Mosconi Cup 2009 - first 3 Euro players selected

while im at it.

you know ive had issues with scott lee,harriman and earl.
in galveston i had a feeling come over me.
i said to myself im healthy and lucky to be alive and have the chance to make a living doing something i like and its fun.
so i told earl i was sorry and i want too start over with him and get along.
secondly ive been too hard on scott lee and danny harriman.
so too you guys i know we dont see eye to eye but im sorry about everything negative ive said about you guys. i say lets bury the hatchet and just go out and do our thing.
i know its entertaining when guys get into pissing matches on here but im going to do my best to see the good side of things . im just a poolplayer trying to make it like everybody else.
anyway im not saying all this to get showered with compliments saying im a good guy for apologizing.
i just feel better saying im sorry to any or all the people ive offended and want to start a clean slate and get along with everyone.
frankly some people are going to hate me and say bad things,but im going to do my best to look the other way.
i know my best buddy bill marop is that way and i look up to him .also hes told me many times too let things go its better to be nice to everybody.
scott lee and harriman will probably always dislike me but life is too short to sweat the small stuff. so danny and scott im sorry no hard feelings i hope,lets just try too start over.

Wouldn't last years MVP be automatically awarded a spot on the team? I mean, I'd bet everything I own that Mika will be on the team in due time, but it surprises me that it wasn't automatic.

Mika has got to take one of the spots that are left. I'd like to see NVB take the last spot with maybe Ortmann as non playing captain.

My pick for the USA team would be.
Archer, SVB, Schmidt, Moore & Morris

I am pretty sure that Mika will be on the team.

The last spot however, is a tough one, and is imo a fight between these players. I have ranked them in order, telling who is favourite to get the last spot, imo:

Thorsten Hohmann - paired with Ralf Souquet he finished runner-up in a Matchroom Sport event, World Cup of Pool. And he won the China Open this Summer. Ranked #10 on WPA, #7 on BCA.

Nick van den Berg - runner-up at a Matchroom Sport event, World Masters. Won the European 9-ball Championship in 2009. Ranked #13 on the Eurotour, #32 on WPA.

Marcus Chamat - ranked #3 on the Eurotour and # 6 on the WPA. Is having a good year in Europe, but he will probably need a GREAT result at the US Open to claim the last spot.

David Alcaide is ranked #7 on the Eurotour, and has won an Eurotour this year, plus I believe he also won the Predator 10-ball stop in Portugal 2 weeks ago.

Imran Majid has also had a decent year in Europe, with two runner-up finishes at the Eurotour, but I can't really believe that he will be picked over any of the players I mentioned above.

Tony Drago was the reason Team Europe won last time the Mosconi Cup was played in Las Vegas, but he has had an "off"-year, with two 9th and one 3rd as best results on the Eurotour so far. He didn't play the event in Weert, probably because of a conflict with a snooker event. He hasn't played many US Open's so far, and most likely he will not play this year either.

After the conclusion of the US Open, we will know for sure. The Mosconi Cup is without doubt the most exciting event each year, imo :)

IF Hohmann and Immonen will be the players to complete the team, then Team Europe will consist of 5 of the top 6 players on the AZBilliards "money" list. Shane Van Boening, #3, is the non-European at the top 6 of that list.

It's a whole new day! Good for you John. Whether you realize it or not, Bill was giving you great advice. Negativity only pulls you down. I'm glad to see you say something positive about playing pool for a living. I know it's not an easy way to go but you are in an elite class of players who has a chance to make a decent living from the game. Now, just stay off the Motocross bikes and maybe things will work out. It's pretty hard to play pool with one arm in a sling. :eek:

"Hoping" for that team when it's already been announced that Darren Appleton is in the team is a bit pointless, unless you're hoping Daz takes up motocross bike riding between now and the event :smile:

rodney, shane, Schmidt should be the core members
then hillbilly, Archer, Jeremy, maybe Dennis.

But no more Earl the Pearl please. He is entertaining to watch for his meltdowns but not when you want the team to win.

The Euros are well groomed, well cut, all business.

The US is fast and loose, stroke and push.

It is my humble opinion that Earl started to lose his mind and do all those crazy antics that he does, after he started playing in the Mosconi Cup and having to deal with all the European fans.

