Why is it that certain players are automatics and other players have to actually earn a spot on the roster? Why the double standard?

i wish i could pick the team. i know i could pick 5 guys who play great and like each other. thats a big factor team chemistry.

i have little chance of making the team because every year when i get invited to the world championships i decline because of the travel and small money etc.
these same people are the ones who put on the mosconi cup .they are not going to invite me ever.

its a shame because we are losing the cup because of earls bad play, antics ,and the way he ruins the chemistry of team.

if i do get picked i will practice for a week straight and be ready to rep the usa .

they also pick johnny, earl and rodney every year no matter what so only 2 spots are available. my team would be johnny, rodney, gabe, corey and me.

we all golf togetrher and like each other. their would be chemistry. we might lose, we might win but we would all have fun and get along which is something that never happens with earl on the team.

Good post John.

I have 2 interesting comments...

One long standing MC player said "99% chance Earl won't get chosen this year."

Earl told me "They'd be fools not to choose me." "Sky demands I get picked, without me, there's no ratings."

Hmmmmmmmm...

Well John, that makes a good point as well. Now that I think about it a little more, having Stevie and Corey on the same team might not be such a good idea after all. I don't know personally how well they get along, but I've seen them get pretty hot towards one another at a tournament. They were arguing about the way Corey racks and breaks....

Two years ago in Vegas I watched more than one player being frustrated with Corey. He just seemed to be going through the motions.

I really wish this event would get the respect and attention it deserves. The Euro's media and people respect it much more than our own.

I will be going back again this year and am going to try and bring 20-40 pool fans with me. I am hoping for a USA win.

It should be a blast. Very fun event to go to LIVE.

After rethinking it might be time to give some others a chance.

Shane
Morris
Archer
Schmidt
Hatch

We would SMASH them!

My team would be

Shane VanBoening
John Schmidt
Earl Strickland
Shannon Daulton
Corey Deuel

I know that many will balk at Earl's inclusion, but he is THE Earl!

My captain would be Mike Sigel.

On a million to one shot....no, make that a billion to one shot, how great would it be if we could have an "All-Time Mosconi Cup Team"?

We could field these champions ALL IN THEIR PRIME.....Strickland, Sigel,
Buddy Hall, Nick Varner & Johnny Archer.

Throw the all time top 5 Europeans against THAT line up!

Scott, you nailed it right on the head. I've known Shane for quite a while now, to tell you the truth I can't believe pool hasn't even come close to ruining him. He has seen and been through an amazing amount of the pool world for a man his age. I've seen posts about players doing acid, crack, coke, weed, booze, etc... How many players would we have in big tournaments if there was drug testing in pool? That's what keeps parents unhappy about sending their kids to pool halls. Clean up the sport and keep it going. Pool is a great game....

Stevie and Johnny

Just wanted to add that these two, who are on my Mosconi Cup team list, Went 1st and 2nd in a real tough field. Johnny is the model of consistency, and Stevie continues to play top level 10ball... Keep it up Gents, we'll see you in the Mosconi Cup in No TIME!

Find a way to win as a team.

The problem with selecting the best players for the USA Mosconi Cup Team is that there are dozens of players that could be competitive enough to bring home a win. Chemistry while very important is not the only thing to consider.

Oh look...more picks...

What the heck...everybody has thrown in their 2 cents, I might as well too...

1. SVB (Hard to leave out the hottest up and coming player in the US right now)

2. Archer (The guy held the top spot in the world a couple of weeks ago, how do you pass him by?)

3. Corey (If he's interested and his hearts in it, he's got as much talent and skill as anyone in the world, and probably more so when it comes to reading a 9-ball rack)

4. Schmidt (He's proven he can beat the best in the world, and the fact that he's interested enough to post on this thread show's his heart would be in it and he'd fight like hell to win...gotta love that in any team player)

5. Hatch or Morris (This is a tough call, Hatch is playing phenomenal lately, so you can't count him out...and Rodney is always a danger to run over anybody and his easy going nature could always be a boost if the US gets behind. I might have to flip a coin on this one.)

Alternate options:
Stevie Moore (His game speaks for itself)

Danny Harriman (His game also speaks for itself, although I'm not sure about the team chemistry with Schmidt being on it as well)

Justin Bergman (He shoots as straight as anybody, and as somebody mentioned earlier why not bring in some of the younger up and comers and see what happens...they're at least hungry to win)

That is some AWESOME news. This forum will REALLY heat up now. :D:D:D

I'm going to start working on my list today. :D

I think Matchroom Sports continues to make the Mosconi Cup one of the most talked about events of the billiard year.

I can't wait to see how they are going to do this but have to imagine that they will have an online entry on their website where they will collect some basic information from the voters.

Will this only apply to the American Team?

Matchroom Sports has opened up Pandora's box. The American fans will provide a consensus of opinion that will make up the BEST U.S. MOSCONI CUP TEAM ever!

This is EXTREMELY EXCITING NEWS!

Should I start my lobby right now?

Thanks,
JoeyA

I haven't asked Matchroom, yet, but I am 99,9 % certain that the European team will be picked by Matchroom based on the "deal" they have with EPBF

1 player wildcard chosen by Matchroom (My guess, Immonen)
# 1 on the Eurotour-ranking (Souquet)
3 players within top 16 on the Eurotour-ranking. (Appleton, Feijen and most likely Tony Drago)

yeah, that's from Matchroom press release:

With debate raging Stateside as to who should gain the coveted positions, Mosconi Cup promoters Matchroom Sport will be taking the democratic process to the American nation by allowing the final Mosconi Cup spot to be determined by public vote.

Hopefully they consider the results of this particular poll. Or will they make another one on their internet site? Who knows, until then - start voting people! It really makes sense now.

...oops, I've just noticed the poll is closed. ??? Ah, never mind, there should be another one, with all the names of US pros on it, Landon Shuffet included.

Let's just wait for the real thing.

But it will be interesting to see how the voters have changed from Archer - Van Boening - Deuel - Morris and Hatch
