So they just announced ticket sales for the 2010 Mosconi Cup in London, England. (http://www.onthebreaknews.com/?p=2701)

The dates are Thursday, December 9th, to Sunday 12th. I am looking into going this year because I will be in Europe so I am pretty excited.

Who do you think will be on both the European and American teams this year?

Is it too early to tell? I know it's bit early to have this discussion, but I am already anxious to hear who will be on the teams and who I might get to see play.

Karl Boyes has to be a lock for the European team? SVB definitely for the Americans, but who else do you think will be in the historic York Hall this year?

Your thoughts and opinions please!

Ben!

If as in previous years Dennis Hatch would be a lock for the US team as MVP last year he would get a spot. I would think the US team would also include, SVB, Johnny Archer, Rodney Morris, the rest are up in the air there will again be a fan vote I guess by Matchroom, so that is anyones. The guys in contention I suppose would be Corey Duel, Charlie Williams, Mike Dechaine looking at the BCA Rankings which I believe Matchroom look at too. But Matchroom also look at who will be the big draws

Europe Darren Appleton, Mika Immonen, Karl Boyes, Ralf Souquet then it gets tougher to predict.

What I would say is if you want to go, get in now for your tickets York Hall is a very small venue and doesn't hold many people at all. We got ours the day after they announced, PM me if you are going, a few others from here were thinking about it and a couple are definately going, lets get together for a beer somewhere.

Tickets are avialble only through www.seetickets.com I believe.

johnnyt you are correct, but if my memory serves me right (and thats a big if) last year the US open did not get included, but Turning Stone did, which I thought was strange. Maybe those selected couldn't be caught whatever the result at the Open last year?

Whoever plays it will be a really intimidating atmosphere for us over there it's a really small venue with people almost sitting on top of the tables! We need a team with at least one or two who have experienced this venue previously, it truly is like no other. The team could use all the support they can get so if you are thinking about going don't wait too long to get your tickets.

I'm sure it will be a great experience and the match will be awesome as it always is.

I must be getting older. I'm not too thrilled with the accomodations over there close to the venue. Read a bit about the neighborhood not being the best. I suppose its only a few hundred yards from the tube, which means that you could really stay just about anywhere. I haven't decided yet, but it looks like by the time I decide, it will be too late. One thing is for sure. It will be a rockin time.

You are partially correct, it used to be really 'dodgy' although a bit of re development has gone on throughout the area and it's better now. I believe there is only one of what were dozens of seedy strip clubs etc a few years ago. The Olympics going to London has really helped too. I did a previous post on this (see below) which gives some information on hotels and restaurants in the area. You will also see I had an email from the events manager at the York Hall saying the area is much better. But I guess it's like any major city anywhere in the world, you just need to watch what you are doing and when. I would guess it's not a good idea to be parading around at 2 in the morning wearing a Pink Tutu and Fishnets, guess I need to go shopping before we leave then :D

We are staying at the Town Hall appartments and Hotel which is right across the street from the York Hall. It's not cheap, well for London I guess it is, but we got it for about $163 a night and used Expedia to book that was the cheapest I could find. This hotel only opened in Feb 2010 and I believe they are doing special rates to attract customers at the moment. I hear it will be double or treble that once they are more established.

If anyone needs any more information on Hotels or anything else, let me know and I will see what else I can find out for you.

As for crime I have spoken with several people (e-mail and phone) and like any large Capital City, London has it's problems, but everyone I have been in contact with seems to think this part is on the up. I even went as far as looking through local Police reports. This part, Bethnal Green North, is I think brought down in peoples estimation somewhat because it is part of the wider London Borough of Tower Hamlets. When you deleve a bit deeper into those crime stats the majority of offences are by young people and on the larger housing estates . In this Ward of Bethnal Green North of the 11.4% crime rate 9.8% was Anti Social Behavior. As I understand it an ASBO (anti social behavior order) is something that is a civil order for minor offences where a prosecution would not normally warrant prosecution.

The result would seem to be, as with anywhere, watch what you are doing and when, take the usual precautions you would anywhere else in the world. Just go support our team and have a great time.

RELAX all you Septics. London and particularly the East End is fine. Just take normal precautions like - don't flash the cash, don't tempt fate and you will be OK. You might want to pay a visit to Mile End Snooker Club - it is a bit of a misnomer as it is full of 9 foot pool tables. But there are useful players based there.

Whoa there, hold your horses big guy! ;)

It's WAY too early to know who's going to be the 3 BCA points leaders that get them an automatic invite. Although Archer, Morris, SVB and Deuel (respectively) top the points list today, there's a lot of points yet to be had, and just as many to be dropped off (ex. points earned from the '09 Open are dropped off IIRC).

FYI, if Matchroom Sports keeps the US selection process the same as last year (when they changed the criteria fairly late in the year), then selection goes as follows:

- top 3 BCA point leaders AFTER the US Open
- Matchroom picks one player
- the world votes online for the last pick - the process begins sometime after the US Open (that's when the AZ posts by pro's increase 10 fold )

I know how it works big guy

Those were just my opinions for the teams to come. Im only suggesting myself for the Matchroom voters list. Just trying to help my chances for getting in the Poll by replying to black balled about myself :D Thanks!

Best of luck Brandon. It's great to have you posting here.

Oh BTW, IIRC, the list of players for the popular vote is the next 8 guys on the BCA points list. My advice to you is to go to the BCA Points Store and buy ya a cart load. ;)

I vote for Brandon Shuff, Virginia State Champion, to be the wildcard Mosconi Cup representative for USA.

USA, all the way, with Brandon Shuff!

Yeah but... And with absolutely no disrespect to Brandon... Assuming Hatch isn't top 3 in BCA points, and he finds his way onto the voting list, how don't we try to vote him in again? That dude buried the hatchet right in the Euro hearts! In fact, he's the first guy ever to shoot over a 1000 Accustat rating! ;)

I am not sure Shuff would even be in the vote, last year the popular vote came down to who the public chose from the next 6 or 8 from the BCA Rankings List. From the rankings I see, even if he won Turning Stone and and everyone else went out in the first round he couldn't accumulate enough points to even be in contention for a place. Not sure if the US Open counts this year, I don't believe it did last, but stand to be corrected, Shuff would have to win that too. Thats a tall task for anyone doesn't matter how good anyones playing thats tough. From what I see the top 4 in the rankings with adj totals at the moment are:

Johnny Archer 446.5
Rodney Morris 418.1
SVB 354.0
Coery Duell 318.5

I think the 11th ranked US player is Kim Davenport with 201.5

Shuff has a total of 45.0

The US Open does count and is the last tourney to acquire points.
