Mosconi Cup 2010 Named This Week

All
Just had an email from Matchroom, the fianl European player will be named today (in the next hour) and the US Team Friday.

Thanks for posting this! Looking at the BCA points list, the order is Johnny, Rodney, Corey and then Shane. So Johnny - who's already been publicly stated as in, will be joined by Rodney. Dennis is in as last years MVP.

So that's 3. What happens from here? A Matchroom pick and an internet vote pick? The selection process seems like a better guarded secret than how to make a nuke...

You are right it's a closelu guarded secret I cannot get confirmation on selection process. My guess would be that Johnny and Dennis who are confirmed will be joined by Rodney, Corey and SVB. If I had to bet on it, I would say No Internet Vote this year, but thats only my opinion.

Nick Van den Berg just named as 5th player for Europe, joining Darren Appleton, Karl Boyes, Ralf Souquet and Mika Immonen.

If the US team is actually Archer, Morris, SVB, Deuel, and Hatch i see the US comming out on top again. Thats one stacked line up.

Johnny A
Dennis H
Rodney M
SVB
Corey D
This should be it.

I agree, this should be it. But it's premature for anyone to think the last two on your list are a lock. But maybe they are???

Not only are they the next 2 on the BCA points list, they're both playing great, both have Cup experience and both bring name recognition that will surely please Matchroom's sponsors.

If not Shane and Corey, who might be a feasible choice to get invited? The next Americans on the points list are Charlie Williams, then Mike DeChaine, and then John Schmidt. John has the most star power of these 3 IMO, but he's sitting on about half the points that Shane and Corey are on. As much as I enjoy John's play, that wouldn't seem quite fair. (Actually, Charlie may have more star power. I'm not sure how the Asian market responds to him.)

It's got to be Corey and Shane, right?

Charlie Williams is more American than Asian. In terms of market share...people see him now a days as tournament promoter rather than pool player.

Yes I believe it must be Corey and SVB, Corey is third in the rankings and US Open Runner Up, could anyone ever imagine Matchroom leaving out SVB, I don't believe so. Charlie has several points against him, he'd have to pay excess baggage for that briefcase and they'd have to search it every time he came into the York Hall arena. I believe it has now been sugically attached to him, nobody ever see's him without it these days

Nick is captian and the players really like him, Nick knows how to be a captain and has everyones respect. He was a huge factor in last years win-believe me I was there the whole time watching Nick work, and it was work. So with Nick and the guys mentioned in the previous posts, I like our chances. JA has told me its harder to play at the Hall in London than any American venue he has played at so we cant take it for granted that its a easy win. Ralf, Darren are triple tough players. It will be fun for sure.

You are absolutely right, Johnny told me that too and the one previous time I have been I can agree 100% with that. There is no other venue like it and no other fan base to rival those at the York Hall. It's going to be very difficult to retain the Cup but there appear to be quite a few people going over and we will need to be loud and proud to make the guys aware of the support they have.

I remember that few years ago our MARINE CORE matched the Rowdy/Hooligan Brits at the York Hall.We may need to mobilize our Marines for this year also.May be some one can inform our military bases in UK about the dates of the Mosconi cup.

Vagabond that is a great idea man, I will try and make a couple of calls today and see if I can get an address or phone # from a couple of friends and see what I can do. But also I am an ex 'Rowdy Brit' now a US Citizen and will be putting that to good use there this year, in the best possible way of course.

If these are in fact the teams (we already know the European squad) it will be a great Mosconi Cup this year. There haven't been many years with two such strong teams. All these players are on top of their game now, at the peak of their careers. I just hope Dennis can make it. He was the heart and soul of Team America last year.

I also like an American side of Johnny, Shane, Rodney, Corey and Dennis. Now that's a team! Against Ralf, Mika, Karl, Darren and Nick it's one great match-up. It will all come down to who plays best under the pressure of the Mosconi Cup.
