Not sure if this was meant as a joke, but I'd love to see Keith McCready on the team in some capacity, interacting with the crowd.

I like your team better than any of the others, as I think Dennis Hatch is all in all the best American player right now. I may have to cut SVB, and replace him with Johnny Archer.

I think the SVB of last year, and the SVB of this year, haven't been the same at all. He's not dripping confidence anymore, and it shows in his play.

Johnny hasn't shown his usual brilliance the past two Cups, but he is always a threat to beat anyone in the world.

I like Dennis Hatch's game. He is deadly on a field of green and has the capability to beat anybody on the face of the earth, as long as his emotions are in check. Like me, Dennis tends to wear his emotions on his sleeve sometimes. God forbid he gets in an argument with his other half while in competition!

It looks like the majority of voters like John Schmidt and Corey Deuel so far. Good choices.

This poll was a great idea to see what the pool public thinks. After all, they are the ones who see these players up front and close on a repetitive basis.

Years ago, B.J. Ussery was hitting 'em strong, but I do not hear his name anymore. Like Michael Coltrain, a strong player that he was, it seems as if he's left the sport. B.J. held down a 9-to-5 job while playing competitively, and he used to help others less fortunate than himself learn the game by teaching them, as well as giving them rides to tournaments. I always liked B.J. :)

I think I like: Dennis Hatch, Jason Kirkwood, John Schmidt, Corey Deuel, and Shane Van Boening!

Perhaps Europe should send their Reserve Team over for a couple of years to give the USA a chance to regroup.
Daryl Peach, Darren Appleton, Nick vd Berg, Imran Majid and Thomas Engert.

Or maybe just a British team with Majid, Appleton, Peach plus Karl Boyes and Mark Gray.

I'd like to see them against SVB, Steve Moore, Charlie Bryant, John Schmidt and Tony Crosby!!!

or Dennis Hatch, Jason Kirkwood, Donnie Mills, Corey Deuel and Tony Watson.

They all have more fire in their belly than your existing squad.

But they would have no chance against Mika, Ralf, Niels, Tony and Mark.

Sure, as long as they break 'em like a man and not utilize the bird break to succeed.

Bring 'em on. They will leave town with empty pockets.

Hmm, there's a couple selections there that I am not sure of.

Time will tell. Maybe Team USA would have a chance if we could bring our BEST players to compete against those who Matchroom Sports deems as Europe's best!

Matchroom have realised the need to inject new life into the lacklustre US team. So keep your suggestions coming, it could make a difference when the 2009 Mosconi Cup comes to your shores next year.

After all, they want players that the public can identify with as this makes good TV ratings

I just love the way that Jen gets all jingoistic.

It's like tickling trout.

But ILY Jen

I voted for Corey Deuel and John Schmidt. I like both those two, and think they would do good on Team USA.

Unfortunately I don't know much about players from the US, apart from what I read on here or have seen during tournaments I have attended.

Shane Van Boening have to be on the team. If he is on a team that really wants to win, and supports eachother, Shane will be very dangerous.

The last 2 spots are hard to say. I enjoy watching Rodney Morris play, and others here has said that he is great for the team and competition, always in good mood etc. I think he is a good team-player, so I would liked to see him next year too.

Obviously I like Earl in this competition, but is he the best choice for Team USA? He might be winning matches, and it is truly fun to watch him no matter what. He either plays beautiful, or cracks me up with the things he do, so good show anyway. But I think I would prefer having another player in it, for the team spirit.

I think Johnny Archer still has a couple of fights in him, and either he or Gabe Owen would be strong in this competition.

Someone suggested Earl as non-playing Captain, and I kind of like that idea. Oliver Ortmann was non-playing Captain for Team Europe a couple of years back, and he was definitely not over-the-hill as a poolplayer. But someone should assist Earl, if he was Captain, and I think Billy Incardona would be a superb choice.

Billy and Earl as Coach and Captain, and Johnny, Shane, Corey, John and Rodney would make a hard team to beat.

