I have so I don't see the point of betting anything higher.

All of it. Every dime I had to my name.

It's not how many $ you bet, it's how many bullets you have.

Green stuff ... lol

$3,500 a set, multiple sets, using my money. My brother put me up for $10,000 match backing me, but the other guy backed out at the last minute.

I just started getting into gambling. I have played 10 a rack of 8 ball before but nothing more. I have played an APA rated 9 ball race for 25.

The most I have gambled on a single game is 10 bucks, but I have played races to 5 for 25 a couple times.

Like I said, Im just getting into the gambling part of the game and I am taking my time.

In Billiards $1200 in a race to 25 In pool $100 a game 8-ball on a bar table. Reg pool table $500 in first to 125 points straight pool is the most I remember. Now in Horse or Grehound racing I use to bet $1000's. Yep still got my house, wife, and Mustang. Barely. Johnnyt

Years back, I used to play $100 racks of 9 ball all the time, went for $1000 sets occasionally (went home with about $7000 one night)........ but now Im married and my wife only lets me have about $20 in my pocket..... A good game for me these days is $50 a rack, but I cant find the people who will play past 1 or 2 games like I used to.

My big "score" was from Keith, when he was a cocky, 17 yr old, and I was 21 (and had just picked up my very first custom cue...a Joss West). 1975...Keith had lost early in the tournament (Burlington, IA), but was beating EVERYONE in the green room at the hotel. He had a GIANT wad...had to be $20K. He offered the last 3 and the snap for $300/rack...which I thought was HUGE weight! I had two barrels in my pocket, and I stepped up and put a 6-pack on him in less than 15 minutes (I was literally in the right place at the right time). Funny thing is, as he racked each game, he was EXACTLY like he was in COM (slamming the rack on the table, throwing balls into the rack)... so I guess he wasn't really acting in the movie! LOL He hadn't paid at all, and I had people backing me up, in case he tried to split (not that he would), and after the 6th rack, he threw his cue on the table (ala FL in his videos), took out the huge wad of hundreds, and quickly counted off 18 on the rail...picked up his cue and stomped off! I grabbed the dough, and waved at him, saying "Thanks Keith"! LOL I don't think he really cared about the dough, as he had beaten player after player for serious cash, for a couple of days. This was a "World 9-Ball" tournament, where allegedly the 'promoter(s)' ran off with the cash. Cardone told me he was one of the promoters, and years later, he told me that wasn't the case...but the rumor remains. At any rate, I'm sure I'm one of only a few to really get over on Keith...and like I said, he had already won yards of cash! Would I take that bet against Earthquake today....NOT on your life! LOL  :D

So true...When someone that has tons of disposable cash bets $500 it does not really impress me...(other than the fact that the guy has tons of cash)

I "once" drove 150 miles with a guy that had $20 in his pocket so he could play $50 sets with a guy that at the time had a real good chance to win the set...

We came home with almost 1K that night......but it could have got real ugly....(I was sweatin the whole situation and I wasn't even playing)

I still have not completley decided if some people have "huge cahoneeeees" or are just gambling degenerets..

Drunk as a monkey with a pocket full of cash and a pretty girl flirting with me. I was down $300 playing races to 7 9 ball for a 100 a set. I said lets play a race to five for $500. I lost 5-0.:( I left with the girl though:p

I like to play sets for 25-100. Anything past that I get way out of my comfort zone. Now on the casino....well thats another story.:o

My bets

I usually bet $20 for a race to 5 nine ball. I have gone up to 100/sets and lost.

My one pocket is $10-20 a game.

Snooker is $0.25 - $0.50 / point.

I usually can do better on bigger tables and struggle gambling on bar boxes. Everyone seems to get out every time where they do not on bigger tighter tables.

I don't gamble for very much. I'm a recreational gambler, that's what I think is fun. I like $10 or $20 a game, or $50 - $100 set 9 ball mostly. I'll give weight but I won't take it.

The most I've ever played for was $50 a game 9 ball against a road player. I lost $250 in 3 hours. It's also the most I've ever lost. The most I've ever won in one match was $600, but that was playing by the point full rack snooker against a B player englishman when I was about 19 - I don't even play snooker but learned real quick and really outscored him.

Great story, Scott!

Even with that spot, Keith would be a tough nut. You did good.

Ray...That statement says it all, imo! I gave up gambling long ago, when I started teaching and touring nationally. I bet I hear this statement more than anything else..."How can you be a 'pro' and not gamble?" LOL My answer: "Because I don't HAVE to!" LOL MOST poolplayers who gamble heavily (I want to make it clear that I don't consider "social gambling", like Tate talks about, as really gambling), do so because they HAVE to. Either they are addicted to the action, or they're too lazy to get a real job...and sadly most of them are always broke! I am, fortunately, none of the above. LOL :D I gambled for a living for several years in the late 70's & early 80's. Never hustled, never dumped, never played on someone else's money. Made a very nice living...never had to sleep in my car, never had to eat McD's, because I couldn't afford a steak! :D I do believe that you don't have to gamble to become a great player...however, playing for money is one way to force yourself to perform at a peak level. On the flip side, so are tournaments. You can always play another game, if you have more money in your pocket. Lose twice and you're OUT, in a tournament. I have many friends here (like onepocketchump) who really enjoy gambling, and I say more power to them! But John gambles because he LIKES it, not because he has to, to make a living...and I'll bet dollars to donuts he NEVER gambles his mortgage or car payments! :D

I play 10 a game one hole even or if I'm in a game I "can't" win I'll play 5 a game for the instruction. 9 ball anything over 5 a set is called action. I've played a race to 7 loser buys chinese buffet several times:D . Played 5 a game for 10 hours once..neither one of us mentioned raising the bet..That turned out pretty good. My usual is race to 5 for 20. Will play for less not often more.

Thought that was a pretty 'punny' use of words there as a reply, lol. :D

As for me, I never have hustled but I have been 'asked' to play. No world-shattering sums, just a few hundred here and there. Never booked a loser over $20.

I remember playing one-pocket about 15 years ago with this old millionaire for $50 a game. We played even, but I got coaching as my spot. I won and he conveniently forgot to pay for the last game, but I collected several months later when I saw him at another tournament.

I also remember one year at BCA Nationals, a gal named Rebecca refused to stop playing me. I won over $200 playing $10/game 9 ball on the bar boxes. She was just so determined to keep playing, even after we had to go for quarters into the next room (about a 1/2 mile away!) because they had shut everything else down by then. Loser paid for the rack so she lost quite a bit by the end of the evening, just in quarters at 75 cents/game.