He wasn't able to cope with the way fans interact in team events over there in Europe, and they got under his skin. Since then every little thing sets him off.

There are quite a few players that could make up a strong US line-up. We'll just have to see who the official team is and try to determine what are chances are at victory. In a short race to 5, anything can happen. With players this good, it could all be determined by who wins the lag!!

I just hope that sportsmanship prevails and there's no drama during the cup.

Either way good luck to both teams!

they already set odds that you would be the first to be negative and try to start trouble.
im only going to reply to positive people and from what i can tell you are not in that category when it comes to me.

p.s. ive givin away shafts,dvds,clinics, lessons,and money .so if i dont bother with tips on here im sorry.also will donate 10 percent of mc winnings if picked by vote.

ive played 3 tar matches that someone could watch for 10 dollars and learn plenty.
i would venture to say ive helped people on here some. anyway take care and try to say something nice once in a while .

Pound for pound line up:

Archer for Souquet- These two have been around the game forever. If anyone can deal with souquet it would be JA's experience.

Hatch for Appleton-Appleton likes to gamble, that's pretty solid. Hatch is a pretty seasoned gambler. I like this match up.

Now here's my opinion of where it may be lopsided. The match up I just mentioned seems about right, give and take a little edge here and there and it will be about even. I don't know exactly how appleton plays, he may be a sleeper for all I know, but hatch just beat him in a long race.
Neils and Thorsten, for Shannon. I think Shannon's game is cleaner. He took down Dirty city titles like they were peaches, you can't do that unless you have a really clean package. Smidtty and Hillbilly? I'm not sure who But one of them.

Out of everyone, I would like Daulton's addition for the third spot.

Team captain- Mccready is a good choice. I'm sure he knows the right thing to say in all the spots.....except when the the europeans get a little too excited. The best man for that would be Earl! I can see him pulling up his pants bellybutton high with his fingers pointed in the air. This is a really crucial spot though, maybe its better to keep the veteran nick varner.

I really like this line up and the reasoning behind it...
Probably the only changes I would make would be...

John Schmidt because I think he would match up well against Neils Feijen

And lastly...while I'd like to pick Corey for the last spot...I just don't think his heart is in it...I think he's more interested in golf right now...it's to bad too, because when he's playing well and is focused he can beat anybody in the world...

So...call me crazy...but I'm going with either Bartram or Gabe Owen...
My reasoning is this...Bartram has obviously stepped it up a notch here in the last year or so, and you know for a fact that he's not going to give up and will grind it out even if he's playing bad. And I think he might be able to handle the pressure with little impact on his game! That counts for a lot in this kind of event.

I would also consider Gabe for the event because I think he would match up well with Thorsten...I seem to recall him drilling Thorsten in the US Open a couple of years back so we know he's got it in him.

If we put this team together...team Europe definitely doesn't have to like it...in fact I'd call it about a coin flip. Either way it should make for one heck of a match!

I think we the viewership are actually going to get to vote for at least one of the players this year. But I think the last two are picked by Matchroom Sports...and unfortunately I think they're more interested in picking players for the drama aspect than for their actual current competitive ability. :(

1. The No.1 ranked player on the BCA Points List at the conclusion of the US Open on 25th October.
2. The No.2 ranked player on the BCA Points List at the conclusion of the US Open on 25th October.
3. Any player
4. Any player
5. The winner of a 'Mosconi Cup Idol' public vote.

Players 1 & 2 will be announced at the close of the US Open, while players 3 & 4 will be announced in September. Players 3 & 4 will be selected by Matchroom Sport.

Since Team USA's comprehensive defeats in '07 and '08, there has plenty of spirited debate as to who should play in order to help turn the tide for Team USA.

On that basis, Matchroom Sport will be using a public vote to select the final member of the American team. Taking place on www.matchroompool.com , a short list will be compiled and will then be thrown open to a public vote!

Further details of this will follow.


Matchroom is said to be making their two American picks by the end of this month. Any day now!!! Then, after the US Open, the 2 Americans get automatic offers according to the BCA point standings. The last American soldier will be chosen after the US Open I believe, by a voting process yet undisclosed.

I thought it was a nice post. I said that it will be good having you here not fighting with everyone and maybe chipping in some help or pointers. I joked about what will happen when DH reads this. I am guessing a few are waiting for his reply.
