Who do you think should be the non playing captain of the US Mtosconi Cup team. Should Nick Varner get a second chance this time on home soil.
How about Earl Strickland (fighting fire with fire).

Archer (or is he still to good enough to not be left out as a player).

Perhaps they could emulate Europe in 2007 when they appointed a non player,

Who could that be for USA. Joey A (send for the Marines) or Jay H (remember the Alamo).

Or let's split the country and call up Grady

Ol' School please...

I'd love to see the U.S. team get a little swagger back in this competition so my picks for captain would be:

Keith McCready, David Matlock, Buddy Hall, Grady Mathews or Billy Incardona

No offense intended to any of these outstanding players as all of them still play exceptional pool. I'd just like to see a little more of the ol' school characters back on center stage. I also think that any of these players could easily handle the weight, pressure and responsibilities that coaching this team will entail.

I'm sure whoever receives this honor will represent both our country and sport very well.

I voted for Joey Aguzin. I think he would be a fantastic Captain for Team USA, as would Jay Helfert.

Johnny Archer is needed as a player, and can't be NON playing captain.

Earl Strickland would be good for the show, but not for Team USA.

Nick Varner failed last year, and I doubt he has what is needed to get the fighting spirit into Team USA.

Grady Matthews would be fun to watch in such a role, but I don't think he would manage to work the players.

One person that should be added though, and most likely win the poll with a huge margin, would have to be Billy Incardona.

Good thread, Doug!

How about Jim Rempe?
In my opinion, he should be a hall of famer and was a great ambassador to the sport during his career.

Bucktooth !!

Bucktooth would be an interesting captain..the only problem would be he would shark his own team as well as the other...lol:thumbup:

I agree. And then, when the two teams are tied at the end of the competition, the two Captains can FIGHT to see who takes the cup !!

An interesting quote from the headline story on AZ's main page:

"With debate raging Stateside as to who should gain the coveted positions, Mosconi Cup promoters Matchroom Sport will be taking the democratic process to the American nation by allowing the final Mosconi Cup spot to be determined by public vote."

Will be interesting to hear how they do that.

Funny, that was the first name that popped into my head when I saw the question. I think he has the knowledge and temperment to be a great captain.

Keith.

It would make for a hell of a show. or give varner another chance. If he dont get it done this time then oh well, theres always next year.