If USA teamed up with this I would like to see Team Europe consist of:

Alex Lely as Captain, Ralf, Mika, Niels, Darren, with the last spot going to either Tony Drago or Thorsten Hohmann. I would love to see Thorsten Hohmann back in this competition, but it's hard to wave goodbye to Tony. Have to flip a coin for that one :D

i'd go with svb,morris,deuel,hatch,nevel......still think they will have a hard time matching up with europe at the moment as there is so many talented players imo

I know I'm leaving the subject matter, but here's an AzBilliards Christmas poem we've been working on in the NPR section. It's kind of pool-related, I guess!

Twas the night before Christmas, I logged in the forum.
Members were missing, and I wanted a quorum.
I felt really dumb opening a new browser
Looking up "quorum," instead of pills to arouse her.

Up came an idea, as I sprang from my chair.
ESPN was on, and I wanted Efren on there.
When, what to my wandering eyes should appear,
Twas Jay Helfert and JoeyA, both getting in gear.

There was Toupee, so lively and quick.
With Fatboy and his satchel of C-notes so thick
Not a creature was stirring, not even the cops.
As JoeyA walked in, licking his chops.

Birds flocked to the rails, filling the chairs
making side action, on the outcome there.
While LWW and Hondo nestled snug in their beds,
With visions of NPR threads dancing in their heads.

I reached for my mouse, to see what was the matter.
When I gave it a click, I read some strong chatter.
Plain as day and in black and white
BJ, Sev, and Drew were going to fight.

All of a sudden, there came a great crash
It was only Purdman and Punter takin' out the trash.
Out I went for a walk in the night
When I came upon a very strange sight.

With a red suit and boots that came up to his knees,
OMG, he looked just like our Smorgie!
There was Team Europe, all dressed in their best.
complete with supporters like Roy and the rest.

Packed with their presents for all goodness sakes.
Mugs full of Guiness and some Varney Jump Breaks.
Then what to my wandering mind soon appeared?
Team USA in a sled with 10 reindeer.

Johnny, Shane, Jeremy, Rodney, and Earl
were each taking turns giving Smorgie a whirl.
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry,
Making all those break 'n runs made him feel merry.

Then pulling out his cell from a sleigh of plenty,
He proceeded to place a call to Trooper 420.
"Got to get out of here quick, so I need a clear path",
"If you're not too busy could you help me do the math?"

So off he went into that dark, dark night,
With Manwon and Gunn-Slinger by him, he knew he'd be all right.
You see he had lots of beautiful cues to deliver,
To people like Cocobolo Cowboy, Asiasdad and akaTrigger.

Matchroom Sports brings us the Mosconi Cup
And Team USA will always chalk up
Could they bring the message that's written above
And tell us, most of all, it is pool that we all love?

I added the last one for you, Doug! To be continued in NPR...

Have a BRILL holiday and don't get too CRABBY or start CARPING. Dont sit there getting broad of BREAM. Get up and dance the CONGER or the HOKI Cokey or sing a chorus of MULLET of Kintyre.

It was Christmas Day in the workhouse
Outside twas the 4th of July
The scene was set on purpose
To make a grown man cry.

The Pearl was doing the verbals
While Nick, he cringed in fear
Cause somebody just told him
"Earl's in the team next year"

"That can't be so" he whispered
"We need some younger blood
To counteract those Euros
Who're making our name Mud"

"We need to find a hero
Who'll make our men more greedy
I've got it - all we need to do
Is to call for Keith McCready"

But Keith he said "I cannot come.
I want to play more poker"
But Jen gets Old Glory out
(It's easy to provoke her)

She said your country needs you now
Mosconi Cup is calling
Get out that cue and hit some balls
This is no time for stalling

And so it finally came to pass
That Keith picked up the meaning
And USA they won the cup

.... Oh no! They're only dreaming

But along came Santa who took reigns of his hitch,
He called out to Keith, who said, "This night's been a *****!"
It was hill-hill at Mosconi Cup. Europeans kept on screaming.
But when Earl pocketed the winning ball, Team USA was now beaming! :D
